Arrival is excellently acted and directed and there are story elements that are really interesting. However, the film implements a Deus Ex Machina that undermines its intriguing concept. Fantastic, entertaining characters elevate this uneven story that uses too many crutches, but delivers an insane and enjoyable ride.
The Extended Cut shows more of the relationship between Deadshot and Flag as the film progresses as well as a bit more of Harley's past, both of which are improvements.
