Against the backdrop of life at Augustus' court the movie follows the arrival at Dresden of 24-year-old Anna Constantia von Brockdorff, who is an inordinately beautiful and scrupulously devout young married woman; her romance with the king and her "ten year reign" as his mistress - a role she consents to in the belief that she has won the king's love and commitment; and finally, her heartbreak, disillusion and struggle against him. The conflict between Anna and the king arises from the fact that Anna takes seriously not only the relationship, but the written promise of marriage which she manages to secure from him during their courtship. Neither the relationship nor the contract is held in much esteem by Augustus, who replaces her, as he has always done, with another mistress, as soon as she loses for him the charm of novelty. Her valiant refusal to return the marriage promissory note upon request enrages him and delivers her to her miserable fate.

- DirectorVladimir MotylStarsIrina KupchenkoAleksey BatalovNatalya BondarchukIn December 1825, distinguished members of the Russian military, most of whom were quite affluent and of noble lineage, took it upon themselves to stir revolution against the autocratic and tyrannical Czar Nikolai I in the wake of his not honoring (or even acknowledging) the drafting of a constitution for the Russian people. The revolution failed miserably and the conspirators (known as the Decembrists) were weeded out by the czar himself. One by one, each of the conspirators confess and are systematically exiled to the harsh winters of Siberia, slated to work and wither in a prison/mine. The wives of the conspirators are faced with the prospect of leaving the bosom of wealth and family (including their own children) to be with their husbands in the brutal Siberian locale. If they agree to this, they face having their illustrious social stations stripped away and certain disdain from everyone around them. Among these remarkable women is a princess exiled from France who falls in love with a man soon to be exiled. The film is the story of their unfathomable sacrifice and their dogged desire to be reunited with the men they love, despite the conditions and the circumstances.

- DirectorSergey GazarovStarsNikita MikhalkovMarina NeyolovaAnna MikhalkovaThis is a new screen adaptation of the famous satirical play «The Inspector General» («Revizor») by Nikolay Gogol, and it was Alexander Pushkin who gave the idea of the plot. The events take place in one of the small provincial Russian towns in the middle of the 19th century. Ivan Khlestakov, a young rake from Petersburg, passing through puts up at the local inn. He had lost all his money at gambling and has nothing to pay for accommodation and meals or for the road to his destination. But nevertheless he demands that all the services should be rendered. Rumours of the metropolitan insolent fellow reach the governor of the town who has already received the news of the official coming from Petersburg the day before. It is said that he will arrive in the town incognito with a thorough inspection. Being absolutely sure that Khlestakov is exactly the inspector whom they are waiting for, the governor invites the young man to his house and gives a luxurious reception in his honour together with all the local authorities. At first Khlestakov is a little bit embarrassed but very soon he feels rather comfortable in the place of a high-ranking bureaucrat, the more so it is very easy to twist the provincials round one's little finger. During less than two days of his benefit performance the main character is absolutely successful in eating, drinking his fill in the company of the local elite, taking bribes and presents and, besides, desperately flirting with both the governor's wife and daughter.

There are hopes of a reconciliation through a marriage of Pan Tadeusz, a Soplica, whose father, the murderer, is in hiding somewhere, and Zosia, a teen-aged girl, a Horeszko who lives in the household of Pan's uncle. Other cross-currents - of love, family, politics, village traditions, land reform, and what it means to be Polish - give the film texture. It's an exile's story.
