- DirectorRon HowardStarsDaniel BrühlChris HemsworthOlivia WildeThe merciless 1970s rivalry between Formula One rivals James Hunt and Niki Lauda.I'm fairly sure it's ok to call Chris Hemsworth an A-List star now, especially after Rush! Ron Howard's film Rush had me from beginning to end, with captivating performances, exhilarating race sequences and some of the best writing I've ever seen. Hemsworth and Daniel Bruhl stole the show, and both actors gave performances of their careers. No other film has excited me, emotionally drained me as much as Rush has this year, and it wholeheartedly deserves this position.

Current Rating: 10 - DirectorMartin ScorseseStarsLeonardo DiCaprioJonah HillMargot RobbieBased on the true story of Jordan Belfort, from his rise to a wealthy stock-broker living the high life to his fall involving crime, corruption and the federal government.Martin Scorsese's most recent film is an absolute joy! I loved every minute of the 179 minute running time, and I'm very willing to go and see it again. DiCaprio's performance alone is worth every award possible, due to absolute dedication to the role. He does some crazy stuff in this film! One of the best films I've ever seen, and this proves that Scorsese is still in kicking form!

Current Rating: 10 - DirectorAlfonso CuarónStarsSandra BullockGeorge ClooneyEd HarrisDr Ryan Stone, an engineer on her first time on a space mission, and Matt Kowalski, an astronaut on his final expedition, have to survive in space after they are hit by debris while spacewalking.Once in a while, along comes a film which takes everyone by surprise. It innovates film for the better. Gravity is that film. Alfonso Cuaron has created the film of the decade in the way of visuals, and to add to that, has created a plot that is as intense as Argo of last year (That's saying a lot!). The two performances were both amazing and Oscar worthy, and Alfonso Cuaron should certainly win a best director award. This is the film that should be seen by literally everyone!

Current Rating: 10 - DirectorRichard CurtisStarsDomhnall GleesonRachel McAdamsBill NighyAt the age of 21, Tim discovers he can travel in time and change what happens and has happened in his own life. His decision to make his world a better place by getting a girlfriend turns out not to be as easy as you might think.Didn't see this one coming, did you?! I saw About Time very recently, in a small theatre, and not for one second during the ads and all did I think I would hail this film as being one of the best Rom-Coms I've ever seen, a film that could rival my fourth favourite film of all time in 500 Days of Summer. But, well, it did! It's smart, incredibly funny and ultimately, very real, despite the time travel part!

Current Rating: 10 - DirectorJoseph KosinskiStarsTom CruiseMorgan FreemanAndrea RiseboroughA veteran assigned to extract Earth's remaining resources begins to question what he knows about his mission and himself. This film wasn't loved by critics and audiences alike, but I loved this film! Whilst it certainly wasn't perfect, it dragged me in and had me invested until the very end. Tom Cruise's performance alone stole the show for me, but to add to that were incredible visuals, some intriguing plot points and some intelligent writing. All this made for something that I really did love, that whilst it may not have as high a score as the other films surrounding it on this list, it certainly deserves this position in my opinion.

Current Rating: 9.3 - DirectorJeff NicholsStarsMatthew McConaugheyTye SheridanJacob LoflandTwo young boys encounter a fugitive and form a pact to help him evade the vigilantes that are on his trail and to reunite him with his true love.Matthew McConaughey really brought his A-Game to this almost perfect film. Mud made you feel like a kid again, watching two teenagers ride around in a little boat on a big, open river, and finding McConaughey stranded and in need of help. It's a wonderful tale that's well directed, fun, and at times, incredibly emotional. Certainly deserves this place.

Current Rating: 10 - DirectorFrancis LawrenceStarsJennifer LawrenceJosh HutchersonLiam HemsworthKatniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark become targets of the Capitol after their victory in the 74th Hunger Games sparks a rebellion in the Districts of Panem. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire was something that I was, in a way, dreading. I've read the books, and I was really excited for the original. When it turned out to be much less than satisfying, I really gave up on the franchise. Catching Fire reinvigorated my interest in this franchise, and it did it in spectacular fashion. The shaky cam was all gone, the action was brutal, the pacing wonderful and Jennifer Lawrence's performance was startling good. After this smart sequel, I can't wait for next year's Mockingjay: Part 1

Current Rating: 9.7 - DirectorGabriela CowperthwaiteStarsTilikumDave DuffusSamantha BergA documentary following the controversial captivity of killer whales, and its dangers for both humans and whales.Blackfish is a documentary that should take your breath away, and for good reason. It's masterfully shot, well paced and ultimately, opens your eyes to a horrible reality; that beautiful, intelligent, wild animals like Killer Whales, are being almost tortured whilst in captivity, just for our entertainment. It's undeniable how powerful this film really is.

Current Rating: 9.3 - DirectorChris BuckJennifer LeeStarsKristen BellIdina MenzelJonathan GroffFearless optimist Anna teams up with rugged mountain man Kristoff and his loyal reindeer Sven in an epic journey to find Anna's sister Elsa, whose icy powers have trapped the kingdom of Arendelle in eternal winter.I saw Frozen very recently, and I adored it! It was an almost totally perfect film, and it really showed me that Disney has still got it! From the score to the songs, to the visuals to the funny and adorable characters, Frozen has it all, and will please children and adults alike.

Current Rating: 9.5 - DirectorPeter JacksonStarsIan McKellenMartin FreemanRichard ArmitageThe dwarves, along with Bilbo Baggins and Gandalf the Grey, continue their quest to reclaim the Lonely Mountain, their homeland, from the dragon Smaug. An Unexpected Journey, from last year, was one of the biggest disappointments imaginable. Whilst it wasn't a bad film, it didn't meet the hype surrounding it. Fortunately, Desolation of Smaug did! The grit returned, Freeman was great as Bilbo, and Benedict Cumberbatch as Smaug the dragon was amazing! A big improvement, which really gets me interested for the final part of this trilogy!
