- CreatorChris CarterStarsDavid DuchovnyGillian AndersonMitch PileggiTwo F.B.I. Agents, Fox Mulder the believer and Dana Scully the skeptic, investigate the strange and unexplained, while hidden forces work to impede their efforts. One of the longest running crime shows (although not really 'crime' they were FBI so let's file under crime) Mulder and Scully were the definitive and in my opinion the number one pairing. Although in later series other actors were occasionally brought in to replace either Mulder or Scully, they still remain the enduring problem solving duo.
- CreatorJohn HawkesworthStarsJeremy BrettDavid BurkeRosalie WilliamsSherlock Holmes and Dr Watson solve the mysteries of copper beeches, a Greek interpreter, the Norwood builder, a resident patient, the red-headed league, and one final problem.Several actors played Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson over many decades but here in the UK the definitive and best actor to play the role was Jeremy Brett. The UK TV company Granada Television took the bold step of televising every Sherlock Holmes story written by Edinburgh born Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, starting in 1984 with 13 episodes entitled 'The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes'. David Burke played Dr John Watson in this first series but for the remainder of the franchise he was replaced by Edward Hardwicke. Three further series' followed - 'The Return of Sherlock Holmes', 'The Case-book of Sherlock Holmes' and 'The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes'. Sadly Jeremy Brett died in 1995 before the final series could be completed and as a consequence the plan to complete the writings of Conan Doyle ended with just six completed episodes of the 'The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes'.
- CreatorRene BalcerDick WolfStarsKathryn ErbeVincent D'OnofrioJamey SheridanThis series focuses on the NYPD's Major Case Squad, a force of detectives who investigate high-profile cases, while also showing parts of the crime from the perpetrator's point of view.Goren and Eames (Vincent D'Onofrio and Kathryn Erbe) are right up there as one of the best cop partners. Goren's quirky style of crime scene interpretation and interrogation methods (the ever present huge folder he carried into interrogation rooms) paired with Eames' quiet and almost solemn and earnest application of her take on things made this a very enjoyable programme to watch.
- CreatorJane EspensonD. Brent MoteStarsEddie McClintockJoanne KellySaul RubinekPete and Myka, U.S Secret Service agents, are deployed in South Dakota's Warehouse 13 with a new assignment from an authority above and outside the government.Pete Lattimer and Myka Bering (Eddie McLintock and Joanne Kelly) had a comical but symbiotic relationship which grew in stature throughout the series. Lattimer's sometime idiotic and childish behaviour often frustrated Bering to the point where she constantly had to chide him like a naughty schoolboy. At times you almost expected her to give him a slap on the head to bring him into line.
- CreatorBruno HellerStarsSimon BakerRobin TunneyTim KangA famous "psychic" outs himself as a fake, and starts working as a consultant for the California Bureau of Investigation so he can find "Red John", the madman who killed his wife and daughter.Simon Baker and Robyn Tunney as Patrick Jane and Teresa Lisbon were the perfect foil for each other. Jane's often unorthodox and offbeat methods would frequently leave Lisbon frustrated and confused to the point where she often resorted to use her regular throwaway phrase to anyone in earshot 'he does this a lot'.
- CreatorMaureen JenningsCal CoonsAlexandra ZarownyStarsYannick BissonHelene JoyThomas CraigIn the 1890s, William Murdoch uses radical forensic techniques for the time, including fingerprinting and trace evidence, to solve some of the city's most gruesome murders. In this easy on the eye Canadian crime show set in the late Victorian era, Detective William Murdoch (Yannick Bisson) working with pathologist Dr Julia Ogden (Helene Joy) would use radical and new techniques to bring criminals to justice. However he often had to put up with his bullish Inspector Thomas Brackenreid's occasional stubborn and pigheaded interference before finally solving his crime.
- CreatorHart HansonStarsEmily DeschanelDavid BoreanazMichaela ConlinF.B.I. Special Agent Seeley Booth teams up with the Jeffersonian's top anthropologist, Dr. Temperance Brennan, to investigate cases where all that's left of the victims are their bones.Just like Pete Lattimer in Warehouse 13, FBI agent Seeley Booth (David Boreanaz) could often behave almost child like and idiotic but along with the ever calm and intelligently studious but brilliant and socially inept forensic anthropologist Dr Temperance Brennan (Emily Deschanel) (alongside the other Jeffersonian staff) worked well together to solve crimes.
- StarsWilliam SimonsDerek FowldsTricia PenroseThe 1960s lives and adventures of the police constabulary, medical staff, and residents of Ashfordly and Aidensfield.Although this UK series ran from 1992 to 2009 and ran for 18 series, the plot was permanently fixed in the late sixties. Series 1 starred constable Nick Rowan (Nick Berry) as the local rural beat cop set in rural Yorkshire with his sergeant Oscar Blaketon (Derek Fowlds) in charge. Although it ran to 2009 and the characters changed over the years the background music was always contemporary songs from the late 1960s.
- StarsDavid JasonBruce AlexanderJohn LyonsDI Jack Frost is an unconventional policeman with sympathy for the underdog and an instinct for moral justice. Sloppy, disorganized, and disrespectful, he attracts trouble like a magnet.A UK series which ran from 1992 to 2010 Inspector Jack Frost (David Jason) was an unconventional policeman with sympathy for the underdog and an instinct for moral justice. Sloppy, disorganized and disrespectful, he attracts trouble like a magnet. He never had the same partner (sergeant) throughout the entire series although some recurring characters played his sergeant on more than one occasion. By 2010 Jason was 70 years old and it was decided that he was too old to play a police detective so presumably on that basis the franchise was finally cancelled.
- CreatorIan Kennedy MartinStarsJohn ThawDennis WatermanGarfield MorganJack Regan and George Carter are hard-edged detectives in the Flying Squad of London's Metropolitan Police. They pursue villains by methods which are underhanded and often illegal, frequently violent and - more often than not - successful. This early 1970s UK police drama starred John Thaw (Detective Inspector Jack Regan) and Dennis Waterman (Detective Sergeant George Carter) and depicted the rough and brutal tactics employed by members of London's crime busting 'Flying Squad' (the title name was derived from rhyming slang Sweeney Todd - Flying Squad). In later years John Thaw would be best remembered for the cultured and intelligent Oxford detective series 'Morse'.
