M83, and Josh Trapanese have created something brilliant. The music is evidently amazing within the film, and even better by itself. It's full of wonderful synth, all which isn't too strong and powerful to make irritating. It's energetic, emotional and fits well to the film. A masterpiece, by all accounts. - DirectorZack SnyderStarsHenry CavillAmy AdamsMichael ShannonAn alien child is evacuated from his dying world and sent to Earth to live among humans. His peace is threatened when other survivors of his home planet invade Earth.Man of Steel by Hans Zimmer
Many curse this scores lack of a defining theme, unlike John William's score. I, on the other hand, embrace what Zimmer has given us, with no complaints. The percussion is astonishing, the individual themes are all emotional and powerful, and it's got some really catchy beats that you'll be humming for days. - DirectorAlfonso CuarónStarsSandra BullockGeorge ClooneyEd HarrisDr Ryan Stone, an engineer on her first time on a space mission, and Matt Kowalski, an astronaut on his final expedition, have to survive in space after they are hit by debris while spacewalking.Gravity by Steven Price
The film, the score, all incredible pieces of work. Whilst criticised for it's slow and rocky start, the score to Gravity is brilliant in my eyes. It's atmospheric and powerful, something that shall not soon be forgotten, I promise you. - DirectorRon HowardStarsDaniel BrühlChris HemsworthOlivia WildeThe merciless 1970s rivalry between Formula One rivals James Hunt and Niki Lauda.Rush by Hans Zimmer
Zimmer's had a stellar year, this being his second listing here for the year. Rush is a brilliant film, made better with this classic sounding score, that certainly reminds me of his score for Days of Thunder. It's energetic, heartfelt and a bunch of fun! - DirectorAlan TaylorStarsChris HemsworthNatalie PortmanTom HiddlestonWhen the Dark Elves attempt to plunge the universe into darkness, Thor must embark on a perilous and personal journey that will reunite him with doctor Jane Foster.Thor: The Dark World by Brian Tyler
Tyler is certainly the composer of the year. If I could've lengthed this list out to 10 titles, Iron Man 3 would've certainly entered the list as well. This score has a mesmerizing, hero worthy theme, and some of the best orchestral work I've seen all year. It's awe-worthy, this one.
