- DirectorSam MendesStarsDaniel CraigJavier BardemNaomie HarrisJames Bond's loyalty to M is tested when her past comes back to haunt her. When MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost.
- DirectorMartin CampbellStarsDaniel CraigEva GreenJudi DenchAfter earning 00 status and a licence to kill, secret agent James Bond sets out on his first mission as 007. Bond must defeat a private banker funding terrorists in a high-stakes game of poker at Casino Royale, Montenegro. The definitive revitalisation of the 007 franchise. Of course 'Dr. No' has its importance, being the first James Bond movie; and, in my humble opinion, we cannot ignore the significance 'From Russia with Love' have when we consider the definition of the style of these movies. However, it is here, in a movie that I consider to be the full realisation of the view that Campbell intended to construct with his 'GoldenEye', that the franchise shines brighter. A small, but very present villain, a somewhat rushed but efficient romance plot, a fantastic portrayal of MI6 positioning during its operations and a marvellous re-construction of the James Bond character, now more vulnerable and human then ever. If it weren't for some minor flaws due to over-simplication in some scenes, somo minor disarrangements in the film's editing and some not-needed action scenes, I would consider this movie as one the many jewels produced by the Seventh Art. Nevertheless, 'Casino Royale' is what Albert Broccoli wanted it to be: Eon's magnum opus.
- DirectorTerence YoungStarsSean ConneryRobert ShawLotte LenyaJames Bond willingly falls into an assassination plot involving a naive Russian beauty in order to retrieve a Soviet encryption device that was stolen by S.P.E.C.T.R.E.One of my personal favourites! While everybody loves to say that it was "Goldfinger" that launched the basis for the development of the whole franchise, I say: "No, it wasn't!". "From Russia with Love" has visual elegance, is narratively both thrilling and intriguing and musically more advanced than its predecessor. It's flaws lie manly in the ending with that awfully misplaced action sequences. But, nevertheless, great and prototypical, surely deserves your attention!
- DirectorGuy HamiltonStarsSean ConneryGert FröbeHonor BlackmanWhile investigating a gold magnate's smuggling, James Bond uncovers a plot to contaminate the Fort Knox gold reserve.I don't like this movie, but I recognise its importance. For me "From Russia with Love" is the one that defined the Bond movie style and structure, but I have to hand it to "Goldfinger": it managed to establish the tone that the whole franchise would assume, while adding a lot to the basis of "From Russia with Love". My insatisfaction comes mainly from the fact that the previous movie relied heavily on the mistery of SPECTRE's number one, so I imagined that here we would see a continuation on this matter. But no! Also I deslike Pussy Galore, the introduction of Auric Goldfinger and the henchman, Oddjob (yes, I know everyone loves him, but I find him too comical for this movie). But, it is important, of course!
- DirectorLewis GilbertStarsRoger MooreBarbara BachCurd JürgensJames Bond investigates the hijacking of British and Russian submarines carrying nuclear warheads, with the help of a K.G.B. agent whose lover he killed.Ah, back to the origins! This movie makes me remind of "You Only Live Twice" in terms od scale and tone, but "The Spy Who Loved Me" is an improvement upon each and any element of "You Only Live Twice". A marvellous soundtrack, fantastic cinematography, great script, one of my favourite Bond girls, my favourite henchman, an amazing scenario by the one and only Ken Adam and a classy villain! How would I love if Stomberg woulb be Blofeld!!! There are, of course, minor flaws here, and I would never consider this movie to be above "From Russia With Love" and "Goldfinger" for obvious reasons, but, nevertheless, the best movie of the Roger Moore era by far and surely one of the most entertaining and thrilling ones of the whole franchise!
- DirectorMartin CampbellStarsPierce BrosnanSean BeanIzabella ScorupcoYears after a friend and fellow 00 agent is killed on a joint mission, a secret space based weapons program known as "GoldenEye" is stolen. James Bond is assigned to stop a Russian crime syndicate from using the weapon.A very welcoming recreation of a James Bond movie structure, 'GoldenEye' introducts Pierce Brosnan's 007 with style and reverence. Funny and everlasting, this movie has one of the most memorable villains in the figure of Alec Travelain, former MI-6' 006 agent who gone rogue, took possession of a very powerful nuclear weapon called GoldenEye and threatens to send the whole mankind to the Stone Age again. Great in scale, and as important as 'Dr. No', 'From Russia with Love' and 'Goldfinger', but not as well-crafted as 'The Spy Who Loved Me', hence its place in this list.
- DirectorJohn GlenStarsTimothy DaltonRobert DaviCarey LowellA vengeful James Bond goes rogue to infiltrate and take down the organization of a drug lord who has murdered his friend's new wife and left him near death.A very dark, but, I must say, coward entry in the franchise. It threatens the life of one of Bond's oldest allies, Felix Leiter (present in the franchise since 'Dr. No'), in the menace posed by Sanchez, a criminal masterlord of the narcotics traffic, but chooses to let the man finally stay alive in the end. Puts James Bond against his own organization, only to be constantly helped by Q, in the ending part of the movie. The movie has scale, good action scenes, efficient soundtrack and a darker and different plot. But fails to provide consequence for the disturbing events it attempts to present us. Besides, Like it was with 'The Living Daylights', I find Dalton's Bond boring.
- DirectorLewis GilbertStarsSean ConneryAkiko WakabayashiMie HamaJames Bond and the Japanese Secret Service must find and stop the true culprit of a series of space hijackings, before war is provoked between Russia and the United States. What a charming and grand picture! The theme song, so smooth, so soft. The cinematography, so rich, so powerful. I really did like watching "You Only Live Twice", but I admit: it is not one of the greatest! It has too many clichés regarding the Japanese culture, is narratively problematic and, again, after "Thunderball", also presents a bored Sean Connery. But Freddie Young's cinematography, John Barry's wonderful soundtrack and the great Ken Adam's set design really pinned me to my seat. Although imperfect, this is a very entertaining entry in the series, hence its place on the rank.
- DirectorTerence YoungStarsSean ConneryUrsula AndressBernard LeeA resourceful British government agent seeks answers in a case involving the disappearance of a colleague and the disruption of the American space program. The movie that began everything, introducing not only the unforgettable British secret agent licensed to kill, 007, but also its main antagonist, the gloomy and politically diabolical SPECTRE. The establishment of the ideas that would go throughout all the series would come only in late entries, but here you can behold the introduction to this elegant and stylised world! It has many flaws, it is true, wich wouldn't permit me to rank it on the top part of the list, but it's definetely one the important works in the 007 series!
