Love Triangles existed before they became a staple part of cinema. Whether it is Gone with the Wind or the Twilight saga, the classic trope has been a fan favorite, before Zendaya’s Challengers came around and made the trope even more pristine, to some extent at least.
Star Wars’ Luke and Leia in a still from the Star Wars franchise
While some might call it toxic, others outrageous, that is the turn that George Lucas’ Star Wars nearly took before Lucas went on to change it. If you remember the incest kiss between Luke and Leia and the horror that every fan faced after it was revealed they were siblings, it would be shocking yet somewhat calming to know that the duo weren’t supposed to be siblings originally.

Kathleen Kennedy has been regarded as one of the most hated people to be a part of the Star Wars franchise. Working as the president of Lucasfilm, it is as though every failure the franchise faces has been put on her back. Regardless of who is responsible for a project’s unfortunate performance, she is subjected to the brunt of the criticism from fans and critics alike.

Despite all of the hate that she gets, there is absolutely no doubt that she is good at what she does. Having started as a producer, she worked on an impressive number of highly successful projects, ultimately joining George Lucas’ side as co-chairman of Lucasfilm until she became president. Their dynamic took them to many places, making the Mark Hamill franchise as successful as it is today.

Steven Spielberg and George Lucas are the two prominent Hollywood names that stand out above the rest. Having said that, with their inventive storytelling and huge hits, they have collectively transformed the movie business. Indeed, these visionaries have a profound impact on the cinematic universe, but when it comes to handling their beloved creations post-release, their paths diverge like a fork in the Yellow Brick Road.

While both directors have created some of history’s most iconic flicks, Spielberg and Lucas take very different approaches when it comes to revisiting their earlier work. The former feels that his films should remain true to the era in which they were made, unlike Lucas, who is renowned for updating and improving his works digitally.

The famous twist at the end of Irvin Kershner's 1980 sci-fi epic "The Empire Strikes Back" — that the evil Darth Vader (James Earl Jones/David Prowse) was actually the father of the heroic Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) — was shocking enough to send seismic ripples through the future of pop culture. Young prospective filmmakers reared in 1980 were so shocked by the famed "Empire" revelation that the "hero was secretly related to the villain this whole time" twist would eventually become a common screenwriting trope.
As many Starwoids will be able to tell you, the "I am your father" twist famously contradicts dialogue from George Lucas' "Star Wars" from three years earlier. In that film, the trustworthy Obi-Wan Kenobi (Alec Guinness) revealed that he was friends with Luke's father, who was, by Obi-Wan's own description, definitely not Darth Vader. Indeed, Darth Vader was said to have murdered Luke's father. So when...

Who says rules are always meant to be followed? As any die-hard Star Wars fan knows, George Lucas had strict guidelines for the colors of lightsabers in the iconic sci-fi franchise. Jedi was typically assigned blue or green lightsabers, while Sith was given red lightsabers.
However, Samuel L. Jackson, 75, who took on the role of Mace Windu in the prequel trilogy, chose to throw those rules out the window. For the unversed, Mace Windu is portrayed as a Jedi Master who serves on the High Council in the last years of the Galactic Republic in the Star Wars universe.

In a bold decision that enraptured fans and impressed Jackson himself, the actor requested a purple lightsaber for his character. This move not only broke Lucas’ long-standing rule but also introduced a new and aesthetically striking dimension to the Star Wars universe.

The three trilogies that have been collectively called the Skywalker Saga are considered to be at the center of the Star Wars IP. All the material, be it anthology films or streaming shows, is placed in the timeline directly in relation to the events of the films.
Star War: The Empire Strikes Back
From the fall of Anakin Skywalker to the rise of the New Jedi Order with Rey Palpatine, all have been covered over the course of nine films. However, Geroge Lucas’s original plan for the core Star Wars saga was quite different compared to what we got as the final product. To begin with, the director had a 12-film saga in mind, instead of 9.

While Steven Spielberg had already done 15 short films by the time he was 18, George Lucas’ Thx 1138, which was screened at the University of California, blew his filmography out of the water. Although Spielberg was left a little envious of the Star Wars director’s work, it didn’t take them long to see eye to eye, eventually developing a decades-long friendship,

Sometimes it’s hard to remember the days before Star Wars. Nowadays everybody knows about the Jedi and the Sith, and Han Solo and C-3Po. Even if you have no interest in the movies, you know who Darth Vader is and you know that he’s Luke’s father. The Star Wars universe is entrenched in the zeitgeist and it’s not going away any time soon.
There was, of course, a time when none of that was true. In 1977 A New Hope came out (not even affixed with the “Star Wars” part of the title yet), and an incredible amount of world-building took place. It’s impressive, actually, that for a movie that was intended to be a stand-alone it hasn’t been completely re-written by the sprawling Star Wars universe.
Having said that, there have been a few retcons to A New Hope, mostly for the better.

With The Acolyte expected to drastically alter the beloved franchise by departing from George Lucas’ original vision, fans of the film series have all the reason to be giddy with anticipation. The upcoming series will differ from all previous Star Wars stories, according to the showrunner, Leslye Headland. She also revealed that it will stray from one of Lucas’ central ideas regarding the ‘Force’.
A great deal of the Force’s mystery was maintained throughout the original Star Wars trilogy. Even so, a lot more is now understood about it than in the past, particularly with the introduction of midi-chlorians in The Phantom Menace. However, the idea offended some fans because they feel it takes away the Force’s mystical quality.

One of the best and most devastating moments in "Star Wars" is Order 66 in "Revenge of the Sith." To close out the Clone Wars, the clone troopers that have fought beside the Jedi turn and shoot their commanders in the back, on orders from Chancellor Palpatine/Darth Sidious.
The most memorable death is Jedi Aayla Secura on the jungle planet Felucia, shot in the back by Clone Commander Bly and his brothers-in-arms. In one draft of the script (but not the finished film), Aayla is scouting for enemy droids and asking Bly for his input before he shoots, emphasizing her being taken by surprise. The Felucia scene would also feature Bly and the clones fragging Jedi Barriss Offee, but this was deleted, so the "Clone Wars" and "Tales of the Jedi" cartoons took that character in another direction.

With Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame being such box office successes, many fans assumed that the Russo Brothers (Anthony and Joe Russo) would return to direct Avengers: Secret Wars. But in the years that followed, a lot changed.
During that period, the Russo Brothers helmed a few flicks through their Agbo company. Among them are the crime drama Cherry, starring Tom Holland and Ciara Bravo, and the action thriller The Gray Man, featuring Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans.

George Lucas captured the imagination of millions when he debuted the first Star Wars film back in 1977. The film introduced viewers to the otherworldly power of The Force, which has become an integral part of the franchise as it has continued to expand over the years. While The Force has etched itself into the modern pop culture lexicon, it originally had a much different name.

In his initial drafts for the first film in the Star Wars franchise, Lucas had opted for a much longer name for the mystical power source the Jedi harness to bring peace to a galaxy far far away. However, the name was considerably less effective and might make some fans of the franchise scoff at its unpleasant sound. Here is what George Lucas originally planned to call The Force.

George Lucas’ Star Wars franchise has been popular for well over four decades and continues to enjoy plenty of fanfare. After completing the original trilogy of films, Lucas returned to the franchise for the prequels, which explore Anakin Skywalker’s fall to the dark side and transformation into the nefarious Darth Vader.

However, for Vader’s backstory to work, Lucas had to kill off a fan-favorite character in the final installment of the prequels. Nonetheless, Lucas’ original plans for the prequels did not involve the death of Vader’s love, Padmé. Here is everything you need to know about Lucas’ original plans for Padmé and her fate.

She shared screen space with newcomers Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, and John Boyega, as well as Star Wars veterans such as Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and Harrison Ford in the films. The films were divisive in their responses, with creator George Lucas himself not being a fan.

George Lucas served as the primary creative force behind the original trilogy and the prequel trilogy of Star Wars. George Lucas Nearly Cast a Different Actor as Darth Vader Changing the Flow of the Franchise Forever
Darth Vader is undeniably one of the most iconic fictional characters, known for his menacing black suit and distinctive voice. Many other works of fiction and art make reference to the character, making it a familiar presence.
But, did you know that the role of Vader nearly went to a different actor? One who, at the time, might have been even more preferred than James Earl Jones given the circumstances?
During the late 1970s, while filming ‘A New Hope’ in London, David Prowse, who portrayed Darth Vader physically, delivered all of Vader’s lines from behind the mask. However, the mask muffled his speech, necessitating dubbing in post-production. Prowse initially expected to dub his own lines, but logistical issues and concerns about his accent prompted George Lucas to seek another voice. Lucas sought a deep, distinguished voice befitting the enigmatic Darth Vader. Ultimately, James Earl Jones, then a relatively unknown actor,...

Darth Vader is without a doubt one of the most iconic fictional characters, recognized by his ominous black suit and his voice. Plenty of other works of fiction and art reference the character, and it’s one of those references we can always easily spot.

In this new clip from the upcoming Disney+ series Star Wars: Tales of the Empire, the Nightsisters face General Grievous and his droid army.
The battle pits the former Kaleesh warlord against the power of the Nightsisters. Will Dathomir Magic be enough to withstand Grievous’s ferociousness? We’ll find out starting on May 4th!
Admittedly, Grievous looks fantastic. The hulking cyborg Jedi-slayer is meacing, for the most part. There’s just something odd about General this time around.
Star Wars: Tales of the Empire does worry me a little. Ok, it’s Disney Star Wars, so it worries me a lot.
I’m glad the series will focus on characters who need some closure from Filioni’s earlier works, but what’s the deal with General Grievous in this clip? I know that in Dave Filoni’s Clone Wars, he’s way more talkative and cartoonish, but his appearance is off.

However, Robbins is not against returning for a proper modern revival of the character, but he wants it to have a different tone than the over-the-top nature of the 1986 film.

There is a new rumor that George Lucas could return to Lucasfilm to do a new Star Wars live-action series. I want to clarify that this is a rumor, and nothing has been confirmed. It comes from what someone claims they heard, but the source is someone who worked in and around ‘Star Wars.’
YouTuber Star Wars Theory posted a clip where he was interviewing Roger Christian. Christian had worked on “Star Wars: A New Hope,” “Star Wars: Return of the Jedi,” and “Star Wars: The Phantom Menace.” During the clip Christian just drops that he heard that George Lucas was returning to a galaxy far, far away.
He said:
“But I think he’s coming back, you know, I’m pretty sure now that he’s doing a series. I think that they’re now bringing him into the fold. From what I hear, cause there’s a Star Wars live-action series coming.

Disney’s acquisition of Lucasfilm sent shockwaves through the Star Wars fandom. Although people were initially reassured by the industry giant that nothing would change for their beloved $10 billion franchise, it proved otherwise. It is now being reported that George Lucas’s original sequel plans never materialized, and instead, Disney churned out Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, which now has its separate hate club!

George Lucas’ original plans for Episodes VII, VIII, and IX of the Skywalker Saga undoubtedly leave many fans feeling frustrated, as they never will have the opportunity to witness these versions come to life. Star Wars is still a cherished part of many people’s childhoods. Beyond the nostalgia, its sheer coolness and grandeur make it perfect for the theaters. However, it’s no secret that the Star Wars universe is expansive, with a plethora of spin-offs and sequels, which amounts to a $10 billion franchise.

It’s remarkable to think that the franchise remains relevant with new movies still coming out to this day. Nevertheless, it’s only natural that, despite its popularity, Star Wars has had its occasional oopsie-daisy moments. One such instance is The Phantom Menace, which even George Lucas, the creator of the universe, admits to being a bit “disjointed.”

The film was released in 1999 and received polarizing reactions from critics and fans alike. However, as time has passed the film has failed to improve its reputation among the fan base.

One thing everyone can agree on when it comes to the prequel trilogy is that George Lucas put his heart into those films, which can’t be said for the recent Star Wars flicks from Disney. But before departing from the iconic IP, Lucas also had plans on how the sequel trilogy would pan out, and while Disney did agree to respect his original wishes, unfortunately, it wasn’t the case.
Furthermore, following the failure of The Rise of the Skywalker, Lucasfilm strayed away from big-screen releases and shifted its focus to the small screen. But had Lucas’ original plans been incorporated, the sequel trilogy would’ve shattered stereotypes by introducing a new Darth Vader.

Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace celebrates a major milestone this year, and fans will never forget how the movie created a divisive opinion among its viewers, particularly on the matter of Jar Jar Binks.
Jar Jar Binks
The character was beloved by some and hated by many, and this remains a mystery among the cast and crew. Fans did not like the figure because of his clownish behavior and was too cartoonish for the movie.
Star Wars Actor Liam Neeson Reacted To Jar Jar Binks Issue

While the Star Wars saga has expanded into a vast universe over the years, including TV series, animation, novels, and comic books, certain films have failed to capture the hearts of fans as effectively as others. As far as iconic franchises go, George Miller’s Mad Max films are right up there among Hollywood’s favorite film series. Similar to his namesake George Lucas and his brainchild Star Wars, Miller created the dystopian action series back in 1979 with Mel Gibson, which was followed by three successful sequels in the 80s.

Well, it appears that some people know me too well because our beloved editor-in-chief sent me a link to this Star Wars burlesque show. Wait … is that a good thing?!
The Empire Strips Back: A Burlesque Parody is precisely up my alley. It’s an upcoming adults-only show based on George Lucas’s space opera! And there are many attractive people, along with surprisingly good-looking costumes and creature effects! How have I never heard of this production before?!
“Experience a unique blend of seduction and sci-fi as The Empire Strips Back takes you on a journey to the dark side! This tantalizing burlesque experience brings beloved characters to life with loving detail and humor that will leave you laughing and swooning at the same time.“
I’d love to show you more images from the upcoming production, but I’m sure it would result in the site being put on a list or something.

In the run-up to its world premiere in competition at the Cannes Film Festival, Francis Ford Coppola’s 135-minute epic “Megalopolis” is on track to sell to a French distributor, Le Pacte.
The indie company, presided over by veteran French distributor Jean Labadie, is currently negotiating a deal. It seems like an odd match for such a pricey movie considering Le Pacte’s fairly modest size. Although the company has had recent hits, including Justine Triet’s “Anatomy of a Fall” and Maiwenn’s “Jeanne du Barry,” it may not be able to splurge on P&a. Coppola’s lawyer Barry Hirsch, who also served as a producer, has been courting studios and streamers to secure a splashy deal with a P&a commitment amounting to more than half of the film’s $120 budget, according to industry insiders. The pending deal with Le Pacte suggests that the film, which Coppola self-financed, might...

The 2024 Cannes Film Festival lineup was finally revealed at the sliver of dawn on Thursday, April 11. Festival director Thierry Frémaux and president Iris Knobloch unveiled this year’s crop of films across the many sections, from the Competition to Un Certain Regard, during a press conference beginning at 5 a.m. Et. See the full lineup below.
The 77th edition of Cannes comes to the Côte d’Azur May 14 through 25, and a few titles were already confirmed to be in the mix. There’s Francis Ford Coppola’s self-funded epic “Megalopolis,” which has already screened for a rarified few in the United States to much awe and speculation over what distributor might take on Coppola’s experimental vision. For his first feature since 2011’s “Twixt,” Coppola gathered a cast including Adam Driver, Nathalie Emmanuel, Shia Labeouf, Giancarlo Esposito, Aubrey Plaza, and Jason Schwartzman for a sci-fi vision of a ruined NYC-like metropolis.

Zack Snyder has earned considerable respect and admiration from a lot of his audiences, both for himself as well as his incredible filmmaking skills. But among all the people who commend him on his breathtaking masterpieces and new creative inventions and storylines for his projects, a majority of the massive Star Wars fandom doesn’t seem to be included among his appreciators.

The franchise could have been totally different had Jim Carrey been a part of Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park. The ever-talented actor initially garnered the spotlight with his work in the 1990 TV series, In Living Color. He had been active in the industry for years, majorly portraying supporting roles, before rising to prominence in 1994 with a string of hit films, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, The Mask, and Dumb and Dumber.

You might remember English actor Julian Glover for his role as Walter Donovan, the villain of "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade." A Nazi collaborator who wants the Holy Grail to achieve immortality, he meets a grisly end when he chooses ... poorly.
In his native England, Glover was a renowned member of the Royal Shakespeare Company. In Hollywood, though? He's a 6'2 British man, so, of course, he plays the heels, even in his later roles like Pycelle on "Game of Thrones." (Who knows if he'll show up in "3 Body Problem" with his former co-stars.)
"Last Crusade" was not Glover's first rodeo with Lucasfilm; he had a much smaller role in "The Empire Strikes Back" as Imperial General Veers. The general only shows up in the film's first act, but he leads the At-at assault on the Hoth Rebel base (with some insert shots of him riding in the...

Star Wars: Jedi Survivor adds to the long history of Star Wars games that have dependably been held in high regard by fans over the years. The Star Wars franchise began with the release of the original film, Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope, in 1977. However, the story of how it came to be starts with its creator. George Lucas, a filmmaker with a passion for science fiction and mythology, birthed the concept of Star Wars in the early 1970s. During the extended climax of Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver, the much debated filmmaker not so much winks at his audience as he vigorously shakes us while shouting in our ear, “Do you get the reference?!” The lonely samurai-like character (read: Jedi), Bae Doona’s Nemesis, stands alone against an army of imperial thugs. She lights up her now familiar glowing machetes that are essentially lightsabers by a different hue, and her opponents each switch on their own. The sequence could have appeared in any one of the Star Wars prequels released in the 1990s and 2000s, or many of the Disney+ shows of today. Except of course for the fact that Nemesis’ blades are red while her foes use blue—and when she stabs one of them with the glowy end, actual bodily fluid seems to come out.

The votes have been tallied, and Disney’s victory over the activist investor Nelson Peltz and his Trian Partners is final.
But thanks to a new filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, we now have a sense of just how big a margin it was. Disney on Wednesday filed the “final, certified voting results” from the annual shareholder meeting, as tallied by its independent auditor First Coast Results, Inc.
Arguably the biggest winner was Disney CEO Bob Iger, who can now move forward with the “distracting” proxy fight behind him. Iger’s board seat was also up for a vote, and the filing shows that he secured about 94 percent of the votes, or 1,118,465,241 votes, with only 73,022,334 votes to withhold.
Peltz, meanwhile, was seeking to replace Maria Elena Lagomasino on the board, but only received 370,974,890 votes, compared to Lagomasino’s 749,857,222, with the current director beating him by a two-to-one margin.

He helped define the blockbuster, established the look and feel of '80s genre fare, and gave us the best (and possibly only well-shot) big-budget studio musical of the last decade. But despite getting his start in science fiction, Spielberg has mostly distanced himself from the genre in the past decade or so.
Still, Spielberg has remained an ardent fan of the genre, praising recent gems such as "Godzilla Minus One" and proclaiming his fandom for Denis Villeneuve's "Dune: Part Two." Perhaps this has rekindled a passion for sci-fi in 77-year-old Spielberg, seeing as he's now getting ready to return to one of his favorite subjects — aliens.
According to Variety, Spielberg is likely going to "make his next project a UFO film based on his own original idea." David Koepp is writing the screenplay, according to the outlet's sources.

The Cannes Film Festival has a long history of awarding individuals with the Honorary Palme d'or, but this year it will be going to a group for the very first time. That group is Studio Ghibli, which is the latest to receive the prestigious distinction. The award celebrates four decades and over 20 films from the renowned studio, many of which came from esteemed directors like Hayao Miyazaki and the late Isao Takahata. From its establishment in 1985 to today—which sees Ghibli with its own theme park in Aichi Prefecture—Ghibli's impact on animation has been monumental. The Honorary Palme d'or is a non-competitive award typically given to individuals such as actors or directors to mark their career achievements. Along with Ghibli, Star Wars creator George Lucas will also receive one during the closing ceremony of the 77th Cannes Film Festival, which will be held on Saturday, May 25. 2023's honors went...

Even as the beloved Japanese animation house theoretically winds down, Studio Ghibli is flying high. Hot off the heels of that Oscar win for The Boy And The Heron, the accolades just keep coming – the studio is being recognised at the Cannes Film Festival next month, set to receive an honorary Palme d’or at the 77th rendition of the festival, acknowledging its profound impact on our screens with 24 films across four decades.
Honorary Palme d’or awards are typically reserved for individuals – with George Lucas also set to join the ranks at this year’s festival – so this marks the first time that a group is receiving the honour. “With Ghibli, Japanese animation stands as one of the great adventures of cinephilia, between tradition and modernity,” notes Cannes’ Iris Knobloch and Thierry Frémaux. The award marks yet another positive turn for Ghibli, after The Boy And The Heron sailed...

Studio Ghibli, the Japanese animation studio co-founded by Hayao Miyazaki, will be feted with the Honorary Palme d’Or at the 77th Cannes Film Festival. This marks the first time Cannes has handed its Honorary Palme d’Or to a collective.
“I am truly honored and delighted that the studio is awarded the Honorary Palme d’Or,” said Toshio Suzuki, co-founder of Studio Ghibli.
“I would like to thank the Festival de Cannes from the bottom of my heart. Forty years ago, Hayao Miyazaki, Isao Takahata and I established Studio Ghibli with the desire to bring high-level, high-quality animation to children and adults of all ages. Today, our films are watched by people all over the world, and many visitors come to the Ghibli Museum, Mitaka, and Ghibli Park to experience the world of our films for themselves.”
