- DirectorDamien ChazelleStarsRyan GoslingEmma StoneRosemarie DeWittWhile navigating their careers in Los Angeles, a pianist and an actress fall in love while attempting to reconcile their aspirations for the future. One word, perfect! Showcasing the city of stars— romance-filled with arts and music, La La Land’s superb story-telling propounds love and passion in the era of adversity and begginings. Characters, location, directing, the music was on point making it a regret not for this film to win at the Oscars 2016.
- DirectorDarren AronofskyStarsJennifer LawrenceJavier BardemEd HarrisA couple's relationship is tested when uninvited guests arrive at their home, disrupting their tranquil existence.Brutal, honest and perplexing one-of-a-kind film made for audiences to question everything they see as the story plays out. Convincing steady pace, Jennifer Lawrence became one kind of a phenomenon with her believable acting.
- DirectorBradley CooperStarsLady GagaBradley CooperSam ElliottA musician helps a young singer find fame as age and alcoholism send his own career into a downward spiral.Genuinely sentimental and tattoos a spot in a soft heart. This music-filled quest to a person's development over the careers they face in life embeds a spot as the characters make you love themselves more. Identifies itself as its own. Unique. Emotional. Heartfelt.
- DirectorJae-young KwakStarsJun Ji-hyunJang HyukKim Soo-roThe heart-warming romance story between Kyungjin and Myungwoo. Even though he has passed away, he will be always with Kyungwoo forever. The drama-romantic-comedy film deals with Korean-themed humor usually seen in their films. Nevertheless, the film was an ok. Symbolic and deals with personal issues and epiphanies.
- DirectorStephen ChboskyStarsLogan LermanEmma WatsonEzra MillerCharlie, a 15-year-old introvert, enters high school and is nervous about his new life. When he befriends his seniors, he learns to cope with his friend's suicide and his tumultuous past.A perfect coming-of-age teen film— characters were enticing and magnetic. Stephen Chbosky’s story-telling shines out as you, the viewer, feels with the character. A definite fave forever!
- DirectorPeter JacksonStarsRachel WeiszMark WahlbergSaoirse RonanCenters on a young girl who has been murdered and watches over her family - and her killer - from purgatory. She must weigh her desire for vengeance against her desire for her family to heal. The mysterious film develops an unexpected symbolic change that plays out kinda well. Characters were ok, though the acting seems off and the scenes are unconventional and questionable, the film is still a must-see as it imparts valuable lessons.
- DirectorDavid O. RussellStarsChristian BaleAmy AdamsBradley CooperA con man, Irving Rosenfeld, along with his seductive partner Sydney Prosser, is forced to work for a wild F.B.I. Agent, Richie DiMaso, who pushes them into a world of Jersey powerbrokers and the Mafia.A comedy that you shouldn’t underestimate. The glitzy life-ish film hustled the art of story writing and humor. In a film that doesn't try hard drama, romance, comedy and interest. Recommendable!
- DirectorAri AsterStarsToni ColletteMilly ShapiroGabriel ByrneA grieving family is haunted by tragic and disturbing occurrences.Horrifyingly extraordinary, this shocking goose-bumps intensifying film dwells on how you, as a viewer, is completely oblivious to the story. A gut-clenching shocker!
- DirectorGreta GerwigStarsSaoirse RonanLaurie MetcalfTracy LettsIn 2002, an artistically inclined 17-year-old girl comes of age in Sacramento, California.Something that feels relatively intimate, Lady Bird is a quirky film that has its screenplay at point exhibiting Greta Gerwig's staple odd charismatic story-telling. Recommendable for coming-of-age film lovers!
- DirectorNoah BaumbachStarsGreta GerwigLola KirkeShana DowdeswellA lonely college freshman's life is turned upside-down by her impetuous, adventurous stepsister-to-be.Mystifying. It's an awe to make such characters that you- at this film- once in a lifetime experience. Lines explicitly bring laughter during spontaneous situations, a surprisingly good adventure seeking self in the bustling streets of New York. The characters that revolve around the story are interesting and definitely adds up to the fire. Greta Gerwig is a genius.
- DirectorAlejandro G. IñárrituStarsMichael KeatonZach GalifianakisEdward NortonA washed-up superhero actor attempts to revive his fading career by writing, directing, and starring in a Broadway production.A thrill. Birdman, with its atypical sense in all forms, didn't fail to bring out the light in its dark depressing theme. Birdman traversed the simplest plot but with incredible execution. Birdman is an experience in its own form. Bravo!
- DirectorGuillermo del ToroStarsSally HawkinsOctavia SpencerMichael ShannonAt a top secret research facility in the 1960s, a lonely janitor forms a unique relationship with an amphibious creature that is being held in captivity.Speechless. Deviant. The film exudes perfectly both the individual’s strange sense and enigmatic presence. A romantic-art film for all ages. Guillermo Del Toro truly is a master in his own type of art.
- DirectorCharlie McDowellStarsMark DuplassElisabeth MossTed DansonA troubled couple vacate to a beautiful getaway, but bizarre circumstances further complicate their situation.A still. Turnouts of events are crazy and shocks you but with simplicity and genuine script-writing contexts. One of my low-key favorites.
- DirectorSpike JonzeStarsJoaquin PhoenixAmy AdamsScarlett JohanssonIn a near future, a lonely writer develops an unlikely relationship with an operating system designed to meet his every need.Poignant story-telling matched with a theme that tackles modern issues with Joaquin Phoenix's exquisite portrayal and Spike Jonze's effortless emotional essential story-telling. One of the top films I surely recommend and it's close to heart.
- DirectorDamien ChazelleStarsMiles TellerJ.K. SimmonsMelissa BenoistA promising young drummer enrolls at a cut-throat music conservatory where his dreams of greatness are mentored by an instructor who will stop at nothing to realize a student's potential.Gives you a complete experience of how hard it is to be a striving musician. Its premise was one of a kind. Though one comment, the film didn’t make me feel the progression, but I guess that’s good somehow. The film didn’t have a major event or something monumental that adds up parts to the movie’s sum.
- DirectorDavid LoweryStarsCasey AffleckRooney MaraMcColm Cephas Jr.In this singular exploration of legacy, love, loss, and the enormity of existence, a recently deceased, white-sheeted ghost returns to his suburban home to try to reconnect with his bereft wife.Spirit-budding soft story-teller that touches my heart and relaxes my mind with deep-provocative messages and scenes. Must-watch before I die!
- DirectorSam MendesStarsKevin SpaceyAnnette BeningThora BirchA sexually frustrated suburban father has a mid-life crisis after becoming infatuated with his daughter's best friend. From the first moment, this psychological film has you hooked with its characters, staple music scoring and basically the whole gist of the story— which is in totality, a lot and each of them had a significant theme. Full of unexpected twists and turns and extravaganzas. Truly magnificent, nothing like I've ever seen before.
- DirectorAgnieszka SmoczynskaStarsMarta MazurekMichalina OlszanskaKinga PreisIn Warsaw, a pair of mermaid sisters are adopted into a cabaret. While one seeks love with humans the other hungers to dine on the human population of the city.Something no one, I say- No one, had ever seen before— this eerie fantastic musical brings goosebumps and thrills into each frame by frame. Story and visuals fairly plausible. Deeply chilling!
- StarsJang Keun-sukIm Yoon-ahOh Seung-yunLove Rain is a story which takes place in two time periods, the first is in the 1970's which tells the love story of two university students Seo In-ha and Kim Yoon-Hee. After a series of events the couple are separated. The time is then moved forward to 2012 where the story revolves around Seo Joon, the son of In Ha and Jung Ha Na the daughter of Kim Yoon-Hee. Joon and Ha Na then fall in love but In-Ha is still in love with Kim Yoon-Hee, unknowing that their children are in love In Ha then attempts to track down Kim Yoon-Hee for the first time in thirty years.Nostalgic. The feeling of first love, friendship, and youth. This psychedelic romance Korean drama had strong points: its incorporation of the old cinema, the sensibility of the characters and emotional connection, the turnout of events and most notably the music and most most notably its story. Love Rain is totally one of my favorites!
- DirectorJoel FerrerStarsEnchong DeeJanine GutierrezVictor AnastacioBert is quick-witted but an emotional guy who falls in love with Elise who is a strong and independent woman. They separated to pursue their studies only to meet again when they grow up.The premise of the film was unclear. The execution was what made it seem okay. It's remarkable for being culturally funny, the actors did an OK job. Exquisite ending.
- DirectorIce IdananStarsAlessandra De RossiJay GonzagaPepe HerreraA series of mysterious hand-illustrated postcards take a young woman on a journey throughout the Philippines in search of its anonymous writer. An amazing journey. The film had me waiting for the end and the film, though has quirks, managed to feel heartfelt. Brava!
- DirectorDamien ChazelleStarsRyan GoslingEmma StoneRosemarie DeWittWhile navigating their careers in Los Angeles, a pianist and an actress fall in love while attempting to reconcile their aspirations for the future.Watching it for the second time on the big screen, La La Land— truly is more than the sum of its parts. Every moment was enjoyable and the film ended with me wanting more. It didn’t feel like it was an hour of two!
- StarsShinnosuke MitsushimaTao TsuchiyaMinami Takayama29-year-old Satoru Fujinuma is sent back in time 18 years to prevent the events leading to his mother's death, which began with a series of kidnappings while he was in 5th grade.Engaging and mysterious. Childhood friendships touch me the most and since it's of sci-fi genre, I am appalled of this anime series. This is what you should be introduced to if you tend for light story-driven anime.
- DirectorRob MarshallStarsRenée ZellwegerCatherine Zeta-JonesRichard GereTwo death-row murderesses develop a fierce rivalry while competing for publicity, celebrity, and a sleazy lawyer's attention.A weird satisfying 21st century female powerhouse movie. Sit back and relax as you enjoy each theatrical performance brought into frame. Everything goes well as it is, nothing can be said except for an advice— lay off the caramel.
- DirectorGreg MottolaStarsMichael CeraJonah HillChristopher Mintz-PlasseTwo co-dependent high school seniors are forced to deal with separation anxiety after their plan to stage a booze-soaked party goes awry. Not bad for a teen comedy film. Made me laugh, chuckle and think. Superbad is a film of its kind, actors are excellent in giving the audience pure joy and the ex-machinas in the movie are such a delight as it brings discomfort and nothing but pure comedic trance to critics and audiences alike.
