The first feature-length animated film that laid the foundation stone for Disney company and the genre itself. If this movie failed Disney company probably would never get off the ground and dozens of masterpieces would never see light of day. It is questionable if we would even have this genre today. The success of this movie encouraged other companies to take this path and enrich childhoods of many generations.
The movie was made in four years, two million $ was spent, and it made a profit of around 200 million and won a bunch of awards. A masterpiece of art that laid the foundation of a new genre, resisted the test of time and to this day it keeps its place at the top of best movies of all times. Despite the progress of technology, even after 80 years, few cartoons reached this level. These days cartoons are not made by hand and the production process is much faster and easier, but movies are mostly tragically bad. That's sad. By today's standards I would give it 8/10, but considering that it was handmade 80 years ago and influence it has on everything that came after, even 10/10 is not enough.
And of course, we must not forget fantastic songs led by "Heigh-Ho". - DirectorJames AlgarSamuel ArmstrongFord Beebe Jr.StarsLeopold StokowskiDeems TaylorThe Philadelphia OrchestraA series of eight famous pieces of classical music, conducted by Leopold Stokowski and interpreted in animation by Walt Disney's team of artists.Childhood memories
When I see the cartoons that kids watch on TV these days I'm really worried about what they'll grow up into. All the fairy-tale imagination disappeared from kid's channels, and beautiful animations are replaced with modern ugly-simplified and mostly stupid characters. It is up to us, 20th-century generations, to show today's kids all the magic of old Disney and preserve it from fading into oblivion. "Fantasia" is Disney's approach to classical music and, I must admit, it's not one of my favorites. I always loved the animation part, but the music was quite boring for me as a kid. Still, its quality and worth are undisputable. If nothing else, this is the best way to try and bring Bach, Tchaikovsky, Stravinsky, Beethoven, Mussorgsky, closer to kids and let them decide for themselves. "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" by Paul Dukas was and still is my favorite part of this legendary musical. Some parts are fantastic, others I didn't like at all, and my average rating would be about
7/10 - DirectorHarve FosterWilfred JacksonStarsRuth WarrickBobby DriscollJames BaskettThe kindly story-teller Uncle Remus tells a young boy stories about trickster Br'er Rabbit, who outwits Br'er Fox and slow-witted Br'er Bear. One of my favorite childhood memories and one of Disney's masterpieces, far better than anything they are making today. Unfortunately, it is hard to find because Disney was forced to withdraw it... Why ?! Because the movie is accused of racism and bad stereotypes. The movie was not directly forbidden, but whatever agency was in charge of this kind of stuff those days, they let Disney know that showing a warm family atmosphere between slaves and their owners is unacceptable and cannot be tolerated. I understand fights against discrimination and for equality and tolerance, but they really push it too far and destroy many beautiful things of great value by sticking to their principals. I mean... Disney did not come up with this story in the 20th century with the intention to offend the black race. This movie is based on a book that is written in the year 1800. Should they raise the author from the dead to change his novel, just because society's circumstances are changed 150 years after ?! If this movie is offensive to the black population because of slavery, then let's banish slaves from movies about ancient Greece or Rome, let's change the history. Ridiculous. This movie is not offensive discrimination, this movie is one of the most emotional and beautiful masterpieces made for kids in the history of animation.

It's too complicated for smaller children and has a couple of unexplained details, but essentially very nice and quite original cartoon.

The US-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee protested over the pro-Western display of Aladdin and Jasmine, who is always without a veil, over the fact that all the characters with the turban are bald, and that all the villains are caricatured personifications of prejudices about the Arabs. But the fiercest protests were caused by a verse from the song "Arabian Nights," which opens the cartoon. The verse now reads "Where it's flat and immense and the heat is intense, it's barbaric, but, hey, it's home". In the original version, the verse read "Where they cut off your ears if they don't like your face, it's barbaric, but, hey, it's home". This provoked such an alarm that the film was placed among the most controversial achievements of all time.
Personally, I find this information quite interesting, but totally irrelevant, because the animation is excellent, the music is beautiful, the story is quite solid, and the film that stars Robin Williams by default can not fail.
8/10 - StarsChristopher LeeGraham CrowdenDebra GillettA small girl, a half-elf, and Death together have to stop the musical force known as "Music with Rocks In" from taking over the Discworld. You may find yourself liking Death
An excellent cartoon based upon the novel by Terry Pratchett, creator of the cult Discworld. Discworld is a flat world, carried on the backs of four elephants, standing on the shell of the giant space turtle, Great A'tuin. It is a series of several dozen novels that, in a sarcastic, clever and very humorous way, cover the history of mankind in all its aspects. Each of these novels immediately after the publication reaches the top of best-seller lists. Whoever did not read Discworld novels misses an inexhaustible source of fun and laughter. Some of Pratchett's books are adapted into movies, but one of the main characters, Death, is quite lousy shown in feature films, and much more faithfully in the cartoons. I love all of them, but this one is good enough to start with. I hope it hooks you to read the books.
The animation is poor, but story, jokes, music, and Christopher Lee fully compensate for it.

Witches by their nature are not prone to social organization and certainly do not have their leaders. Granny Weatherwax was most respected among the leaders they did not have. But even she discovered that interfering in royal politics hides much more fuss than some drama writers claimed.
Terry Pratchett is one of my favorites, and certainly the funniest writer whom I have had the good fortune to read. His gigantic series of novels about Discworld is an extremely funny satire of the entire humanity and everything that makes human civilization. This animated mini-series quite faithfully follows one of the first and best novels of Discworld series. The animation is nothing special, and just over two hours can not conjure up the magic of reading Pratchett, especially because his genius metaphors are impossible to show on screen, but you won't regret if you take the time to see this.

For some reason, I stopped following this show a long time ago, even before the tenth season I think. Recently, again for some inexplicable reason, it came to my mind and I decided to start it all over, from season one, but this time I'm going to finish it, or better to say catch it, because I hope it will never end. This morning I finished the first season. There's nothing better than healthy laughter with morning coffee. After 20 years this season is still fresh and hilarious. One of the strongest tens I ever gave.

In the last year I have seen all 22 seasons of "South Park" and, although it had its ups and downs, overall it's one of the best TV shows of all time and definitely the ultimate animated one. I can't wait for the 23rd season. - DirectorTrey ParkerStarsTrey ParkerMatt StoneMary Kay BergmanWhen Stan Marsh and his friends go see an R-rated movie, they start cursing and their parents think that Canada is to blame."You may laugh yourself sick - as sick as this ruthlessly funny movie is"
"I was not a fan of South Park before I saw BL&U, nor was I a fan of movie musicals. Well, I'm still not a fan of musicals, but I'm a fan of *this* musical, and I am grateful to Parker and Stone for demonstrating that it's still possible to make a great movie on one's own terms.
For this movie, unlike the usual feature-length adaptation of a pop culture phenomenon, not only lives up to its pedigree, it wildly exceeds it. Yes, the movie does recycle many of the show's jokes, but it does so in new yet relevant contexts that keep the material funny if you are familiar with the South Park world. If you aren't familiar with that world (as I wasn't before seeing the movie), the gags are simultaneously accessible yet often subtle.
Subtle? Yes, many of the gags are. Indeed, one of the pleasures of owning a copy of the movie is having the ability to review the movie, in slo-mo if necessary, and discover throwaway sight gags that one has missed in the delirium of watching this anarchic satire the first time through. (And if you have the DVD, you can add subtitles to catch many of the songs' often elusive lyrics.)
Then there's the music. What is it about movie musicals that attracts great satiric minds? Not since Pynchon's "Gravity's Rainbow" has a work of art so subversively exploited the conventions of the movie musical as South Park. From the droll opening strains of Mountain Town, to the Disneyesque "Up There," to the Les Miserables spoof, "La Resistance," South Park simultaneously sends up the genre while paying homage to it, and still finds room to use the songs to score delicious points against its myriad targets.
One last thing: this movie is not cynical. Beneath the scatological humor, the cartoon violence, the scathing portrayals of Wynona Ryder et al, and the backdrop of adult xenophobia, sexual repression, and political opportunism, is a sensibility that exalts childhood as an island of honesty and idealism, if also of id-like impulse and frequent selfishness. In this, they share space on the shelf of great satires with "Candide," "Gulliver's Travels," "Tom Sawyer" and especially "Huckleberry Finn"--classics that, like BL&U, also exposed the hypocrisies of the adult world "through the eyes of a child."
Elvis Costello once sang, "I want to bite the hand that feeds me/I want to bite that hand so badly/I want to make them wish they'd never met me." That BLU was shut out at the Academy Awards (having only garnered a nomination for the relatively tame "Blame Canada", which lost, appropriately enough, to the execrable Phil Collins) only vindicates the film's take-no-prisoners send-up of nearly everything that annoys in this suffocatingly focus-group-tested, PC-policed, cynically sentimental, violence-ridden, love-starved modern world. See this movie, and see the persistence of hope and possibility sparkling like a diamond amid the pop culture detritus of a quiet little red-necked, white-trash, strait-laced, meshugeneh, US mountain town." - Tresy

A Disney cartoon that brings us the adventure of a TV star dog and his newly acquired friends, an alley cat, and a pet hamster. Bolt is a superhero dog, who lives in the delusion that his powers from the TV series are real, and his gradual discovery that in the real world he is just an ordinary dog leads to a series of comic situations. An additional plus to his character is that his voice is lent by John Travolta. Among the more famous, there are also Miley Cyrus, Malcolm McDowell, and Chloë Moretz. The film lost the race for the Oscar for the best animated feature film to the legendary "Wall-E". Nothing spectacular, but a lot of fun.

And right now the electricity is telling it that the store is about to be closed down. There is more of Pratchett's magic besides Discworld
In addition to the unmatched Discworld series, Pratchett has written many more things, and in particular stand out his books for children and those who still nurture their inner child. "Truckers" is a fairly faithful adaptation of the eponymous novel about miniature people living in the walls of a department store and for which the outside world is just a matter of legends. But the department store is to be demolished and Noums must leave their home and seek for a new one. Pratchett once again shows his amazing talent for satire and humor, which will win over adults, and excellent stop-motion animation and a simplified way of storytelling will bring this beautiful adventure closer to the youngest audience. However, to me as a fan(atic) of Terry Pratchett, who read everything he could get his hands on and saw all adaptations, this is far from the maximum that adaptations of this author can provide.

This movie is an adaptation of the story from mid 18th century written by Jeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumont. The original story is completely different and I prefer it to Disney's version, but I understand why did they have to take a totally different approach and I admit that the result is amazing. Still, I recommend you to read the original text because it will shine a new light on the story and give you insight in its depth and true meaning. Disney's movie is meaningful, but it's mostly just a fairy- tale, while the original has a much heavier background. This is the very first animated movie nominated for an Academy Award for the best picture. It didn't win it, but it won two other Oscars, for the original score and the title song.

Beginning is very promising and just when I thought it would become one of my favorites it starts to slip into ruin. Ideas and essence of this movie are great, but author simply does not know when to stop. There's bunch of beautiful and witty scenes, destroyed by overdoing until they end up distasteful. I'm disappointed and sad to see such inspirational idea and quality realization messed up and spoiled with some completely unnecessary moments.

It's healthy for a soul. From this one I did not expect anything at all and I was in for a pleasant surprise. Young and silly scientist gathers expedition to find Atlantis, but his crew are not who he thought they are. After about 20 minutes I lost any feeling that I am watching cartoon and I experienced this same as feature movie. It would be great if they would really make one. It hold attention and does not irritate you with too much niceness and morality, so it is not annoying to non-kids audience. It's not on the level with greatest Disney masterpieces but it definitely is worth watching. I really enjoyed it.

I heard many things about this movie and everything was true, but even if I did know what to expect I was swept off my feet. Adventure that, in very vulgar and explicit way, makes fun of racial, political, sexist, homophobic and every other stereotype you could possible think of, alluding or directly spoofing celebrities, famous events, movies, music. I think it is impossible to catch all layers and details of this movie in just one watching. Technically it's nothing special, but story is good enough to make everything else negligible. Even the worst scenes are fun, and those best and most shocking I had to rewind and re-watch several times, not being able to believe my own eyes and ears. I couldn't say it's one of the best animated movies of all time, but it definitely is the most original and bravest I've seen so far and I'm absolutely amazed.

It is far from bad movie, but Tim Burton is just a producer here and comparing this with movies Burton wrote and directed is nothing but blasphemy. My main objection to this movie are pretty much boring songs. It's unbelievable that this movie was nominated for Best Music Academy Award. Out of all Disney animated movies I saw so far this one has definitely the worst soundtrack and not even one song that became evergreen hit. I don't know who's better, but I know that both can kiss Disney's ass. As a kid I was comic-books fan. There were superhero comics mentioned above, than Il Grande Blek, Za-Gor-Te-Nay, Martin Mystery, Dylan Dog and bunch of others. I gave up on comics long time ago and the only one I still cherish is unsurpassed Alan Ford. But as a child, I did not rejoice in anything as much as I rejoiced Mickey and company.
Mickey, Donald and Goofy, as three musketeers, are saving princess, followed by original lyrics written on the famous compositions of legends of classical music. I don't know why I decided to watch this at all. I suppose I wanted to take a look at how Mickey looks like nowadays and turn it off in a few minutes, but I ended up watching it till the end with a smile from ear to ear. And to be honest, I didn't feel so cheerful for a long time. Disney forever <3

Thinking - if it wasn't good it wouldn't be alive for 30 seasons - I decided to catch up. I started to watch first season and after three episodes I gave up on it. I am not saying it sucks, far from it, but it isn't nowhere close to be good enough to spend over 200 hours on watching its 636 episodes. Somewhat cute and witty, but compared to, for example, South Park, it's not worthy to be even mentioned.
6/10 - DirectorRaul GarciaStarsChristopher LeeBela LugosiJulian SandsAn animated anthology of five tales adapted from Edgar Allan Poe's stories.Raul Garcia, writer, director and animator of animated movies, adapted five great stories of Edgar Allan Poe into five short animated movies, banded together by graveyard conversation between Poe (Stephen Hughes) in a form of raven and Death (Cornelia Funke). Each story uses different animation technique and Sergio de la Puente composed original music which fits perfectly with their mystical atmosphere. In first segment Christopher Lee tells famous "The Fall of the House of Usher", followed by strange but striking computer animation. Second part brings archive footage of legendary Bela Lugosi reading "The Tell-Tale Heart" with black and white animation that feels like negative. "The Facts in the Case of M. Valdemar", narrated by Julian Sands, is done in comic-book style. Guillermo del Toro presents an internal monologue of the prisoner in the Inquisition dungeon, from the story "The Pit and the Pendulum", with video game type of animation. The last story brings "The Masque of the Red Death" in the form of a moving aquarelle and without narration. And just for a brief moment Roger Corman gives voice to Prince Prospero. Considering that all together lasts just a little over one hour, stories are very reduced, so connoisseurs and fans of Edgar Allan Poe might resent them as butchered, while those ignorant of his work could have troubles understanding them, especially last two. But if you read these stories, or at least saw movie adaptations and roughly know what are they about, and if you are not nagger trying to find faults in everything, you'll enjoy magically gloomy and dreary atmosphere of this really extraordinary movie.

"In many ways, Shrek 2 is to fairy tales, what Kill Bill:Vol.2 is to the Kung Fu genre. Although these are very different movies, both spoof all previous movies of their type and are loaded with insider allusions (just look at the length of the IMDb trivia sections for each!). Both use latest technology to create a hyper-real quality which goes beyond their forerunners to create a feel that the viewer is seeing something that has not been seen before. But each also stays true to their genres' formula conventions of character and plot that, though seemingly worn out, we still love. As a result these movies are satisfying, meeting some deep rooted needs but in novel and refreshing ways." - rserrano - CreatorTommy BlachaBrendon SmallStarsBrendon SmallTommy BlachaMark HamillThe epic and over-the-top adventures of Dethklok, the world's most successful death metal band.I just finished the first season of the animated series Metalocalypse. It has 63 episodes in a total duration of around 12 hours. Episodes last only for about ten minutes, but I think it's better not to watch them too many at once. I watch one per day, usually during a morning coffee, so that my day starts with metal and laughter.
Series follows the adventures of the band Dethklok, the most popular death metal band of all time, a band that is so popular that it is one of the strongest economies in the world and has such an army of fans that it has a serious impact on world politics. Members of this band are five completely different personalities representing caricatures of "typical" rock stars. As much as they are successful as a band, that much everything they touch goes berserk and ends with a total disaster from which only the band gets out without major consequences. Show is satire of western civilization, modern politics and consumer society, as well as the prejudice of metalheads.
The animation is pretty good, the music and lyrics are excellent, story has a fast pace, a lot of black humor and it's extremely brutal and gore. And the opening theme has immediately entered the very top of my favorites and is one of the few that I do not skip even though I saw it so many times that I know it by heart.

The first half of the movie is slow-paced and boring, while everything is happening in the second half, so the story is quick and undeveloped. I have the impression that I've watched an introductory episode of a series rather than a complete rounded movie. Song "Colors of the Wind" may have earned the Oscar that year (I do not know what was its competition), but music as a whole is below Disney's level. There aren't any catchy songs that once you've heard them you'll never forget. I finished this movie about 15 minutes ago and I already can't remember any of them. All in all, cute but forgettable.

With duration of four regular episodes, "The Doomstar Requiem" is rock opera, where complete story, with all dialogues, is shown through songs. Music is great, genre diverse and very fun. I suppose the series was canceled and they made this just to avoid leaving the story unfinished, but that doesn't make it any less awesome. I enjoyed all 63 episodes and I'll miss it.

How could anyone resist this announcement... In 1996, this movie was a miracle that, even without the internet, caused big hype. I loved it as a kid, and now, two decades later, I didn't enjoy any less.
An amusement park, somewhere far away in space, begins to decline in attendance and the owner has to provide new attractions to stay in business. He decides to go to Earth and kidnap Warner's cartoon characters. The fate of the Looney Tunes will be decided by a basketball game against aliens, and desperate toons are calling for help from Michael Jordan.
Story is classic Looney Tunes cartoon combined with feature film. Beside probably every Warner animated character and Michael Jordan, there are few more NBA players and genius comedians Wayne Knight and Bill Murray. From today's perspective, the film is technically rather outdated, but even if you are not able to look at it from the perspective of the time in which it originated, its speed, humor and a lot of interesting details and references (which you have no chance to catch all during a single viewing) leave you no time to bother with technical shortcomings. I also particularly liked the music (Seal, R. Kelly, Salt-N-Pepa, Technotronic, 2 Unlimited), which objectively might not be that great, but in me, who grew up in nineties, it woke up some nostalgia and its specific atmosphere put me in the right mood to enjoy this wacky film.

Everyone around me likes them, and I really wanted to give them a chance, but it bores me to death. My dear was watching the whole series two times and was ready to watch it again just to hook me, but watching Bleach is an agony for me. The subjective impression after the first few episodes is about 3/10, but I am aware that this is unrealistic and more a consequence of my taste than the quality of the series. The series has good characterization and a very interesting story, and I'm really interested in how it evolves, but the animation is poor, and the directing is horrible. The fight scenes are virtually unwatchable. Instead of raising the level of adrenaline, I was struggling not to fall asleep. Watching TV should be a pleasure, not a maltreatment, and therefore I give up and leave it unrated. (Rating on IMDb is there just for series to appear in my list of watched titles.)

Everybody wants to be a cat
Because a cat's the only cat
Who knows where it's at
Tell me, everybody's pickin' up
On that feline beat
'Cause everything else is obsolete
A square with a horn
Makes you wish you weren't born
Every time he plays
But with a square in the act
You can set music back
To the caveman days
I've heard some corny birds
Who tried to sing
Still a cat's the only cat
Who knows how to swing
Who wants to dig
A long-haired gig stuff like that?

When playin' jazz

I watched first 6 (out of 37) episodes and I'm hooked. Although this type of animation goes on my nerves, it's not as bad as in other anime I encountered so far, and the story is so good that I have to see it through, no matter retarded looks of Shinigami and all the other flaws of the genre. This would be excellent feature thriller, either movie or series. If possible, in Japanese or European production, although I doubt even Hollywood could screw it too much. But, speculation on the side, in this form, I rate it

As the series progressed, I was more and more tempted to give it a 9, or even 10, but the last episode was a real disappointment. Someone who has been living a triple life for six years and playing the game at such a high level would not make such an amateur mistake. I knew they will get him eventually, but I was expecting some highly intelligent mindfak, not the outworn cliche of a villain exulting in the face of the enemy before his plan succeeded. Final rating

This adult animated sci-fi/fantasy movie is an anthology of stories adapted from the magazine of the same name and original stories in the same spirit. It's full of violence and nudity and accompanied by the music of great rock and metal names of its time, including Sammy Hagar, Blue Öyster Cult, Cheap Trick, Don Felder, Nazareth, Journey, Stevie Nicks and legendary Black Sabbath. I think it gained cult status more because of its name, awesome music and naked women, than its objective quality, but although it's now outdated, those who grew up in eighties and nineties will understand its greatness, even if they're watching it now for the first time.

The story, if it is literal, does not make much sense, the characterization is lousy, and the motivation of the characters' actions is completely unclear. If the story is symbolic, maybe I did not understand it. One of the reasons for this may be that there was no script for the film, but it was written along the way. There is also a cultural gap between the East and the West. The authors were aware of this, so English-language synchronization contains more text than the original Japanese version, in order to explain to the Western audience some of the things that the Japanese perceive. But I was watching the original Japanese version, so I was deprived of these explanations. Based on what I have written so far, it looks like I didn't like it, but it's not so. All objections are negligible before the unique beauty of this accomplishment. Rationally, I would impose an average grade of five, or perhaps six, but this film does not aim at reason, but wins at a much deeper level. That's why in 2003 it won the award that suits it the best - Best Movie for Grownups Who Refuse to Grow Up. In addition, it won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature, as the first anime ever nominated in this category. It is also one of the two animated films that have ever won Japan Academy Prize for picture of the year, and it holds the 27th place on the IMDb Top 250. Deserved.

But even though it's a top-quality cartoon, it's not at the level of its predecessors. Animation and music are excellent, but there's less humor and it's less funny. While I was crying of laughter during first two movies, this time I sincerely laughed just a few times. Although, to be honest, I'm not sure if this is due to a weaker scenario or it's simply saturation, because sequels that stick to the recipe of the first film inevitably lack originality and the surprise factor. All accompanied with lots of weed and heavy metal. Plus, in main supporting role we have Jason Mewes, Jay from legendary Jay and Silent Bob duo. The only flaw of this show is that it was canceled after two seasons, so main story is left incomplete. However, every episode has own rounded plot so they can be watched separately. Also, animated movie that should finish the story is announced and it's expected very soon. Recommendation for everyone who love metal, weed, '80s horrors, teen comedies, things so stupid that they're ingenious and good fun. I saw all 26 episodes in just a few days and I yearn for more.
9/10"
At the time show was cancelled, authors had scenario prepared for total of four seasons so, for the story not to remain incomplete, they announced that they would pack the remaining two seasons into a full-length animated film. I was eagerly awaiting the day when they will finally release this cartoon, but eventually I made peace with the fact that it will not happen. And then, six years after the cancellation of the series, "The End of the End" really appeared.
The animation of characters very faithfully mimics actors from the series, and the voices are given to them by the original cast. The story continues in the same manner as in the first two seasons but, due to the shortening of the entire two seasons into a 80 minutes film, the decline in the quality of the story is more than obvious. And the cartoon simply can not replace the atmosphere of the original show. It does not make sense to watch this movie if you have not watched the series, and it is pretty much lousy standing alone, but for a big fans of the series, such as myself, it's great, on the one hand because I finally learned how the story ends and on the other because of nostalgia. Objectively it doesn'tt deserve such a high grade, but love is stronger than reason and I rate it

For me, this noir-mystery-comedy-thriller to this day remains the best movie that combines live action and animated film. I saw it countless times, never found a flaw, and I could count the qualities until the day after tomorrow. The story is simple but well-written, the combination of the noir atmosphere and the atmosphere of short cartoons is captivating, and one-liners are hilarious. This is the only film in which Disney and Warner characters appear together on the screen, and there are also several characters from other studios. The film has several parallels to "Chinatown" and "Back to the Future", and it parodies or pays homage to many more iconic movies and characters. It is full of awesome details that you have no chance to notice all during just one viewing, and for some it is necessary to watch the movie in slow motion because they are put in single frames.
What fascinates me most about this movie is that computer animation wasn't used at all. Everything was done old-school and 326 animators hand-drawn over a million drawings, of which nearly one hundred thousand frames were used in the movie. With 70 million dollars invested, this is the most expensive film of the 80's. It had six Academy Awards nominations, out of which it won three. I must also mention the excellent music by Alan Silvestri (Fandango, Cat's Eye, Back to the Future franchise, Predator, Young Guns II, The Bodyguard, Judgment Night, Forrest Gump, Judge Dredd, Identity, Van Helsing, Night at the Museum, Captain America, The Avengers).
I recommend this movie to everyone, and if you end up amazed like me, you can find tons of interesting trivia online. I just spent a couple of hours reading interesting things about this movie and rewinding the movie to find the details I'm reading about.

"Heavy Metal 2000" is a worthy successor to 1981's "Heavy Metal". Made in the style of the original, it has a strong reminiscent of the eighties. Unlike the first one that is an omnibus, this one has only one story, but the story and characters at the level of the first movie. There is a bit less nudity and violence, and the soundtrack, although weaker than the one from the '80s, has several really good tracks, performed by the great names of its time. This Russian short animated film is an adaptation of Stephen King's story "Battleground". The only reason it was not boring for me is that ten minutes is not enough time to get bored. Technically speaking, the movie is very well-done. Interesting animation with an old-school charm, good soundtrack and famous names, such as Wes Anderson, George Clooney, Meryl Streep, Bill Murray, Willem Dafoe and Owen Wilson, led me to watch this film with somewhat high expectations. Audio-visually the movie did not disappoint, but the story itself was really lousy. It is probably pretty good for pre-teen children, but to me, it was quite boring. South Park's authors should be given the Nobel Oscars for Lifetime Achievement. These people are completely nuts. It is the fact that everyday life is an inexhaustible source of inspiration for mockery, but South Park does it better than anyone else. This time they made a parody of "Game of Thrones" and spiced it by ridiculing "The Lord of the Rings", "Star Wars" and other cult franchises, along the way, poking gamers, global corporations, the media and more. Hilarious Eddie Murphy lends his voice to her sidekick, a clumsy little red dragon. The story is interesting, with lots of Disney humor, but also a good message. Essentially, this is "coming of age" and "women empowerment" drama, but shown in a typical Disney way, to the extent that even this girl warrior can be classified among the Disney Princesses. I had the impression that someone forced them to make a "women empowerment" movie, and then they did their best to disguise it as much as possible. This twenty-minute "Ice Age" movie is just using the opportunity of holidays to get a few more dollars based on its former glory. Although the idea is not bad, the cartoon is totally uninteresting. However, with a good screenwriter, the story has the potential to develop into a quality full-length film.

Until an hour ago, I never heard of Jan Svankmajer, and at this moment I still have no idea of who he is and what he did, but after this unforgettable experience I will definitely explore it. This short movie combines live-action with stop-motion animation in a morbidly fascinating way, and while it is quite disgusting and sick, it is at the same time mesmerizing and thought-provoking. I think I figured what the author wanted to say, but I do not want to go into an analysis of the "story" because it is better if you see the film without any knowledge of what awaits you, and then get your own conclusions after your impressions settle. And the impressions are guaranteed to be strong. Take my word when I tell you that this film is worth 15 minutes of your time. It left me speechless in the most positive sense.

Today we took the kid to the movies to see the latest adaptation of the Addams Family, which I love very much. For the sake of the child, we had to watch a version synchronized in Serbian, which itself is quite a nuisance.
To the animated characters, the voices are borrowed by the pretty famous cast, but instead of their, I suppose, at least good, if not great performances, as usual, we got the lousy domestic synchronization. It is sad that we cannot make at least a little effort to act that synchronization properly. So, the acting I cannot judge.
Dialogues and witty replicas ... I don't know if that was well translated or in the rank of usually bad domestic subtitles, and even if they did this part properly, the word games and the original charm are certainly lost in translation, so I can't judge that neither.
The animation is good, although it's also debatable since we watched the movie in 3D, but I didn't particularly like the look of the main characters. They all have those stupid toothpicks for limbs and huge heads, Morticia is not seductive as she should be, they turned Gomez into a fat freak, Pugsley resembles a gargoyle, and Wednesday, Fester and some others can barely pass as human beings. Instead of an eccentric but sympathetic and primarily human family, the Addamses are portrayed as disfigured semi-humans. Only Lurch made a somewhat positive impression with his appearance and manner in which we synchronized him.
And finally the story. I can not say it's bad. It's fun and holds attention. But it is totally unoriginal and has been seen so many times ("Hotel Transylvania", "Edward Scissorhands", "Beauty and the Beast" ...) that even my eight-year-old was like - meh, it's nothing special.
All in all, if you are not a fan of the original series from the sixties and have not watched too many films, you could easily like this, but for me, who has watched thousands upon thousands of movies and the original Addamses were one of my favorite series, this is mediocre at best.

I finally found time to watch the film in its original form, unspoiled by the Serbian dubbing. The acting is incomparably better, and the dialogues are wittier. Also, not irritated by the awful dubbing, I could experience other aspects of the film more objectively. This time it made a much better impression. All in all, the new Addams Family is a rather nice animated film, which is worth watching, although I remain of the opinion that it is not up to the knees of the earlier screen adaptations, and I will not even put it in the same sentence with the original series.

The script is somewhat original, but it essentially delivers the good old story of growing up, of sticking out, of seeking your true self and the need to be accepted and loved. A story of genuine friendship, courage, and true love. Nothing new, but it doesn't make it any less wonderful. The powerful emotion this movie conveys from the start is complemented by good animation, a strong cast that gives voices to cartoon characters (Robin Williams, Brittany Murphy, Hugh Jackman, Nicole Kidman, ...) and a superb soundtrack (John Lennon, Stevie Wonder, Prince, Lionel Richie, ZZ Top, Elvis Presley, Freddie Mercury,...).
The film won an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature Film of the Year and brought Prince the only Golden Globe of his career. But even if all this means nothing to you, can you really resist a movie about Penguins?!

The story of an elderly widower who, after the death of his wife, embarks on an adventure to pursue their shared childhood dream, and learns something about himself and the true values of life. The story is well-written, emotional and laced with humorous moments, but it did not leave a particularly strong impression on me. The animation is good, with an interesting use of color, but nothing breathtaking. Everything in this movie is very good, but not great. Other than two completely unnecessarily cruel scenes (miscarriage and death of the main villain), I have nothing specific to complain about. But the movie just didn't move me. It amused me and is a handy choice if you want to watch something with younger children, but I believe soon I won't remember it at all.

Beautiful animation, which does not skimp on colors, a story that is both fun and emotional and, although twist is somewhat cliche, essentially powerful and edifying. A movie that will entertain the youngest, teach them a little about life, and at the same time, elicit a few tears even from those whose emotions are long since numb. One of the most original films I've ever seen is composed entirely of scenes stolen from other films. Hungarian director György Pálfi has made a universal romantic drama, skillfully and humorously combining clips from several hundred films, so black and white and color scenes, different genres and shooting techniques, actors, locations and epochs, rapidly alternate before our eyes, all followed by nicely blended music, also borrowed from other films and series. Clips were reportedly downloaded from torrent sites and, in order to avoid copyright lawsuits, the film was published as educational material by the Hungarian University of Film and Theater. It may seem confusing and even unwatchable at first, but do not let it deter you, because you will get used to it very quickly and after a few minutes you will no longer need extra concentration. The idea is ingenious, a realization hypnotizing, and I am afraid to even speculate how extensive his knowledge of world cinema is, as well as how much time and patience it took to assemble and edit this madness. Even if we disregard all the other qualities, the effort itself deserves a maximum rating. Bravo!

I sincerely hope that the insistence on this sentence is a mockery and not a tribute to the life-coach craze. There is also unavoidable environmental propaganda, also taken from the first film. In fact, the whole movie gives the impression of recycling the first one. Talented animators and high budgets allow studios to endlessly string sequels to popular films that, at first glance, seem fantastic. The movie is more diverse and visually perhaps even better than the first, with slightly weaker but still excellent music, a superb cast, and decent humor, but it's somehow hollow. It lacks the emotional strength by which the first one took me out of my shoes. I have nothing specific to complain about, but it left me quite indifferent. Judging by my eight-year-old, the film is a complete hit for the youngest, but from my perspective, this is, although somewhat entertaining to watch and with a couple of witty jokes, a totally mediocre clichéd story translated into a barely mediocre film. The Wolf is played by Dragan Jovanovic, Little Red Riding Hood by Dejan Matic, and Rade Markovic is responsible for the script, directing, and all other roles. Slightly retarded spoof of slang and primitivism of the nineties in Belgrade, with an animated background and cheap effects, which was hilarious to me twenty years ago, but now has only nostalgic value, and if it lasted more than half an hour I probably wouldn't have the nerve to rewatch it in its entirety.

The sequel to "Madagascar" (2005) is by no means inferior to the original, and maybe even surpasses it. The reason probably lies in the fact that the same team made both films. Alex, Marty, Melman, and Gloria, accompanied by the inevitable penguins, cross from Madagascar to Africa and join their species with a lot of vicissitudes and healthy humor. "Escape 2 Africa" is full of witty remarks, puns, and references to cult movies and pop culture in general. It relies largely on "The Lion King," but I've also noticed allusions to "West Side Story," "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly," "Planet of the Apes," "Airplane," Indiana Jones, "Twilight Zone" and many others. The film is criticized for not being true to the original Beatrix Potter story on which it is based. I didn't read it, so I approached the film without prejudice. It is a children's feature film with CGI animals, without a particularly good story and characterization, but visually beautifully done, infinitely cute and so witty and fun that I enjoyed it perhaps more than the kids. Pixar proves its creativity once again. Attempt not so much to explain the essence of life, as to encourage us not to forget it. The story is deep enough not to be just cheap entertainment, but carefully balanced to not go in pretentiousness or in vain philosophizing. Funny just enough to be entertaining without making the point meaningless. Emotional as much as it needs to warm the heart without causing tears. Visually imaginative and sprinkled with jazz music, this cartoon is a feast for the senses for all generations. Its only drawback is that at times it seems a bit hasty. (there are spoilers, but I guess everyone watched this ...)
The first half of the film is a romanticized depiction of playful animals in the forest, accompanied by classical music and almost ballet choreography, similar to the two years older "Fantasy". Of course, there are also original songs, a trademark of every Disney cartoon. For today's generations, this long introduction, during which almost nothing happens, can be overly stretched and boring, and the animation from this perspective does not leave a special impression, although the main characters are unbelievably cute. But that is the style of that time and, when you take into account that Disney movies were then drawn by hand, frame by frame, from that perspective, the result leaves you breathless.
What follows is an extremely dark, depressing part of the film, which briefly leaves the cheerful colorfulness we have enjoyed so far, to show us the other side of the coin. Winter is coming, a cruel period of struggle for survival. As if food shortages are not a sufficient problem for our forest friends, there are also hunters who take away Bambi's mom. "Man was in the forest." This one sentence should be enough to embarrass us because of all our arrogance towards nature. However, nature is much bigger than us, and life goes on.
The father, the prince of the forest, comes for Bambi and soon the film returns to the songful colorful spring. Nature is waking up and love is in the air. To some, their favorite scene is Bambi on the ice, for others, it is when he plays with a little doe, but for me, Owl's interpretation of love is without competition. We still have a scene of two young deer dancing in the fight for a female, as well as another, rather tense rush of human destructiveness, but this is still a Disney movie and a happy ending is inevitable. Bambi saves Feline and the cycle of nature continues.
See this classic animated film, and you will enjoy a little more than an hour of real Disney, still uncorrupted by CGI and political trends that newer releases obey. (Although racial diversity can be found here as well, since the main characters are a deer, a rabbit, and a skunk; the beginnings of feminism, because all three females took the first step in relationships; and I think that the skunk is a latent homosexual.) Personally, I will do my best for my child to grow up on this and similar works of art, instead of ... (not to express myself) ... presented by today's children's TV programs.

"Raya and the Last Dragon" takes place in the fictional land of Kumandra, inspired by Southeast Asia. This kingdom consists of five united tribes, living in harmony with dragons whose magic brings them prosperity.
500 years ago, Kumandra was overwhelmed by demonic beings who turn everything they touch into stone. The dragons defeated the demons with joint magic, but they were all petrified in the process. Or almost all ...
People were saved, but in the absence of dragons, human distrustful and greedy nature came to the fore and Kumandra was divided into five smaller countries in a quarrel with each other. A parallel can be drawn with Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, and Indonesia, as inspirations for these newly formed states.
The magic crystal with which the dragons defeated the demons is kept in the Heart, at the site of the decisive battle. The remaining four tribes, Spine, Talon, Tail, and Fang, believe that the Heart is the most prosperous because of the possession of this magical artifact, and they are all trying to reach it.
When the ruler of the Heart gathers representatives of all the tribes, in an attempt to reunite Kumandra, the negotiations turn into a battle for the crystal and it ends up shattered. The demons are returning to Kumandra, but now there are no more dragons.
Raya, the princess of the Heart, sets out in search of the last dragon, in order to save the world together. During her adventure, she gathers a group of diverse and quite interesting characters, who guarantee good fun.
The animation is great and the visual aspect of this post-apocalyptic fairytale adventure is the main trump card of the film. Everything else is a classic Disney cliché.
In the last century, Disney movies have been as diverse as possible and have brought us different characters in different life situations, with at least somewhat different teachings. And then the new millennium took the helm and I have the impression that most of the newer Disney cartoons are essentially the same story with variations on the theme.
The Disney princess is destined for one thing, but she wants another. She makes a mistake, puts everything in danger, but then she matures and grows up, takes matters into her own hands, and steadfastly saves things. A couple of supporting characters, mostly on the same mold, help her in that, at least one of which must be an animal. And of course, in line with current trends, there is more girl empowerment, racial and religious diversity, and even sexual diversity can be mixed in, although not so obvious (Raya and Namaari?).
No more of that natural authentic atmosphere, emotion, and charm that adorned Disney movies of the last century. I don't remember the last time a Disney work brought me to tears. Now it all comes down to a visual spectacle and stenciled stories and messages. Beautiful, but quite shallow. "Raya and the Last Dragon" is no exception.
If you don't mind the lack of essential originality and quality and you are just looking for an opportunity to rest your brain, while enjoying fireworks of colors and shapes with your child, you are in the right place. If you are looking for something more, stick to Disney's achievements from the years starting with 19.
7/10 - CreatorThomas SzaboHélène GiraudStarsKeith FergusonNeicScott WhyteAlthough children aren't entomologists, when they take a trip to the country and start roaming through fields and meadows, they do spend an incredible amount of time observing insects. Unlike grownup specialists, our knee-high observers with scabby knees have a peculiar perception of these tiny creatures, readily imagining them in utterly weird, surrealistic situations. Such an offbeat, and often comic vision provides the basis for how MINUSCULE will be showing insects in their day-to-day existence, "at grassroots level," as if we were right there with them. So forget everything you've ever learned about segmented, winged or wingless little creatures, because you're about to discover bug reality. MINUSCULE revolves around the day-to-day existence of insects. Although the series calls to mind a wildlife documentary, it's a documentary in which the insects are presented in burlesque situations, with a fair amount of philosophical contemplation thrown in. You might call it a cross between Tex Avery and Microcosmos, or grassroots slapstick. Or a docu-cartoon series. And how am I supposed to kill bugs from now on?!
Minuscule in French means tiny, which applies to both the format and the content of this beautiful animated series. The titles of the episodes in English are written in small initial letters, which is another meaning of the word minuscule.
Each episode brings us a separate story about insects (sometimes some other tiny creatures, such as spiders and snails) lasting about five minutes. It's just amazing what can fit in such a short time.
Insects are visually presented quite realistically, but the stories themselves are caricatured versions of their way of life, very wittily used to entertain and teach us at the same time. There is no dialogue in the series, but the stories are told with pictures and very impressive use of sound effects.
Bright colors, silly sound effects, and surreal situations are also accessible to small children, while adults can find a certain philosophical depth in these stories. And the strongest asset of the series is a positive atmosphere, full of life's joy that is inexorably transmitted to the viewer.
Ladybug and grasshopper are quite villains, but you just can't help but like them and laugh at their petty mischief. And when you see an unfortunate spider in the role of a victim, you will hesitate to slap it with a slipper next time you see one. If the child in you is not completely gone, there is no chance that "Minuscule" will not improve your mood.
According to IMDb, the series consists of 175 episodes, but the DVD release contains 6 discs with 13 episodes each, which is not even half of the total number, and I did not manage to find much more on YouTube either. But as the episodes bring separate stories, not being all in number won't diminish your experience.

Visually, if you don't have high expectations, the animation is quite acceptable, even cute, but it's not all about the picture. The story is based on "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs", with touches of many other fairy tales, and the way the authors have twisted things seems promising. Unfortunately, the screenplay is amateurishly written and delivers a promising premise in the form of a total mishmash.
Already in the first couple of minutes, I thought that "Red Shoes and the Seven Dwarfs" was a rip-off of "Shrek", and by the end, it became more and more obvious and irritating. And the last nail in the coffin of this bad rip-off is the disastrous soundtrack, made of nonsensical pop songs, unfitting to the film.
If your kids haven't seen "Shrek", they might like this South Korean creation, but if you want to see the movie too, even the worst sequels of "Shrek" are a better choice than this mess.

"Tom and Jerry" is a feature-length film that combines live-action and animation, based on the original short cartoons by Hanna and Barbera and inspired by the cult movie from 1988, "Who Framed Roger Rabbit". The screenplay is a collection of clichés without an iota of originality, but that doesn't make this movie bad, because how can a reprise of the legendary Tom and Jerry slapstick gags be bad. Here, Chloe is given the type of role that suits her perfectly, and Tom and Jerry, supported by William Hanna's archive audio recordings, return to the screen in full glory, not at all behind their performances from the mid-twentieth century. All in all, nothing new and spectacular, but a decently done tribute to Hana and Barbera, forgettable, but also nostalgically pleasant and satisfyingly entertaining.

In a retro-futuristic world, a young knight is accused of a crime he did not commit. While his recent colleagues are chasing him, with the help of an unusual "teenager" he tries to clear his name and save the kingdom along the way.
Interesting animation, likable characters, a story that combines modern trends with traditional fairy tales, quite a good choice of music, and dialogues that vary from slightly vulgar humor, through somewhat philosophical, to deeply emotional. It is Netflix, so the strong PC and LGBT note is not surprising, but here it is not unpleasantly aggressive, but quite naturally blended. Ok, I didn't really like the final kiss, but I guess this time it's more me than that it's inappropriate for the story.
"Nimona" is not a masterpiece of an animated film and I doubt it will ever become a classic, but who wouldn't be curious about a medieval-futuristic, SF-mythological revisionist-traditional fairy tale... Worth watching.

Ten years after the phenomenal "The Doomstar Requiem" comes the sequel "Army of the Doomstar", this time as a feature-length animated film. All the technical aspects of the series we loved are here again, everything is apparently the same as it was, except for the most important - humor. Not that this isn't hilariously funny, but it's not even mildly entertaining. One big nothing dragged out for almost an hour and a half, with characters rendered pathetic, rare and failed attempts at humor, and without a single catchy track. Not only is there nothing memorable, but it is so boring that I did not manage to watch it all at once. Shame.
5/10 - DirectorSylvain ChometStarsMichèle CaucheteuxJean-Claude DondaMichel RobinWhen her grandson is kidnapped during the Tour de France, Madame Souza and her beloved pooch Bruno team up with the Belleville Sisters--an aged song-and-dance team from the days of Fred Astaire--to rescue him."It's over, Grandma"
An orphan who lives with his grandmother grows up to be a cyclist who, with that same grandmother as his coach, goes on the Tour de France. There he is kidnapped, and the grandmother in search of him arrives in America where, with the help of a faithful dog and a trio of elderly singers, she performs a crazy rescue mission.
The film stands out at first sight with its retro surreal animation, bizarre humor, and dark atmosphere. It's extremely ugly in a nostalgically overwhelming way. Also, it is almost completely dialogue-free, accompanied by interesting music. I also liked the tributes to Django Reinhardt, Charles Chaplin, Josephine Baker, and Fred Astaire, as well as the iconic Citroën 2CV. There are more that I won't list now, and I probably didn't even notice many of them. But that's where the praise ends.
Although there are several humorous, entertaining, and touching moments, they are dissolved in 80 minutes of a linear, simple story about two-dimensional and unimpressive characters, which for the most part balances on the edge of boring. The whole movie is one big caricature, promising at the beginning, but then it continues to repeat itself endlessly and soon stops holding attention.
