And who do those "little Germans" become once they grow up?

- DirectorSimon BaumannStarsRuedi BaumannSimon BaumannStephanie BaumannSuberg. 475 meters above the sea, 612 inhabitants. A train station, a school, a tavern and a fertilizer factory. An average village in the Swiss Plateau. Within only three decades, this sleepy farmers' village has turned into an anonymous dormitory village. Simon Baumann has lived in Suberg since he was born. For 32 years, however, the filmmaker has successfully ignored the village and its inhabitants. Unlike his grandfather, who was a central figure in the village, he hardly knows anybody here. The filmmaker wants to change this now and tries to establish contact with the villagers. But how to integrate into a village that offers hardly any village community anymore? And why is it like that? Searching for answers, Simon meets people who have characterized Suberg and its development, deals with the concepts of life of his ancestors and finds with the male choir a last small oasis of community spirit.

- DirectorStéphanie ChuatVéronique ReymondThey're single, widowed or divorced ; they've had children, husbands, a job. They have a life behind them, but also one to come - "Ladies" reveals the intimate lives of five women in their sixties who are waging a discreet daily battle against loneliness. It's true that men often prefer younger women, it's true that one feels invisible in a youth-oriented society, but they are not washed up, far from it. One fills her time with activities, another is recovering from the loss of her husband, others find sustenance in nature - And love? They still believe in it, of course. It's never too late to dream.

- DirectorRosa Hannah ZieglerFamily Life was shot during a year in a small village in Saxony-Anhalt. Biggi lives in an old farmstead with her 2 daughters, four dogs, cats and horses and her ex-boyfriend Alfred. Biggi and Alfred don't have jobs and lead a very modest existence. They express their feelings and moods by singing their favourite songs. Biggi grew up as an adopted child, Alfred as a child in residential care. Both Denise and Saskia also spent time in care in the past. The fourteen and seventeen year old daughters always find reasons to stay at home, either because of heartache about Kevin or other more serious mental problems. Saskia came back from her residential care placement only recently and is trying to settle at home. Biggi just wants peace and her ex-boyfriend Alfred is longing for a communal life if it weren't for the tensions between him, Biggi and the girls. Family Life is about violence, about neglect, about what comes to light when you live on the edge, if you have dreams of a different life and eventually you realise that you always "walk in circles, and the walls get higher and higher." That's what Alfred said. When he started talking about this circle, spoke about this cycle, which is so difficult to break out of, I knew that was the subject of my film. We need to look very carefully and without prejudice what has shaped people. For instance origin, social class, family, prison, residential care, and feelings like love, dependencies and places, like a secure place, a place to retreat, a place of dreams, no matter how inhospitable it may seem to outsiders. We accompany them in their everyday life filled with conflict, learn something about their dreams, their fears and their hopes, and how hard it is to break out of a circle (cycle). At the end there is a departure. Alfred stays behind. Family life with horses, dogs and cats, TV, PC and smartphone.

- DirectorSimon Lereng WilmontStarsOleg AfanasyevAlexandra RyabichkinaJarikTHE DISTANT BARKING OF DOGS is set in Eastern Ukraine on the frontline of the war. The film follows the life of 10-year-old Ukrainian boy Oleg throughout a year, witnessing the gradual erosion of his innocence beneath the pressures of war. Oleg lives with his beloved grandmother, Alexandra, in the small village of Hnutove. Having no other place to go, Oleg and Alexandra stay and watch as others leave the village. Life becomes increasingly difficult with each passing day, and the war offers no end in sight. In this now half-deserted village where Oleg and Alexandra are the only true constants in each other's lives, the film shows just how fragile, but crucial, close relationships are for survival. Through Oleg's perspective, the film examines what it means to grow up in a war zone. It portrays how a child's universal struggle to discover what the world is about grows interlaced with all the dangers and challenges the war presents. Thus, THE DISTANT BARKING OF DOGS unveils the consequences of war bearing down on the children in Eastern Ukraine, and by natural extension, the scars and self-taught life lessons this generation will carry with them into the future.

But manufacturers remain discreet about the carbon footprint of their cars marked "zero emission". Because not only do they consume electricity that is not always clean, but they also consume rare metals such as cobalt or lithium, the extraction of which causes havoc on the other side of the world. In China, for example, champion of rare metals, in Heilongjiang province, a carpet of toxic dust covers agricultural regions.

- DirectorAndreas PichlerStarsDavid NuttRaphael GaßmannHarvey MilkmanAlcohol: No substance in the world seems so familiar to us and is so incredibly diverse in its effect. Alcohol is available everywhere and this particular molecule has the power to affect all 200 billion neurons of our human brain in completely different ways. But hardly anyone calls alcohol a drug despite its psychoactive and cell-destroying effect. Why do we tolerate the death of three million people every year? Have we turned a blind eye to the dangers and risks for thousands of years? What role does the powerful alcohol industry play with an annual turnover of 1.2 trillion euros in this on-going concealment? The author, who himself enjoys having a drink, looks into the question why we drink at all, what alcohol does to us and to what extent the alcohol industry influences society and politics. He travels around the world from Germany via England to Nigeria to detect aggressive trading practices of the global alcohol industry seeking growth in new markets at all costs. He also visits Iceland, which successfully made the turnaround: Where 20 years ago hordes of drunks roamed the streets, young people today master their need for relaxation and life stimulants without alcohol. The film has no intention to point a moral finger but nevertheless will significantly change the drinking habits of the viewer.

- DirectorChristian HornungDecades ago, they ended up in St. Pauli, a borough in the port city of Hamburg, Germany, hoping to escape the narrow-minded confines of the petit bourgeoisie, looking for work and a different kind of life. They struggled as dancers and strippers, barkeepers, sailors and pimps. Now they turn up at their favorite watering holes in broad daylight - the Hong Kong, the Utspann and the Kaffeepause (Coffee Break) - reminiscing about when they were in their primes. Telling stories about gold hunting, sinking ships, the old days in the St. Pauli red light district and contraband crocodiles. And of course the savings clubs, which they continue to be members of to this day, even though they don't consider themselves the money-saving types - they're live-for-today kind of people. When the money was rolling in, they spent it freely, never considering the future. But that savings club case hanging on the bar wall gave them a chance to keep a few marks, a few euros safe - first and foremost from themselves. A little nest egg to get by with. And so these divey establishments and their savings clubs became a home and an anchor to them through the years.

- DirectorJörg MüllnerStarsPhilipp SchepmannMargot FriedländerPeter KleinIt was arguably the deadliest conference in human history. The topic: plans to murder 11 million Jews in Europe. The participants were not psychopaths, but educated men from the SS, police, administration and ministries. The invitation to the meeting at Wannsee came from Reinhard Heydrich, head of the Reich Security Main Office. The Wehrmacht's campaigns of conquest in Eastern Europe marked the beginning of the systematic murder of Jews in Poland and the Soviet Union. In mid-September 1941, Hitler made the decision to deport all Jews from Germany to the East. Although there had been transports before, Hitler's order represented a further escalation in the murderous decision-making process. Persecution and discrimination had been part of everyday life since 1933. But as a result, the living conditions for the Jews in the Third Reich became even more difficult, among them the Berlin Jew Margot Friedländer, born in 1921, and the Chotzen family.
