- CreatorScott FrankAllan ScottStarsAnya Taylor-JoyChloe PirrieBill CampOrphaned at the tender age of nine, prodigious introvert Beth Harmon discovers and masters the game of chess in 1960s USA. But child stardom comes at a price. This one is really good.
- CreatorAlfred GoughMiles MillarStarsJenna OrtegaHunter DoohanEmma MyersFollows Wednesday Addams' years as a student, when she attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a killing spree, and solve the mystery that embroiled her parents.I did not expect to enjoy it that much. It's like Harry Potter meets Teen Wolf.
Favourite character: Wednesday Addams. - CreatorJonathan NolanStarsJim CaviezelTaraji P. HensonKevin ChapmanAn ex-CIA agent and a wealthy programmer save lives via a surveillance AI that sends them the identities of civilians involved in impending crimes. However, the details of the crimes, including the civilians' roles, are left a mystery.I thought it is going to be just another TV series similar to Bones or CSI. And it started like that: every episode is a new case and it gets solved. But then it became better, episodes were more connected to each other.
Favourite character: Sameen Shaw. - StarsDennis StorhøiMaibritt SaerensJan Gunnar RøiseFollows a group of people who arrive at Oslo airport, some to welcome their loved ones, some to fly home to their families, and others who want to fly away and escape Christmas.A wonderful miniseries! So many emotions. Of course everything ends up as happily ever after, but the journey is very interesting.
- CreatorPeter NowalkStarsViola DavisBilly BrownJack FalaheeA group of ambitious law students and their brilliant criminal defense professor become involved in a twisted murder plot that promises to change the course of their lives.Expected just another TV series similar to CSI, but it was much better just because of the continuing story. First season was gripping, second also good. Then I got a bit bored, but fourth season got back my attention. It is like Pretty Little Liars but for more mature audience.
Favourite character: Oliver Hampton. - CreatorRobert LevineJonathan E. SteinbergStarsJessica Parker KennedyToby StephensHannah NewFollows Captain Flint and his pirates twenty years prior to Robert Louis Stevenson's classic novel "Treasure Island."The sets are wonderful, the costumes are amazing (even though probably not historically accurate). I even liked the opening credits: no idea if the artwork is CGI or real, but either way it is impressive. However, I found myself a bit distracted during longer monologues. A lot of the characters have real counterparts and it was very interesting to read their Wikipedia pages and compare historical knowledge with portrayal in TV series.
Favourite character: Captain Charles Vane. - StarsChristian HillborgEdvin EndreElla RappichHow Swedish tech entrepreneur Daniel Ek and business partner Martin Lorentzon revolutionized the music industry through free and legal music streaming when they launched Spotify.I loved the portrayal of the events from various characters' point of view. It really made me think about the music industry, especially the last episode.
- StarsLeonard ScheicherMarius AhrendtMark WaschkeIn 1990s Berlin, an artist and a hacker invented a new way to see the world. Years later, they reunite to sue Google for patent infringement on it.That was really interesting. Never heard of this case before and I'm glad to learn about it.
- CreatorJason RothenbergStarsEliza TaylorBob MorleyMarie AvgeropoulosSet 97 years after a nuclear war destroyed civilization, when a spaceship housing humanity's lone survivors sends 100 juvenile delinquents back to Earth, hoping to repopulate the planet. It has some interesting plot points, some good episodes. But it is a mix of so many different things: Lost, The Hunger Games, Survivor, Gladiator, Interstellar, Chernobyl, After the Dark, Avatar, The Host, Brave New World...
Favourite character: John Murphy. - CreatorBen HarrisStarsAdam PålssonLeanne BestEllise ChappellFollow recently graduated police officer Kurt Wallander as he investigates his first case.I guess I wanted to see it because it was filmed in Lithuania. But it became a distraction when I knew that the two locations appearing close by are quite far apart in reality. The mystery/crime part in OK, but not very satisfying.
- CreatorNat SaundersJames SerafinowiczStarsRupert GrintNick FrostPippa Bennett-WarnerWhen Daniel Glass is misdiagnosed with a fatal disease he begins to notice how everyone around him treats him better, so he decides to keep pretending that he really is sick. This leads to more lies, and, eventually, crimes.I thoroughly enjoyed it. True British humor. And I didn't even look at Rupert Grint as Ron Weasley!
Favourite character: dr. Iain Glennis. - CreatorMike FlanaganStarsCarla GuginoBruce GreenwoodMary McDonnellSiblings Roderick and Madeline Usher have built a pharmaceutical company into an empire of wealth, privilege and power; however, secrets come to light when the heirs to the Usher dynasty start dying.I have read all the works of Edgar Allan Poe but long ago thus I was not able to recognise all the inspiration for the episodes. And also they are quite changed to appeal to modern audiences. It was interesting to watch but everything became clear even before the last episode.
- StarsAmaka OkaforKyle SollerShira HaasFour detectives, living in different eras -1890, 1941, 2023 and 2053 - find the body of the same murder victim in Whitechapel. They soon come to realize their investigations have them central to a conspiracy spanning over 150 years.Intriguing, leaves some questions. As with many 8-episode limited series, the idea becomes clear before the last episode.
- StarsRobert JackSusanna HerbertBen CartwrightA Chronicled look at the fall of the Romanov dynasty in Russia. There is a story-line, there is a narration, and there is the researchers and authors talking. I did not expect such format and at first I did not liked the documentary part. It is almost a history lesson.
- CreatorRowan AtkinsonWilliam DaviesStarsRowan AtkinsonClaudie BlakleyJing LusiA man finds himself at war with a bee while housesitting a luxurious mansion. Who will win, and what irreparable damage will be done in the process? It should have been a movie: a total run time is about 100 minutes and it is supposed to be watched back-to-back. Nonetheless, I enjoyed physical comedy and British humour.
Favourite character: Trevor. - 20228 epsTV-MA6.4 (54K)TV Mini SeriesCreatorHugh DavidsonLarry DorfRachel RamrasStarsKristen BellTom RileyMary HollandWhen a handsome neighbor moves in across the street, Anna, a heartbroken woman for whom every day is the same, starts to see a light at the end of the tunnel; that is, until she witnesses a gruesome murder. Or did she?I thought that this is the sequel to "The Woman in the Window". It is actually supposed to be a parody, but feels like a copy. I don't know if I was supposed to, but I laughed at the conclusion.
- CreatorTony AyresChristian WhiteStarsZoe KazanBetty GabrielPhoenix RaeiWhen family man Nick Brewer is abducted in a crime with a sinister online twist, those closest to him race to uncover who is behind it and why.The beginning was rather slow, but second part was very fast paced, action packed, with many twists. As a mystery and thriller fan, I kept guessing who the killer is and it was not so easy.
- CreatorSteve LightfootStarsSimona BrownEve HewsonTom BatemanIt follows Louise, a single mum with a son and a part-time job in a psychiatrist's office. She begins an affair with her boss and strikes up an unlikely friendship with his wife.It was quite interesting, but I felt it would be better for me as a book. I loved the 5th episode and even though I guessed the twists, they were still good.
Favourite character: Rob. - CreatorRebecca SonnenshineStarsMamoudou AthieDina ShihabiEvan JonigkeitAn archivist hired to restore a collection of tapes finds himself reconstructing the work of a filmmaker and her investigation into a dangerous cult.It started very well, hooked me up. But it looked too long, later episodes dragged too much. I did not expect it to be truly supernatural.
- StarsDavid TennantStanley TucciDolly WellsA prisoner on death row in the US and a woman trapped in a cellar under an English vicarage, cross paths in the most unexpected way.Interesting concept.
- CreatorAnthony SalterStarsNatalie MartinezKate BosworthRonald PeetWhen ten people wake up on a treacherous island with no memory of who they are and how they got there, they set off on a trek to try to get back home, only to discover the world is not as it seems. It is not that bad. I like mysteries there people are stranded in a small place and have to find their way out. The most interesting parts for me were on the island (without Bonnie and Clyde). The prison thing was not that interesting.
- StarsNeil Patrick HarrisPatrick WarburtonMalina Pauli WeissmanAfter the loss of their parents in a mysterious fire, the three Baudelaire children face trials and tribulations attempting to uncover dark family secrets. It is so stylized that I just could not get into it: it feels like a video game. Count Olaf sounds like Barney Stinson in one of his legen-dary schemes. But I liked that almost everyone has a library and that the "eye" pattern repeats often.
Favourite character: Sunny Baudelaire. - CreatorHaro AsoStarsKento YamazakiTao TsuchiyaNijirô MurakamiObsessed gamer Arisu suddenly finds himself in a strange, emptied-out version of Tokyo in which he and his friends must compete in dangerous games in order to survive. It is better than Squid Game. I like the first season more, it had a coherent structure - one game per episode. Second season seemed to drag and I didn't like that the game starts in one episode, ends in another, and a new game begins in the same episode.
Favourite character: Chishiya. - StarsLee Jung-jaePark Hae-sooDylan BesseauHundreds of cash-strapped players accept a strange invitation to compete in children's games. Inside, a tempting prize awaits with deadly high stakes: a survival game that has a whopping 45.6 billion-won prize at stake. The most popular does not mean it is the best. The idea is not new. It was full of "Chekhov's guns", stories leading nowhere. But honestly, English dubbing was not too bad. At least they used different voices and tried to match emotions.
- StarsFriederike BechtAugust DiehlWotan Wilke MöhringWhen a singer is found murdered, with her scent glands excised from her body, detectives probe a group of friends who attended boarding school with her.Meh... It started off quite good, I was intrigued. But soon it went some different direction than expected and never came back. I did not like the ending, the resolution did not make sense to me. With that ending most of other episodes seem useless.
- StarsTim AhernPaul FreemanSerge HazanaviciusA historical drama that focuses on a decade-long investigation into events in the Pacific during and after WWII.An important topic, but I was bored while watching.
- StarsBill SkarsgårdVilhelm BlomgrenSandra IlarThis is the incredible story behind Sweden's most notorious gangster, Clark Olofsson, whose infamous crimes gave rise to the term "Stockholm Syndrome".I felt like the criminal and the crimes are romanticised and it is just wrong. With each episode, I disliked the series more and more.
