The pilot and his fellow pilots are told to embark on a mission, but initially not told their purpose or destination. Only later it is revealed that the destination is Hawaii, USA. Pearl Habour looms.

The young teacher's first week with her new students is enjoyable, but she gradually notices that many of the students are skipping school. Visiting her students' after class she realizes that many of them are charged with work and tasks like making money, toiling on the farm, doing housework or tending to their younger siblings. Many of them live in unhygienic homes due to poverty or overwork. She not only reports and explains the situation to the school's principal, but also attempts to improve the conditions by making textbooks, teaching cleanliness and making her classes relevant. With students still unhealthy she takes things one step further and takes the students to the ocean to procure oysters, to the mountain to dig up potatoes and generally help with their nutrition. One student, however, falls from the hill and is injured leading to an angry and complaining parent. The teacher is about to quit, but others are sure she means well and has helped more than anything or anyone.

Transpiring during the Southwestern War of 1877 in Japan, which was the last civil war in the country, a criminal escapes prison only to be found by a monk. The criminal decides to turn a new leaf based on their conversation and goes on to become a town's mayor. He hears news of a mistaken arrest and identity. The revelation of truth is the start of a series of miseries.

He is inspired for a ship's design at the performance. The film is inspired by the life of Jo Hiraga.

The parents ask the man to stay a couple of days and the soldier spends his time toiling and helping the elderly couple. He admits the truth, however, when he meets the teacher again. She is cross at him for his deception, but the dead friend's father appreciates the man's dilemma and how the soldier's intention has not upset his wife. The father also informs the soldier that it was his wish that his son marries the teacher once the war is over.

She falls in love with him, and when the neighbour's bird escapes and flies away, it is the next-door girl who finds and tends to it. He begins to have feelings for her and is soon head over heels as well. A friend of his meets the girl's parents in order to mediate the love birds' marriage, but instead makes the relationship tense based on a political argument. The man and woman are disappointed and the daughter declares her intention to become a nun if she cannot have her man. The parents relent, but their would-be son-in-law soon discovers that the businessman is importing arms from the UK destined for anti-government forces. It is he who is backing off now.
