- DirectorChris McKayStarsWill ArnettMichael CeraRosario DawsonA cooler-than-ever Bruce Wayne must deal with the usual suspects as they plan to rule Gotham City, while discovering that he has accidentally adopted a teenage orphan who wishes to become his sidekick.Such a fun movie! I did not expect to laugh as much as I did.
- DirectorIsaac EzbanStarsGustavo Sánchez ParraCassandra CiangherottiFernando BecerrilOn the rainy night of October 2, 1968, eight characters waiting on a remote bus station for a bus heading to Mexico City start experiencing a strange phenomenon. It's not that I LOVED this movie, but it really creeped me out and it's something I will remember for a long time.
- DirectorJon WattsStarsTom HollandMichael KeatonRobert Downey Jr.Peter Parker balances his life as an ordinary high school student in Queens with his superhero alter-ego Spider-Man, and finds himself on the trail of a new menace prowling the skies of New York City.Actually I remember not wanting to give Tom Holland a chance as the new Spiderman, but I was wrong. He's so amazing in this role; the story was nice, too.
- DirectorEdgar WrightStarsAnsel ElgortJon BernthalJon HammAfter being coerced into working for a crime boss, a young getaway driver finds himself taking part in a heist doomed to fail.I think everyone loved this movie and I was just late to the game.
- DirectorDan GilroyStarsJake GyllenhaalRene RussoZawe AshtonA thriller about the contemporary art scene of Los Angeles, where big money artists and mega-collectors pay a high price when art collides with commerce.I think a lot of people (including me) expected a hardcore horror movie and not a satirical take on art-people and I think that's why this movie didn't receive as much attention. Jake Gyllenhaal blew me away!
- DirectorJemaine ClementTaika WaititiStarsJemaine ClementTaika WaititiCori Gonzalez-MacuerViago, Deacon, and Vladislav are vampires who are struggling with the mundane aspects of modern life, like paying rent, keeping up with the chore wheel, trying to get into nightclubs, and overcoming flatmate conflicts.I watched this movie on a plane and found it very difficult not to laugh out loud!
- DirectorRobert RodriguezStarsRosa SalazarChristoph WaltzJennifer ConnellyA deactivated cyborg's revived, but can't remember anything of her past and goes on a quest to find out who she is.Pretty sure people WANTED this movie to fail. I watched it on my birthday and really, really liked it. I still hope, they can make a sequel.
- DirectorJordan Vogt-RobertsStarsTom HiddlestonSamuel L. JacksonBrie LarsonAfter the Vietnam war, a team of scientists explores an uncharted island in the Pacific, venturing into the domain of the mighty Kong and must fight to escape a primal Eden.Another movie I was very skeptical about at first, but it was great! Loved the cast, the story, colours, everything.
- DirectorKuan-Hui LinStarsTing-hu ZhangSing HomHe-Hsuan LinThree youngsters meet by accident at a mysterious hot springs hotel. There, they fall into an unforgettable adventure. It starts off scary but soon turns funny when they have to try and save a family.EVERYONE WATCH THIS MOVIE!!! I was
hysterically laughing throughout the whole thing! - DirectorOriol PauloStarsJose CoronadoHugo SilvaBelén RuedaA detective searches for the body of a femme fatale which has gone missing from a morgue.I remember reading somewhere that no one ever guessed the end correctly before the climax and I was like "Pfff...how difficult can it be?" and...well...even I -a hardcore movielover- guessed wrong on how this movie would end! The first 10 rating I gave this year.
- DirectorBruce KesslerStarsKevin CoughlinBrooke BundyLawrence P. CaseyDanny and Elliot avoid military service by pretending to be gay, but they have to act the part when the recruiting officer doesn't buy it."They're MARIGOLDS!" Oh, how many times did I watch this vine? The movie is on YouTube and I'd recommend everyone who's into weird comedies to check it out.
- DirectorDrew PearceStarsJodie FosterSofia BoutellaDave BautistaSet in riot-torn, near-future Los Angeles, 'Hotel Artemis' follows the Nurse, who runs a secret, members-only emergency room for criminals.Another movie pretty much no one saw? I Loved the whole world in this movie and was really impressed by Jodie Foster. When Jeff Goldblum turned up and started cursing, I was convinced.
- DirectorRoland EmmerichStarsLiam HemsworthJeff GoldblumBill PullmanTwo decades after the first Independence Day invasion, Earth is faced with a new extra-Solar threat. But will mankind's new space defenses be enough?Better than people want to admit. A solid action movie with a nice cast and cool effects. The only thing I didn't like, though, was the rushed ending of the movie.
- DirectorBen StillerStarsBen StillerOwen WilsonChristine TaylorAt the end of his career, a clueless fashion model is brainwashed to kill the Prime Minister of Malaysia. Can you believe it took me nearly 18 years to watch this movie? Not really hot right now.
- DirectorGuy RitchieStarsCharlie HunnamAstrid Bergès-FrisbeyJude LawRobbed of his birthright, Arthur comes up the hard way in the back alleys of the city. But once he pulls the sword from the stone, he is forced to acknowledge his true legacy - whether he likes it or not.Critics can suck a d*ck. This movie was bomb.
- DirectorAnna BodenRyan FleckStarsBrie LarsonSamuel L. JacksonBen MendelsohnCarol Danvers becomes one of the universe's most powerful heroes when Earth is caught in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races."I don't have to prove anything to you." Such a powerful line. Really made me fall in love with Carol, even though I didn't want to. I guess Marvel just knows how to play the game.
- DirectorRuben FleischerStarsTom HardyMichelle WilliamsRiz AhmedA failed reporter is bonded to an alien entity, one of many symbiotes who have invaded Earth. But the being takes a liking to Earth and decides to protect it.I read somewhere that you either love this movie or you hate it. I LOVED it. Loved the whole concept behind it, Tom Hardy and just Venom in general.
- DirectorAndré ØvredalStarsBrian CoxEmile HirschOphelia LovibondA father and son, both coroners, are pulled into a complex mystery while attempting to identify the cause of death of a young woman who was apparently harboring dark secrets.A movie I wanted to see for the longest time and only got around to it when it appeared on Netflix. It's fantastic!
- DirectorDavid LeitchStarsCharlize TheronJames McAvoyJohn GoodmanAn undercover MI6 agent is sent to Berlin during the Cold War to investigate the murder of a fellow agent and recover a missing list of double agents.Another movie that I had to wait for, but it was worth it. Very stylish and I enjoyed Theron as this absolut badass, who is human at the same time.
- DirectorAnthony RussoJoe RussoStarsRobert Downey Jr.Chris EvansMark RuffaloAfter the devastating events of Avengers: Infinity War (2018), the universe is in ruins. With the help of remaining allies, the Avengers assemble once more in order to reverse Thanos' actions and restore balance to the universe. No spoilers: I watched this today (24th of April) and I am still speechless. Marvel outdid themselves. There is honestly nothing they can do that would top this. NOTHING!
- DirectorBrad BirdStarsCraig T. NelsonHolly HunterSarah VowellThe Incredibles family takes on a new mission which involves a change in family roles: Bob Parr (Mr. Incredible) must manage the house while his wife Helen (Elastigirl) goes out to save the world.I don't think I enjoyed this movie as much as I should have, considering I loved the first one as a kid, but I was quite late to the game (this movie came out LAST year!). There was a lot going on and I overall liked it though. LOVED the animation. You can tell how much work went into everything.
- DirectorFrançois SimardAnouk WhissellYoann-Karl WhissellStarsGraham VerchereJudah LewisCaleb EmeryAfter suspecting that their police officer neighbor is a serial killer, a group of teenage friends spend their summer spying on him and gathering evidence, but as they get closer to discovering the truth, things get dangerous. This movie kinda left me sad. It promised a summer adventure, but te tone changed in the last act and ended on such a dark note. I overall enjoyed it, but I do wish they kept the tone throughout the whole movie.
- DirectorChad StahelskiStarsKeanu ReevesHalle BerryIan McShaneJohn Wick is on the run after killing a member of the international assassins' guild, and with a $14 million price tag on his head, he is the target of hit men and women everywhere.Seeing John Wick kick ass really makes me believe in all the good in the world. Amazing and brutal fight scenes and a suprising ending. Can't wait for the sequel!
- CreatorNeil GaimanStarsDavid TennantMichael SheenMiranda RichardsonThe End of the World is coming, which means a fussy Angel and a loose-living Demon who've become overly fond of life on Earth are forced to form an unlikely alliance to stop Armageddon.I knew from the moment I heard about this series, that I would love it, and I was right. Absolutely amazing, especially the acting. The effects were a bit cheap-ish at times, but you could definitely overlook it for the humor and great pace.
- DirectorF. Gary GrayStarsVin DieselJason StathamDwayne JohnsonWhen a mysterious woman seduces Dominic Toretto into the world of terrorism and a betrayal of those closest to him, the crew face trials that will test them as never before.Yeeeah, I know, I'm late to the game, as always. The F&F franchise really started to grow on me, though. This movie was a great action piece and had some good sentimental scenes.
- DirectorLucia AnielloStarsScarlett JohanssonKate McKinnonZoë KravitzThings go terribly wrong for a group of girlfriends who hire a male stripper for a bachelorette party in Miami.A suprise hit for me. A expected a silly, little comedy, that's trying way to hard to be like Hangover, but I was wrong. Solid cast, nice humor. I think people sometimes take certain movies to seriously (hence the bad-ish IMDb score).
- DirectorBernard RoseStarsVirginia MadsenXander BerkeleyTony ToddThe Candyman, a murderous soul with a hook for a hand, is accidentally summoned to reality by a skeptic grad student researching the monster's myth.A haunting movie.
- DirectorLes ClarkClyde GeronimiEric LarsonStarsMary CostaBill ShirleyEleanor AudleyAfter being snubbed by the royal family, a malevolent fairy places a curse on a princess which only a prince can break, along with the help of three good fairies. Can you believe it took me 50 years to watch this movie? I can't either, but it became one of my favourite Disney movies very quickly - I was in awe after like 30 seconds of watching it.
- DirectorKevin YagherStarsBruce RamsayValentina VargasDoug BradleyIn the 22nd century, a scientist attempts to right the wrong his ancestor created: the puzzle box that opens the gates of Hell and unleashes Pinhead and his Cenobite legions.Aahhh 90s horror movies are just something else. It's not like they are good, but they just have this certain vibe that hypnotize you.
- DirectorTravis KnightStarsHailee SteinfeldJorge Lendeborg Jr.John CenaOn the run in the year 1987, Bumblebee finds refuge in a junkyard in a small California beach town. On the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, Charlie Watson discovers Bumblebee, battle-scarred and broken. No one asked for this movie and Hollywood gave it to us anyways. What can I say? It really was as good as people said. I guess we were suprised by how much better this single movies was in comparison to the Transformer movies.
- DirectorLars KlevbergStarsKathryn PrescottTyler YoungSamantha LoganHigh school loner Bird Fitcher has no idea what dark secrets are tied to the Polaroid camera she finds. It doesn't take long to discover that those who have their picture taken with it, soon die.I enjoyed this movie. I know the premise doesn't sound like much, but I liked it nonetheless.
- DirectorChristopher LandonStarsJessica RotheIsrael BroussardRuby ModineA college student must relive the day of her murder over and over again, in a loop that will end only when she discovers her killer's identity.I'll be honest: I was mad at this movie for ripping off "Before I Fall", but it was so much better than I thought. Really want to check out the sequel now.
- CreatorSteve BlackmanJeremy SlaterStarsAidan GallagherElliot PageTom HopperA family of former child heroes, now grown apart, must reunite to continue to protect the world.I stayed away from shows for most of this year, because they are usually a commitment. I wasn't sure about this one at first, but Robert Sheehan SOLD it to me.
- DirectorBob PersichettiPeter RamseyRodney RothmanStarsShameik MooreJake JohnsonHailee SteinfeldTeen Miles Morales becomes the Spider-Man of his universe and must join with five spider-powered individuals from other dimensions to stop a threat for all realities. It took me a LONG time to watch this (I lowkey waited for it to be on amazon).
- DirectorJames WanStarsJason MomoaAmber HeardWillem DafoeArthur Curry, the human-born heir to the underwater kingdom of Atlantis, goes on a quest to prevent a war between the worlds of ocean and land.Proof that there is still life in the DCEU, as long as they try out something new and stay away from Superman and Batman.
- DirectorDean DevlinStarsGerard ButlerJim SturgessAbbie CornishWhen the network of satellites designed to control the global climate starts to attack Earth, it's a race against the clock for its creator to uncover the real threat before a worldwide Geostorm wipes out everything and everyone.A delightfully campy desaster movie. Gerard Butler looked like he was having a lot of fun, a diverse cast and mostly solid effects.
- DirectorBryan SingerStarsRami MalekLucy BoyntonGwilym LeeThe story of the legendary British rock band Queen and lead singer Freddie Mercury, leading up to their famous performance at Live Aid (1985).I'm always late to the great movies, right?
- CreatorTravis BeachamRené EchevarriaStarsOrlando BloomCara DelevingneSimon McBurneyA human detective and a fairy rekindle a dangerous affair in a Victorian fantasy world, where the city's uneasy peace collapses when a string of murders reveals an unimaginable monster.Another show. It wasn't always perfect and I'm still warming up to the idea of Cara Delevigne as an actress, but it was very good nonetheless. I'm kinda praying for a second season.
- DirectorStuart GordonStarsJeffrey CombsBruce AbbottBarbara CramptonAfter an odd new medical student arrives on campus, a dedicated local and his girlfriend become involved in bizarre experiments centering around the re-animation of dead tissue.I feel like this will become one of those feel-good-movies for me. It's practically perfect - I just don't like the scene in the morgue, the blonde woman and the creepy head. You know what I mean.
- DirectorMikhail RedStarsBea AlonzoCharo Santos-ConcioJake CuencaWhen a student's suicide rattles an all-girls Catholic school, a clairvoyant guidance counselor leans on a ghost to uncover the convent's abusive past.I love finding an unexpected horror gem! A nice atmosphere, some good scares and an interesting main character. Not everyone liked it, but I guess that comes with the horror genre.
- DirectorEgor BaranovStarsMargarita AdaevaSergey BadyukFilipp DyachkovThe year 1829. Nikolay Gogol, a young Third Section clerk, is desperate: his own books seem shallow and mediocre, so he keeps buying entire print runs just to burn them all. He is suffering from violent epileptic seizures and struggles to keep on working. Investigator Yakov Guro accidentally witnesses one such fit and realizes that Gogol's visions contain clues that could help solve actual crimes. Together, Gogol and Guro take on a particularly weird and baffling case that brings them to a small village of Dikanka, where everyone has a huge secret to hide. The first movie of a trilogy based on Gogol's story VIY. I loved the atmosphere and aesthetic of the movie more than anything else. Most of the acting was ok.
- DirectorAleksandr DomogarovStarsAngelina StrechinaDaniil MuravevYan AlabushevThe sinister ghost of the Queen of Spades is again thirsty for blood, and this time its victims are the pupils of the boarding school, located in an old mansion, shrouded in gloomy rumors. Entertaining each other horror stories about the murders of children who were committed in this house in the nineteenth century, teenagers find in the abandoned wing of the building a mysterious mirror covered with mysterious drawings. For fun, the students spend in front of this mirror the mystical rite of calling the spirit of the Queen of Spades and make the most intimate desires, hoping that the ghost will fulfill them. The jokers are unaware that their own souls will be the price to pay for each whim to come, and that the Queen of Spades will not rest until they get them all.Another Russian movie, but this ones more on the horror side. I was suprised how much I like it, considering how simple the storyline was - some would even say 'boring' considering much better America movies with the same vibe. But I enjoyed it nonetheless. It had a great atmosphere and the protagonist was flawed and interesting.
- DirectorJack SholderStarsRobert EnglundMark PattonKim MyersA teenage boy is haunted in his dreams by deceased child murderer Freddy Krueger, who is out to possess him in order to continue his reign of terror in the real world. The gayest 80s-horror-flick ever made and I loved it. Can't imagine what went on in peoples minds when they made this movie...
- DirectorNikolay KhomerikiStarsEvgeniy TsyganovDaisy HeadDmitriy LysenkovPetersburg at the end of the 19th century was embraced by a massive enthusiasm for the occult sciences and esotericism. British medium Olivia Reed arrives in the capital of the Russian Empire on tour and gathers crowds of people at her public spiritualistic sessions. At this time, a series of ritual mysterious murders takes place in the city. Girls are abducted on the streets, their mutilated bodies are found in various parts of the city. The investigation is carried out by a young police officer Rostov and his assistant Ganin. With each new victim, things are becoming more confused. Suspicion leads Rostov to Olivia, and he decides to turn to her in the hope that her genuine or imaginary ability to summon the spirits of the dead can help to get on the trail of the killer.I really got into Russian movies throughout the end of 2019 if you couldn't tell. This one was SO good that I'm actually MAD that no one talks about it. From the cinematography, to the acting and the NARRATOR himself! Watch it, if you can and don't let the bad imdb rating fool you!
- DirectorJon TurteltaubStarsJason StathamBingbing LiRainn WilsonA group of scientists exploring the Marianas Trench encounter the largest marine predator that has ever existed - the Megalodon.I'm a sucker for extravagant action movies and this one was solid. Had some creepy images and nice moments, but was mostly so entertaining that I would watch it again and again.
- DirectorMichael BayStarsRyan ReynoldsMélanie LaurentManuel Garcia-RulfoSix individuals from all around the globe, each the very best at what they do, have been chosen not only for their skill, but for a unique desire to delete their pasts to change the future.A netflix movie I didn't knew existed until they randomly put it up. Michael Bay blew up a lot of stuff, Shosanna's and Manuel Garcia-Rulfo's romance made me believe in love again and, oh yeah, Ryan Reynolds was in here too?
- DirectorRainer WolffhardtStarsKarl-Georg SaebischKurt HaarsOtto SternA group of travelers miss their connecting train and has to spend the night in a remote station which is said to be haunted by a ghost train. This one's a suprise actually. I stumbled upon it on Amazon Prime and enjoyed it a lot. It was suprisingly creepy at times and sometimes even funny.
