- DirectorLeVar BurtonStarsKatey SagalRyan MerrimanKatie VoldingA teenager wins a fully-automated dream house in a competition, but soon the computer controlling it begins to take over and everything gets out of control. Then teenage Ben must calm the computer named PAT.I don't remember much about this anymore, but it was my favorite movie for quite some time. Not sure if it holds up now, but it holds a special place in my heart
- DirectorPaul HoenStarsTaylor BallOrlando BrownReiley McClendonEddie loves baseball. His dad's the coach, his best friends are his teammates. But will he strike out with them all if he trades his glove for an oven mitt? This was also up there in favorite movies of mine when I was younger. I don't remember much about it either, but it got me into cooking for about two days before I stopped, so that deserves a shoutout
- DirectorDuwayne DunhamStarsDebbie ReynoldsKimberly J. BrownJudith HoagWhen a young girl living with her secret witch mother learns she too is a witch, she must help her witch grandmother save Halloweentown from evil forces. This arguably deserves the number one spot (I haven't seen Smart House or Eddie's in a longgg time), but this holds up even today. Whimsical and fun while also having an entertaining plot, good for kids and adults alike
- DirectorMary LambertStarsKimberly J. BrownJudith HoagDaniel KountzA young witch and her grandmother work together to foil the plans of a wicked warlock's son before he can use powerful spells to create chaos in the world. This was also a great time; this was the one with the colors leaving Halloweentown I believe, and it was fun to see everyone get back to their lively selves at the end. Kalabar made a good villain, though he was fairly one dimensional from what I remember
- DirectorMark A.Z. DippéStarsKimberly J. BrownDebbie ReynoldsJudith HoagA girl in a magical world bets her family's magic that nothing bad will happen when kids from Halloweentown attend high school in the mortal realm.Papa recorded this on VHS for us to watch it, definitely a classic, though the introduction of so many new characters was a bit off-putting. Still a good time though
- DirectorSteve LoterStarsChristy Carlson RomanoWill FriedleNancy CartwrightThe new school year starts off terrible for Kim. In her ordinary life her best friend is moving away, and in her heroic crime-fighting life, three of the most notorious villains in her world plan to use time travel as a weapon against her. This had a fantastic game on Disney Channel's website to go with it, and the movie got me back into the show for a bit, though I admittedly still haven't seen most of the episodes. I want to do that some day
- DirectorBruce W. SmithStarsTommy DavidsonKyla PrattPaula Jai ParkerPenny and her family are lured on an all expenses paid vacation where a mad scientist captures them, refusing to let them go because Oscar won't reveal his one of his secret Proud Snacks formulas. Also had a fun game online; I didn't really like the peanut people, but the movie itself was entertaining
- DirectorJeffrey HornadayStarsRoss LynchMaia MitchellGracie GillamTwo surfing lovers, whose doomed relationship is nearing to a close, find themselves swept into a dimension-traversing wave that sends them into a beach movie musical in the 60's.The soundtrack for this was pretty great, and even though I definitely wasn't in the target age group, it was still an entertaining time. The right amount of self-aware and cheesy made it enjoyable
- DirectorPaul HoenStarsRyan MerrimanHenry GibsonAlexis LopezA teenager must battle for a gold charm to keep his family from being controlled by an evil leprechaun.I only liked this so much because the lead actor was also in Smart House; I don't remember much of the actual movie itself
- DirectorPaul HoenStarsClara BryantShia LaBeoufMare WinninghamTrudy Walker hated her life. She thought it was totally messed up until she found out about a contest that could change everything..I barely remember this at all, but Shia LaBeouf did a great job, and the older sister was a good casting choice as well
- DirectorRamón MenéndezStarsCamille GuatyAmerica FerreraJhoanna FloresA school dance team get a new lease of life thanks to a teacher who lets them in on the secret of Latin rhythms for a big competition.A more kid-friendly version of Bring It On, it was a fun time
- DirectorPatricia RiggenStarsBridgit MendlerAdam HicksHayley KiyokoFive high school kids, Olivia, Wendall, Stella, Charlie, and Mo, meet in detention and start a band based on the lemonade vending machine outside the detention room.Dealt with some serious themes, which was pretty cool for a DCOM; the cast and soundtrack were nice too
- DirectorPaul HoenStarsCorbin BleuKeke PalmerDavid ReiversA teenager is pressured by his father to become a boxer - but a local girl introduces him to the very different sport of rope-jumping.This was entertaining because it's the only competitive jump rope movie I've ever seen. Bleu and Palmer did a nice job
- DirectorPaul HoenStarsTyler James WilliamsCoco JonesTrevor JacksonA teenage rapper must use his musical talent to battle his nemesis and win the girl of his dreams. This was entertaining, but I don't remember much about it. The raps were decent but not very enticing
- DirectorGreg BeemanStarsErik von DettenSam HorriganChristina VidalAndy "Brink" Brinker and his in-line skating crew--Peter, Jordy, and Gabriella--who call themselves "Soul-Skaters" (which means they skate for the fun of it, and not for the money), clash with a group of sponsored skaters, Team X-Bladz--led by Val--with whom they attend high school in southern California. When Brink discovers that his family is in financial trouble, he goes against his parents' and friends' wishes and joins Team X-Bladz. Will he be able to pull off this double life?I remember really liking this, but I haven't seen it in over a decade so I can't rank it much higher on principle
- DirectorDuwayne DunhamStarsAly MichalkaJohnny PacarFrank LangellaA budding producer searches for the country's best young magician.I liked the leads in this
- DirectorMatthew DiamondStarsDemi LovatoJoe JonasMeaghan MartinAt a music camp for gifted teens, a popular teen idol overhears a girl singing and sets out to find who the talented voice belongs to. What he doesn't know is that the girl is actually a camp kitchen worker with a fear of being heard.Really not a great movie, but it was entertaining at the time
Rewatched in July of 2018, and while it definitely does NOT hold up (overly cheesy, etc.), its songs are good for the nostalgia factor, and its predictable plot is nonetheless somewhat charming - DirectorSean McNamaraStarsShia LaBeoufChristy Carlson RomanoDonna PescowDream vacation Dream on! Ren, Louis, and the entire Stevens family battle ferocious squirrels, angry natives and one another on the adventure of a lifetime.I never really watched the show, but the movie was solid
- DirectorLev L. SpiroStarsSelena GomezDavid HenrieJake T. AustinA young wizard conjures a spell that puts her family in jeopardy. It was odd to see tihs after I had stopped watching the show, but it was decent
- DirectorSean McNamaraStarsCole SprouseDylan SprouseBrenda SongA doctor approaches Zack and Cody and tells them that they would be ideal for the Gemini Project, a massive project studying the effects of twins.Decent, but nothing special, especially compared to the first show
- DirectorFrancine McDougallStarsJordan DangerWhitney SloanCristine RoseA teenager who dreams of becoming a champion ice-skater discovers that a top Russian instructor is working at a nearby private school.Don't remember much except the girl power
- DirectorPaul HoenStarsKay PanabakerDanielle PanabakerAlexandra KrosneyA shy, retiring high-school student develops a peculiar alter-ego that changes her life forever.Liked the Panabakers in this, but I don't remember much else
- DirectorMark A.Z. DippéStarsRaviv UllmanLeah PipesSpencer RedfordA teen uses a holograph to create a pop star for his friend's band.A fairly inventive premise for a DCOM but overall mediocre from what I remember
Written 4/8/19 - DirectorJeffrey HornadayStarsRoss LynchMaia MitchellGracie GillamModern day teens Mack and Brady get a real world visit from Lela, Tanner, Butchy, and other surfer and biker pals from the beach party film within a film, Wet Side Story.Developed a few of the side characters more, but it didn't seem as fun as the first one; the drama was forced and the soundtrack didn't compare well
- DirectorJohn LaingStarsBrenda SongShin KoyamadaSusan ChuangA Californian teenager learns that she is the reincarnation of a legendary female warrior destined to protect the world.Only liked it for Brenda Song
- DirectorSavage Steve HollandStarsDanielle PanabakerBrenda SongAmanda ShawBored with her suburban life, teenage Brittany finds excitement when her phone is switched with the phone of Jordan Cahill, only THE top teen pop singer, who has come to her town to make a music video.I barely remember this but it had an all-star DCOM cast. Entertaining but I doubt it would hold up
Written 4/8/19 - DirectorLev L. SpiroStarsJason DolleyLuke BenwardNicholas BraunA comedy/sci-fi/adventure about three high school kids who invent a 10 minute time machine to spare others just like them from the humiliation they've endured.I liked Jason Dolly and the time travel aspect
- DirectorStuart GillardStarsJason DolleyMitchel MussoTiffany ThorntonWhen Cleatus can't play the school mascot, Pete has to secretly do the job.Another good time for Jason Dolly, but not much else
- DirectorTim FywellStarsMichelle TrachtenbergKim CattrallTrevor BlumasWith the help of her coach, her mom, and the boy who drives the Zamboni machine, nothing can stop Casey (Trachtenberg) from realizing her dream to be a champion figure skater.Pretty sure this was the first time I saw the iconic but cliched line: "You're giving up your dream!" "No, Mom, I'm giving up YOUR dream."
Written 4/8/19 - DirectorPaul SchneiderStarsMichael ShulmanErika ChristensenAdam WylieA teen is visited by aliens after he broadcasts a message into space.I had been wanting to watch this since I was a child. I saw one ad break during some Disney Halloween promo with this included in a montage, but we did not have a DVR at the time and I could never find this actually airing, so it was a small personal quest to finally watch it when I saw it on Disney+. I was impressed by the practical effects despite the low-budget feel, and I liked seeing an early Erika Christensen role. Mike Pillsbury was an insanely annoying protagonist, and the writing was filled with cliches and cheesiness. The smarmy aliens actually had some amusing commentary about fame vultures, but otherwise I thought this was pretty average unfortunately.
Watched April 29, 2024 - DirectorPaul HoenStarsAdrienne HoughtonSabrina BryanKiely WilliamsThe girl group travel to India to star in a Bollywood movie - but end up competing for the same part.It wasn't bad, but it didn't hold up without Raven
- DirectorDavid JacksonStarsSara PaxtonJudith HoagLucas GrabeelMarnie and Dylan are going to follow their dreams to go to college, at Halloweentown University, which is also known as Witch University. The casting on this was terrible; it lost all the charm of the original trilogy.
- DirectorKenny OrtegaStarsRaven-SymonéAdrienne HoughtonSabrina BryanThe girl group return for more adventures, this time traveling to Spain to take part in a music festival.I don't remember much of this, but it was very entertaining as far as I know. I liked it the most out of the three
- DirectorOz ScottStarsRaven-SymonéAdrienne HoughtonKiely WilliamsFour teens aim to take the world by storm with their music.Led to the much better second film, so I can't knock it much
- DirectorBlair TreuStarsTaylor HandleyCorinne BohrerCaitlin WachsA young man working at a cinema on a special premiere night discovers that the films being shown are full of strange and eerie occurrences.I completely forgot I watched this until I heard the name. I remember nothing about it other than finding it entertaining at the time
- DirectorMaggie GreenwaldStarsLindsay LohanBug HallIan GomezA wealthy student with too much fashion sense, her equally rich friends, and her rival/superior from the school paper work together to solve the case when their teacher goes missing.Despite Lohan and the mystery premise, I didn't like this much at all
Written 4/8/19 - DirectorCharles HaidStarsKyle MasseyKay PanabakerMitchel MussoCalvin Wheeler is a scheming 13-year-old boy with everything going for him, except for an original issue of his precious comic book collection. When a prized show-dog chases him down while skateboarding one day, his owner inadvertently convinces him to adopt and train a dog of his own. However the only one available, is an uncouth stray Labrador/St. Bernard-mix named Tyko from a local animal shelter, who proves to be more than anybody can handle.A decent film for Kyle Massey but the villain was weak and the contest seemed too long from what I remember
Written 4/8/19 - DirectorFrancine McDougallStarsAly MichalkaAJ MichalkaJack ColemanThe exasperated father of two wealthy teens forces them to work at the family business to learn how to be responsible. When company funds go missing, it's up to the girls to save the day.Only good to see the Michalka sisters together in action. Very bland and banking on the popularity of "The Simple Life"
Written 4/8/19 - DirectorPaul HoenStarsDemi LovatoJoe JonasNick JonasMitchie is back with her friends at Camp Rock, ready to perform music, dance and have a good time. Her "boyfriend" is there as well. A new camp has opened across the lake, creating an atmosphere of competition or feud. This ruined Tess' character arc set up in the previous film and overall was pretty bad. The romantic subplots weren't executed very well and, despite its intense choreography, the songs themselves were markedly weaker than the first film
Watched August 4th, 2018 with family - DirectorKenneth JohnsonStarsKirsten StormsRaven-SymonéBob BancroftAn inquisitive teenager pries into suspected dodgy dealings on her space station home - and ends up being sent down to Earth.A lot of other people remember this, but it wasn't particularly noteworthy for me
- DirectorEric BrossStarsBrandon BakerJake T. AustinCary-Hiroyuki TagawaJohnny Kapahala, a teen snowboarding champion from Vermont, returns to Oahu, Hawaii for the wedding of his hero--his grandfather, local surf legend Johnny Tsunami--and to catch a few famous Kauai waves. When Johnny arrives, he meets his new family including "Uncle Chris", his new stepgrandmother's 12-year-old son, who resents the upcoming marriage and whose only interest is to join a mountain-boarding crew led by a teenage bully. When Johnny's grandfather and his new wife open a surf shop that also caters to mountain boarders, they are soon embroiled in a turf war with a rival shop-owner who wants to shut down their business. Chris' antics cause complications for the store-opening and the wedding, but eventually he reaches out to Johnny, who helps him find his place within the new family and settle the dueling sports-shops' turf war.I liked that this highlighted a lesser known sport but it was only all right
Written 4/8/19 - DirectorSteve BoyumStarsCary-Hiroyuki TagawaBrandon BakerMary Page KellerA Hawaiian teenage surfer shows off his skills when he takes to the snow slopes in Vermont.A cool movie for surfing but other than that, nothing of note
Written 4/8/19 - DirectorStuart GillardStarsTia MowryTamera Mowry-HousleyKristen WilsonTwin witches who were separated at birth and were adopted by two different families meet on their 21st birthday and must use their powers to save the world in which they were born, where their birth mother still lives. Not only does it have one of the most atrocious movie posters of all time, the movie itself was largely fluff
Written 4/8/19 - DirectorStuart GillardStarsTia MowryTamera Mowry-HousleyKristen WilsonAfter using their powers to battle the forces of darkness, the sisters settle down to lead normal lives. However, the discovery that their biological father may not be dead, but residing in New York, causes confusion for the pair. Not sure why this even received a sequel. I suppose I liked seeing the Mowry sisters, but Sister, Sister satisfied that itch infinitely more
