- DirectorVishal BhardwajStarsAjay DevgnKareena KapoorSaif Ali KhanA politically-minded enforcer's misguided trust in his lieutenant leads him to suspect his wife of infidelity in this adaptation of Shakespeare's 'Othello'.Based on "Othello" from William Shakespeare
Excellent work done by Vishal Bhardwaj. Othello is shown in rural UP/MP. Shows how the fear and insecurities are universal and can be transferred to different time and country. Saif Ali gave the most awesome performance and stole the show in my opinion. - DirectorVishal BhardwajStarsIrrfan KhanTabuPankaj KapurThe intrigue of the Shakespearean tragedy 'Macbeth' is transposed to the Mumbai underworld.Based on "Macbeth" from William Shakespeare
Again an excellent movie made by Vishal Bhardwaj. It felt that Bard himself came and adapted his play to modern day Bombay. - DirectorGulzarStarsSanjeev KumarMoushumi ChatterjeeDeven VermaBased on Shakespeare's 'A Comedy of Errors', this is a story of identical twins (2 pairs) and mistaken identities.Based on "Comedy of Errors" from William Shakespeare
One of my all time favorite comedies. I think the movie was only loosely adapted. I read original work long time ago so can't be too sure. Both the original and adaptation were great! - DirectorDebu SenStarsKishore KumarAsit Kumar SenSurekhaA man and his assistant go on a business trip, which results in a comedy of errors.Based on "Comedy of Errors" from William Shakespeare
This is older and lesser know movie based on "Comedy of Errors" I had seen this movie on doordarshan and remember it to be fun. This is not as well known as Angoor made later by Gulzaar. - DirectorAnurag KashyapStarsAbhay DeolMahie GillKalki KoechlinAfter breaking up with his childhood sweetheart, a young man finds solace in drugs. Meanwhile, a teenage girl is caught in the world of prostitution. Will they be destroyed, or will they find redemption?Based on Bengali Romance novel "Devdas" by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay
Sarat Babu apparently wrote this novel when he was only seventeen. I haven't read the original novel but have what a work! Atleast four Hindi movies have been made on this and IMHO "Dev D" is the best. Anurag Kashyap transformed Bengal into Punjab and Calcutta into Delhi. Excellent work done by Abhay Deol, Mahi Gill and Kalki Koechlin. - DirectorSanjay Leela BhansaliStarsShah Rukh KhanMadhuri DixitAishwarya Rai BachchanAfter his wealthy family prohibits him from marrying the woman he is in love with, Devdas Mukherjee's life spirals further and further out of control as he takes up alcohol and a life of vice to numb the pain.Based on Bengali Romance novel "Devdas" by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay
This was the mega strarrer movie based on Devdas. Movie did well for Aishwarya Rai who acted as Paro and did that with aplomb. Shahrukh Khan didn't do justice to Devdas and Madhuri didn't really sparkle as Chandramukhi. Overall I was disappointed by this version. - DirectorBimal RoyStarsDilip KumarSuchitra SenVyjayanthimalaThe scion of a wealthy landowner family turns to alcohol and self-pity and slowly self-destructs after class differences force him to break off his relationship with his childhood sweetheart.Based on Bengali Romance novel "Devdas" by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay
This was the Dilip Kumar starrer. I have only seen snippets of it. This movie in some ways cemented Dilip Kumar as the tragedy king. Before my time so can't comment much on this. - DirectorP.C. BaruaStarsK.L. SaigalA.H. ShorePahadi SanyalDevdas (Saigal/Barua), son of a zamindar, and Parvati (aka Paro)(Jamuna), his poor neighbour's daughter, are childhood sweethearts. Status and caste differences prevent their marriage and Devdas is sent to Calcutta while Paro is married off to an aged but rich widower. In Calcutta the hero meets the prostitute Chandramukhi (Rajkumari/Chandrabati Devi) but remorse drives him to alcohol and (after a long train journey in which he attempts to run away from himself) he comes to die in front of his true love's house.Based on Bengali Romance novel "Devdas" by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay
This was the original Hindi movie based on the novel. Starring K L Saigal and Jamuna. I haven't seen this movie but mentioning it here to complete the saga. - DirectorRam Gopal VarmaStarsAmitabh BachchanAbhishek BachchanKay Kay MenonSubhash Nagre runs a parallel government in the city where he has a cult following. When his enemies plot to murder him, his son takes charge and stands up against them.Based on "Godfather" by Mario Puzo.
Somewhat loosely adapted on Godfather. Very well done by Amitabh as the Godfather and Abhishek as the young Michael in making. Much better than some of the other films made on this novel. - DirectorFeroz KhanStarsVinod KhannaFeroz KhanAmala AkkineniThe story of Dayavan, a benevolent gangster who dedicates his life to helping those less fortunate than himself.Based on "Godfather" by Mario Puzo.
This movie was a pathetic remake of Tamil hit movie "Nayakan" which in itself was adaptation of Godfather. I don't have much good to say about Dayavan as it was a poorly made remake by Feroz Khan where he lifted scene by scene including a song. - DirectorRajkumar HiraniStarsAamir KhanMadhavanMona SinghTwo friends are searching for their long lost companion. They revisit their college days and recall the memories of their friend who inspired them to think differently, even as the rest of the world called them "idiots".Based on "Five Point Someone" by Chetan Bhagat
Must admit that I find very little common between the movie and the book. There was a controversy where movie folks including Aamir refused to give Chetan Bhagat his due. Movie was a big hit and enjoyable in my opinion. Book was just ok. - DirectorAbhishek KapoorStarsAmit SadhSushant Singh RajputRajkummar RaoThree friends growing up in India at the turn of the millennium set out to open a training academy to produce the country's next cricket stars.Based on "The 3 mistakes of my life" by Chetan Bhagat
Read the book and also watched the movie. Book was nice read but nothing major. Movie didn't do justice to the book. Cricket angle was totally muted in the movie. Love story between Vidhya and the hero was also not done properly. Even though novel was not good movie was worse. - DirectorAbhishek VarmanStarsArjun KapoorAlia BhattAmrita SinghThis movie chronicles how Chetan met his wife and the difficulties they faced due to their cultural differences.A movie based on "2 States - The story of my marriage" by Chetan Bhagat.
Kind of an autobiography by Chetan about his time in IIM A. I haven't read the book but have seen the movie. Movie was kind of ok. I loved the role played by Amrita Singh as the Punjabi mother-in-law. Several of my wife's friends who are Punjabi could see their mother in laws in her. I won't name names! - DirectorVijay AnandStarsDev AnandWaheeda RehmanLeela ChitnisWhen mistaken to be a sage by some villagers, an ex-tour guide reflects on his past and lost love to search for spiritual wisdom to guide the villagers.Based on "The Guide" by R K Narayan
Movie was based on this excellent novel By R K Narayan. It was good but it didn't do justice to the original novel which in my opinion was much better with each character having a shade of grey. - DirectorAbdul Rashid KardarDilip KumarStarsDilip KumarWaheeda RehmanPran SikandA kind-hearted, widowed landlord, Thakur, lives a wealthy lifestyle with his son, Ramesh; daughter, Roopa; and an adopted child, Shankar. Ramesh hates Shankar and often abuses him. Years pass by, Thakur has passed away, and all three children have grown up. While Ramesh visits a stunningly attractive Courtesan, Tara, drinks alcohol, and continues to abuse and mercilessly beat Shankar, who bears this in silence as he and Roopa are in love with each other. When Ramesh finds out that Roopa wants to wed Shankar, he has him severely beaten and thrown off a cliff. He then arranges Roopa's marriage with another wealthy man, Satish, while he continues to romance Tara and even signs over his entire estate and home to her name. Then a few years later, Shankar returns - this time as the wealthy Raja of Belapur - and he all set to compromise with Ramesh and propose to Roopa. He finds out that nothing has changed, Ramesh, though rendered penniless by Tara, still hates him; and Satish is wooing Roopa, is engaged to her and a marriage date has been fixed. Shankar's love is now replaced by vengeance and hate, and all he can think of is destroying the lives of Ramesh, Roopa, Satish and his sister, Mala, and he has several plans which he intends to put to use one by one.Based very loosely on "Wuthering Heights" by Emily Bronte
This novel was recommended to me by Pinky after we go engaged. I enjoyed the novel but same cannot be said about this Dilip Kumar and Waheeda Rehman starrer. - DirectorGurinder ChadhaStarsMartin HendersonAishwarya Rai BachchanNadira BabbarA modern adaptation of Jane Austen's classic novel, Pride and Prejudice, that features the lives of four unmarried daughters in an Indian family.Based on "Pride and Prejudice" by Jane Austen.
Have to admit that I haven't read the novel and the movie was forgettable too. - DirectorPradeep SarkarStarsVidya BalanSaif Ali KhanSanjay DuttThe lifelong romance between Lolita (Balan) and Shekar (Khan) is upset by the arrival of another man.Based on Bengali novel "Porinita" by Sharat Babu
Haven't read the original novel but did enjoy this movie. Vidhya provided an excellent performance. I believe this was her first hindi movie. - DirectorAnil GangulyStarsJeetendraSulakshana PanditVikram MakandarShekar (Jeetendra) and Lalita (Sulakshana Pandit) are neighboring childhood friends. Shekar belongs to rich family whereas Lalita is middle-class girl both of them love each other but hesitated to convey. The remaining story is how the couples childhood dream come true.Based on Bengali novel "Porinita" by Sharat Babu
This movie had Jeetender and Sulakshna Pandit and my first encounter with this subject. I liked this version too. This was more muted than Saif Ali Khan starrer Parineeta. - DirectorMansoor KhanStarsAamir KhanJuhi ChawlaGoga KapoorDespite knowing that their respective families are bitter enemies, Raj and Rashmi fall in love with each other and decide to elope.Based very loosely on "Romeo and Juliet" by William Shakespeare
Not sure if you all will agree with this one. Pinky suggested this and I agree with her. - DirectorChandra Prakash DwivediStarsUrmila MatondkarManoj BajpayeeSanjay SuriIn the days leading up to Partition, a Hindu woman is abducted by a Muslim man. Soon, she finds herself not only forced into marriage, but living in a new country as the borders between India and Pakistan are drawn.Based on novel "Pinjar" from Amrita Pritam.
Haven't seen the movie or read the book. Didn't watch the movie because the topic of partition is very personal to me. Looking forward to doing both now. - DirectorDeepa MehtaStarsAamir KhanNandita DasRahul KhannaIt's 1947 and the borderlines between India and Pakistan are being drawn. A young girl witnesses tragedy as her ayah (nanny) is caught between the love of two men and the rising tide of political and religious violence.Based upon Bapsi Sidhwa's novel, "Cracking India"
Was too scared to watch this movie as the topic of partition is very personal. Will gather courage and watch this movie and read the book too. - DirectorDeepa MehtaStarsLisa RayJohn AbrahamSeema BiswasSet in colonial India against Gandhi's rise to power, it's the story of 8-year-old Chuyia, who is widowed and sent to a home to live in penitence; once there, Chuyia's feisty presence deeply affects the lives of the other residents.Author Bapsi Sidhwa wrote the 2006 novel based upon the film! So this is reverse of what we are doing.
I have only seen the movie and it is an excellent movie to watch. Lisa Ray and Seema Biswas have acted beautifully. - DirectorSanjay Leela BhansaliStarsRanbir KapoorSonam KapoorSalman KhanTwo souls arrive in a small town, one on vacation, the other to meet a lover. They spend the most magical dream-like days of their lives in that town... with each other.Based on Fyodor Dostoevsky's short story "White Nights"
Haven't read the book but could make out that movie was slow and painful because it was trying to adapt to a story. Not a good effort by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. In my opinion Vishal Bhardwaj and Anurag Kashyap are the leaders of adapting literature to movies. - DirectorSudhendu RoyStarsSwarup DuttJaya BachchanSuresh ChatwalAnoop marries Minoo, a childish girl who doesn't understand her relationship with Anoop. While returning back to Calcutta, he is compelled to leave her with her mother.Based on the short story named 'Samapti' (The End) by Rabindranath Tagore
Didn't read the original story but saw the movie on Doordarshan long ago and was impressed by it. - DirectorRituparno GhoshStarsAishwarya Rai BachchanPrasenjit ChatterjeeRaima SenBinodini is a young widow who lives with a woman and her son, Mahendra, who had once refused to marry her. Their lives are thrown into disarray when there is deceit and adultery between Binodini, Mahendra, his wife and his friend.based on the novel "Chokher Bali" by Rabindranath Tagore
Saw only the movie and was extremely impressed by Aishwarya Rai. She emoted pain and sensuality equally well. Good movie if you haven't seen it. - DirectorGovind SaraiyaStarsNutanManishVijaya ChoudhuryA man regrets his decision of refusing to marry the woman he loves.based on "Saraswatichandra", a Gujarati novel, by Govardhanram Madhavram Tripathi
Saw this movie long ago and it was ok. Haven't read the book. - DirectorVishal BhardwajStarsPriyanka Chopra JonasVivaan ShahNeil Nitin MukeshSusanna is hungry for love and will go to any extent to find it in its purest form. In her quest for the perfect man, she gets married a number of times as each of her husband's die mysteriously.based on the short story "Susanna's Seven Husbands" by Ruskin Bond
Didn't read the story and was not impressed by the movie either. - DirectorShyam BenegalStarsShashi KapoorNafisa AliShabana AzmiSet during the 1857 War of Independence, an obsessed Indian Nawab desires to wed a young Anglo-Indian woman, but the girl's obstinate mother stands between them.based on Ruskin Bond's fictional novella, "A Flight of Pigeons", set around the Indian Rebellion of 1857.
Haven't read the novel but did see the movie. One of the few movies in which Shashi Kapoor acted with his wife Jeniffer. BTW, Jeniffer acts as the mother of girl which whom Shashi Kapoor falls in love and wants to marry. Was a decent movie and good watch if you like period movies. - DirectorMira NairStarsKal PennIrrfan KhanTabuAmerican-born Gogol, the son of Indian immigrants, wants to fit in among his fellow New Yorkers, despite his family's unwillingness to let go of their traditional ways.based upon the novel of the same name by Jhumpa Lahiri.
Movie and novel both are good but meandering. Good performance by Irrfan, Tabu and Kal Penn. Kind of made me think about how the life will be for me and my children. I read "interpreter of maladies" from Jhumpa and it scared me because everything seemed so real. - DirectorSukhwant DhaddaStarsHema MaliniRishi KapoorPoonam DhillonRani, a loving wife, lives a peaceful life with her husband Trilok, a horse carriage driver. However, Rani's life takes a new turn when Trilok is killed.Adaptation of Rajinder Singh Bedi's classic Urdu novella, by the same name.
An excellent movie with excellent performance given by Hema Malini. The time she is contemplating selling herself is such an emotional scene. Worth watching if you haven't seen it. - DirectorRajshree OjhaStarsSonam KapoorAbhay DeolKaramjeet MadonnaChaos results after a wealthy woman decides to turn matchmaker for a naive village belle.A movie based on Emma from Jane Austen.
Haven't seen the movie and haven't read the novel. - DirectorVishal BhardwajStarsShahid KapoorTabuShraddha KapoorA young man returns to Kashmir after his father's disappearance to confront his uncle, whom he suspects of playing a role in his father's fate.Hamlet is the original work.
Another movie by Vishal Bhardwaj that is based on Shakespeare. Read the Hindi translation of the novel long ago. Did watch the movie on a plane trip. Movie was ok in my opinion. I expected more from Vishal Bhardwaj. - DirectorShyam BenegalStarsRajit KapoorRaghubir YadavSiraj AhmedOn a lazy afternoon, a man shares his memories of a storyteller friend who once narrated a convoluted love story with intertwined plots. As these plots unravel, reality mixes with fiction."Suraj Ka Satvan Ghoda" is a movie based on novel from of the same name by Dharmavir Bharat.
Excellent movie albiet a little slow at time. Depicts the life in small town India very well. Haven't read the novel but hope to so soon. - DirectorHiren NagStarsSachin PilgaonkarRanjeeta KaurMadan PuriA young man must deal with a broken engagement ceremony, while his to-be fiancée waits to be treated for blood cancer.Very loosely based on 1970 movie and book "Love Story" by Erich Segal.
Movie starts with a Hindu boy and Christian girl getting into fights and then eventually falling in love. Girl dies in the end due to illness. Overall a very beautiful movie with some very good songs. My favorite is the happy version of song ankhiyon ke jharokhen se. - DirectorShyam BenegalStarsShashi KapoorRekhaRaj BabbarThis movie tells story of fierce and total competition of two related business families in the days of license raaj India. The overall plot is based on Mahabharat. This movie shows that how the pursuit of self serving ideals even legitimizes killing of family members. This is the old kalyug based on Sanskrit epic "Mahabharat" by Vedvyasa.
This movie is not to be confused with the new Kalyug. Movie is done beautifully. It depicts a feuding family fighting for control of a business empire. It has some really good actors. Here is a quick guide of who plays what.
Dropadi --> Rekha
Karan --> Shashi Kapoor
Bhim --> Kalbhushan - DirectorPrakash JhaStarsAjay DevgnRanbir KapoorNana PatekarSamar, the son of a political family, plans to go to the USA to live with his girlfriend. However, the death of his father makes him stop and enter the dirty world of politics. This one movie is mishmash of two pieces of literature; Mario Puzo's "The Godfather" and our very own Vedvyasa Sanskrit epic "Mahabharat".
Movie is kind of confused and not very good in my opinion. It has political families that are vying for control. Best way to describe it is to talk about who plays what.
Ranbir Kapoor gives a decent performance as Arjun/Michael.
Nana Patekar is mostly acting as Krishna but you also see Tom Hagen in him
Ajay Devgn is the bastard child raised by dalits and acting as Karna.
Manoj Bajpayee is our good old Duryodhana.
Arjun Rampal is the elder brother who dies and is our Sonny Corleane
Katrina is kind of like Dropadi but somewhat muddled. She loves Ranbir (Arjun) but gets married to the older brother. We could also see Kay Adams in her as she loses her love to another woman who gets blown up.
Let me know which book you think this movie copies more. - DirectorBasu ChatterjeeStarsShabana AzmiAmol PalekarGirish KarnadThis is a story of two lawyer brothers, their half brother, their wives and children. Siddheshwari, wife of the eldest brother has left the operational details of the household to Sheela, wife of the half brother Chander. Sheela ensures that the household runs smoothly, while Siddheshwari is the fount of love and affection in the joint household. When brother Harish and his spouse Nayantara rejoin the household, sparks fly. Sheela is accused of misappropriating assets, and the couple are exiled and humiliated by Harish and Nayantara. Will Sheela and Chander's integrity and love be acknowledged? Will the joint family survive the stress of greed and envy?based on the Bengali novel, "Nishkriti" by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay
I haven't read the story but have seen the movie and it is a beautiful movie. Excellent performances by Amol Palekar, Shabana Azmi and Utpal Datt. Kids are amazing too. Gives you a great feel of what it is to grow up in a joint family. - DirectorTarun MajumdarStarsSachin PilgaonkarRajni SharmaGovardhan AsraniSet against the backdrop of a quaint village in British-ruled India, this exquisitely crafted social drama revolves around teenage couple Amal and Rajni. Their marriage is conducted with great ceremony according to rituals and norms, but after an idyllic period of being together, Rajni must go back to live with her family until she comes of age. Amal goes back to his routine of school and tuitions with the elderly teacher, fondly known as MasterJi. His whole world is enlivened and filled with joy when Rajni returns for one of her routine visits. However, their gentle and simple lives are shockingly impacted when the ever-patient MasterJi is arrested by the police. The allegations against him are of being a "freedom fighter", of harbouring and training fugitives, and making explosives. How will these unimaginable and shocking allegations and consequent sequence of events impact Amal and Rajni?based on the Bengali novel by the same name by Bimal Kar.
Haven't read the novel but have seen the movie. A very beautiful movie with great performance from Sachin and lesser know Rajni Sharma. Shows a child marriage and how the couple comes to age. Another movie from the times that are very different from todays. - DirectorShekhar KapurStarsNaseeruddin ShahShabana AzmiJugal HansrajA happy family goes through turbulent times because of a big mistake by one of the family members.based on book "Man Woman and Child" by Erich Segal
I first saw the movie as a 13 year old and was totally blow by the performance given by the entire cast. This subject is kind of difficult to adapt in a Hindi movie where you don't really deal with topics like infidelity and bastards. This movie however punched above its weight with the help of some great songs penned by Gulzar. The book was ok and not necessarily as great. Worth a read and watch though. - DirectorKapil KapoorStarsRishi KapoorTina AmbaniPoonam DhillonThe Promis What I love most about the film was when they met again after the successful operation and Sunita was singing but he couldn't recognise her but he recognised the voice and the hand clapping.Based on "The Promise" which was a movie and later adapted into a novel by Danielle Steel.
This was recommended by Pinky and I have neither seen the movie nor read the book. - DirectorKrishan ChopraHrishikesh MukherjeeStarsSunil DuttSadhana ShivdasaniKanhaiyalal ChaturvediBelieving himself to be a suspect for embezzlement in British India, a man must testify against non-violent freedom-fighters.Based on "Gaban" from Munshi Premchand
Again haven't read the book nor have seen the movie. Hope to do both in near future. - DirectorAbrar AlviStarsMeena KumariGuru DuttRehman KhanA lowly servant, Bhootnath gets close to the wife of his employer and narrates her story through his eyes and perspective.based on a Bengali novel, Shaheb Bibi Golam by Bimal Mitra
Haven't ready the book but have seen the movie. I became a fan of Guru Dutt after watching this movie. Waheeda Rehman looked so pretty in this movie and so did Meena Kumari. Movie is certainly worth watching if you like watching classics. - DirectorMuzaffar AliStarsRekhaFarooq ShaikhNaseeruddin ShahIn Faizabad, British India, Dilawar is sentenced to several years in prison after Amiran's Daroga dad testifies against him. Umrao re-locates to Kanpur where she establishes herself as a Poet and dancer, but is hunted down by brothel-keepers, Gohar Mirza and Husseini and brought back, where she is told that she must marry Gohar. Watch what Umrao does to escape from being married against her will, and her attempts to try and find her way back to her parents.based on the 1905 Urdu novel "Umrao Jaan Ada"
Haven't read the novel but have seen the movie. This movie was done by Rekha when she was at her peak. She carries this movie on her shoulder and kind of cemented her place as the top heroine of her time. Aishwarya Rai later tried the remake but it didn't do well at all. Movie overall was ok but the songs were really good and Rekha took them to the next level. - DirectorJ.P. DuttaStarsAishwarya Rai BachchanShabana AzmiSuniel ShettyJ.P. Dutta's adaption of the Urdu novel "Umrao Jan Ada" by Mirza Haadi Ruswa (1905).based on the Urdu novel "Umrao Jaan Ada"
Haven't seen the movie or read the novel. This movie is known more as a flop remake of 1981 Rekha starrer by the same name. Aishwarya who was on top when this movie was released just couldn't generate enough interest and this movie was a flop while Rekha starrer had performed well. - DirectorMohit SuriStarsVikrant MasseyShraddha KapoorArjun KapoorMadhav meets a girl named Riya and falls in love. After stuggling to convince her to be his girlfriend, she half heartedly agrees to be his "Half Girlfriend"based on the novel of the same name written by Chetan Bhagat
Haven't seen the movie nor have read the book. Not sure when I will get to it. - DirectorYash ChopraStarsMala SinhaShashi KapoorRehman KhanThe story of two families, that of Nawab Badruddin and Gulshan Rai, living in an India under British rule, sharing life's ups and downs together almost as one family together.based on a novel of the same name by Acharya Chatursen
Haven't read the book but did see the movie very long time ago on Doordarshan. I remember it to be a boring movie as it didn't have any fight scenes. Hope to watch it again and read the book. - DirectorSanjay Leela BhansaliStarsRanveer SinghDeepika PadukonePriyanka Chopra JonasAn account of the romance between the Maratha general, Baji Rao I and Mastani, princess of Bundelkhand.based on the Marathi novel Raau by Nagnath S. Inamdar
Haven't read the novel nor have seen the movie. What I do find interesting is how the history these days is fictionalized. Not sure what is true and what is not. Our director Sanjay Leela Bhansali seems to be taking the lead in this direction. - DirectorSanjay Leela BhansaliStarsDeepika PadukoneRanveer SinghShahid KapoorSet in medieval Rajasthan, Queen Padmavati is married to a noble king and they live in a prosperous fortress with their subjects until an ambitious Sultan hears of Padmavati's beauty and forms an obsessive love for the Queen of Mewar.Loosely based on the epic poem Padmavat by Malik Muhammad Jayasi.
Have not read the poem but did have the misfortune of paying 10 dollars head to watch this garbage of a movie. Deepika performed excellently but rest of this movie was third rate. Now this movie is supposed to be based on a Poem but our friends in Rajasthan assumes this to be a true history glorifying Sati. Buses were burnt and properties were destroyed for sake of this movie. Just don't understand why. - DirectorKrishna ShahStarsDharmendraZeenat AmanRex HarrisonSir John Locksley, the greatest jewel thief, decides his most prized possession, the Shalimar Ruby, should be passed on to a worthy successor. He invites the best rival jewel thieves to his island estate to participate in a deadly contest. The plot is inspired from the novel 'The vulture is a patient bird' by James Hedley Chase
Saw the movie but haven't read the original novel. Movie was famous because of presence of number of non Indian actors like Rex Harrison. Kind of average movie with not much to right home about.
