Overrated Movies and Shows
These are, in my opinion, the most overrated movies and TV shows i have ever seen or heard of. My opinion is entirely based on my own personal likes but as a former movie fan i always try to see what they have so special that makes people like them. But that is not the case in this list as this one contains those which i don't fully understand why they are so praised by everybody or by too many people (or that the reason that makes it stand out, in my opinion, are not that impressive to give it a high rating and praising). With that said, here it is...

- DirectorRichard DonnerStarsSean AstinJosh BrolinJeff CohenA group of young misfits called The Goonies discover an ancient map and set out on an adventure to find a legendary pirate's long-lost treasure."Forgettable but not without its merits". I have no idea why this movie is so popular still without attributing it to nostalgia. Something I sin from when rewatching childhood movies. However, what makes this one's subpar storytelling and filmmaking care has to do with the fact that at its helm three of the most prolific filmmakers (including my favorite director Steven Spielberg) manage to completely fail at basic storytelling full-circle elements and imaginative world-building. From completely omitting any sort of backstory for any of the many elements it uses as backbone for the emotinal payoffs like the moment the father rips the contract into a million pieces in the end of the movie or even the name of the Goonies themselves or the relationship between them and the house and the teenagers they hang out with. Or the fact that there's basically no build-up to anything to do with the town itself or the legend of the Pirate. They just happen upon it. I feel the movie misses establishing why these elements will be important later, what drives Sean Austin's character, why he had a longing for an adventure. Normally these are presented through his relationship with his family or the world around him, something these directors have done well in other similar child-oriented movies. The lack of presentation and the pacing of this movie is all over the place. It's at the level of a mediocre Disney Channel or Nickelodeon movie with a lower budget than the already lowered budget of this one. And it has nothing to do with stage design or anything like that, the traps look great, but they don't hold a emotional resonance to any of the kids, like in the first Harry Potter book, where each kid had a strength that they used to beat the different tests. I don't know, their heart was in the right place but I think they were having too much fun filming it to really consider some of the more bare bones or basic grounds in which the movie would stand. It expects you to go along with whatever is happening in the plot and I think that's a mistake, a more self-contained and carefully planned movie is always better than a "everything goes" sort of script. Even if it's intentional or a precursor to other movies of the genre. Being the first to start the trend doesn't exclude it from being judged just as well

- DirectorMichael GraceyStarsHugh JackmanMichelle WilliamsZac EfronCelebrates the birth of show business and tells of a visionary who rose from nothing to create a spectacle that became a worldwide sensation.Pandering, cliched, mediocre pop-adr-musical that is more concerned about doing what works instead of breaking the formula and daring to do something different. And the pop music that doesn't fit this era is harmful to its immersion. I don't understand why people like it so much, so many of the subplots presented are so offensively dismissed and added just so they can check some Hollywood diversity boxes while doing nothing with it but pander and add big names to it.

I chose to not like this movie. Is not that I hate everything in it, there are actually some things and visions of the director that i understand his choices, although I would never praise because they defy everything Star Wars (although classic-minded" and cheesy some times) stands for; but the fact is that this movie is a freaking mess from start to finish.
I could start enumerating everything wrong but I think you get the general idea: from the mistreatment of almost all of the best characters, old like Luke and new like Phasma or Snoke and of course god-damn Rey (characters who needed growth in this movie just to be either killed of or... seriously, rey's parents? There is no excuse, that reveal intended to be as shocking as the one of Darth Vader but failed MISERABLY as it destroys every single awesome cue that the Skywalker legacy would still live on fermented in the previosu movie), to the useless trip to the casino place and the fact that all the action takes place in a span of time of what, a day? a whole day for the pursuit of a basically fuelless ship? Not to mention the complete waste of new characters like Rose, who I thought would be a great diversed addition, but not like this, Not.Like.This... And all the plot conveniences, man i better stop or this is gonna go bad...
I have rewatched and tried to listen reason and to the voices of whom i consider the "professionals" of movies (the critics) but their opinions have fallen flat in my heart and childhood memories. Sure the lightsaber fights were awesome and cinematically speaking IT IS gorgeous... But it slaughters the plot trying to be unpredictable up to a point of ruining the whole trilogy. The director destroys everything J.J. Abrahams build so wonderfully in the force awakens for the sake of giving his own vision, not caring if it stays loyal to the character portrayals or the overall vision of them or the plot.
Seriously, you can shock us with twists and revealings of all sorts, but not on the core themes or, if you do so, do it without overall damaging the image we already have of those characters. The only, and this is really hard for me to say, the only exception i could understand would be Rey's parents... The twist, next to the ending, holds a deeper meaning of the force sensibility, wide-opening the doors for new "hero" possibilities and future jedis regardless of the family you were born in. And do please express that message, but not through Rey, it would have been awesome to send that message already just with the ending itself, why do you have to drag Rey into this?
Anyways, i got concrete, and if i had to pull out every messed up thing this could take lots of text. The point is that the linearity overall is violated to a point of cringing. The stain it left on the trilogy would hopefully be cleansed in episode 9 by the very same director that once had, if not great at least A CLEAR VISION of where to take this trilogy from moment one. Also to keep in mind that it is a fact, ever since Disney adquired Lucasfilms, that there WILL be lots and lots of trilogys both sequelling and prequelling and there will be chances for other directors to "give their visions" of the story, but don't Harry-Potter-multiple-directors franchise it because the result is a disaster. He may have done with the best of intentions to amaze us and all but it didn't work at least for the traditional-themed star wars fans.
P.S.:Message to Rian "Trilogy-destroyer" Johnson:" Luke is a freaking mess in this movie and if you are going to kill him of do it the jedi way, making him go there to face his failure/mistake and do one last REAL good deed before dying... Even old Ben Kenobi died fighting!" - DirectorJon WattsStarsTom HollandMichael KeatonRobert Downey Jr.Peter Parker balances his life as an ordinary high school student in Queens with his superhero alter-ego Spider-Man, and finds himself on the trail of a new menace prowling the skies of New York City.Alright, I totally understand why people like this new version of Spiderman and his first individual movie. The movie itself is a typical high-school teen romantic-comedy drama sort of with superhero stuff, to be honest that's about the ONLY good thing the movie has regarding the loyalty to the original themes in the ORIGINAL and ONLY source material: the Spiderman comics.
Spiderman comicbook series (specially "Amazing Spiderman", not the movies or animated series, the comicbook series) is like the Bible, the ultimate truth, the "last word" of everything Spiderman related. Having pointed that out, let's proceed to talk about the movie.
Since Civil War i saw that they "upgraded" Spiderman very fast and too soon. I personally don't care, although don't agree at all, if he ends up being a copycat of ironman with his own iron spider suit and being mentored by Tony Stark (who i think is the worst mentor a to-be superhero could have as he is selfish, arrogant and overall, not a real superhero *Yeap, i said it*); because through the years and the different portrayals of Spider-man in movies and series I have learned to grow up aware that the creators would try by all means to not stay loyal to the original content. Because that's what franchises do, they have a perfectly great story already invisioned but apparently portraying them EXACTLY AS THEY ARE in the source material is either boring or non-profitable for some reason. (i can understand, selling toys and all that for kids)
But the truth is, I can't agree with every decision in this movie but i can agree with some decisions. The original trilogy of movies did have some new additions, different from the source material, but they stayed truth to AT LEAST the character portrayals. And here me out, i'm not talking about race or physical aspect of the character, i meant their personlaities and how they influence in the main character or others.
As you might have realised by now I'm a huge SPiderman comicbook fan and was never entirely happy with all the portrayals of the character in the movies and so on. So every opinion i have is regarding this point of view so don't judge me if i come up somewhat unflexible. And again, some changes are a good addition to the movies and overall i am happy with the movie atmosphere and all but i just can't help but compare it to what i grew up with. Hearing the same names in different portrayals just doesn't add up in my mind and heart. So here are the things i don't agree on as a massive fan of Spiderman (but that regardless of that i accept as interesting for the future movies to come):- Aunt may is a mess, originally she is not sexy, she is not that young and she is not just a "casual mom" for Peter an definitely doesn't flirt with Tony Stark. She is a weak old lady whose heart and solidarity make her strong and is always an inspiration for Peter to be better, here she is a potential romantic interest and sexualised woman who has zero to no interest in inspiring Peter to be better.
- Iron Spider; since Civil war it was a bad idea, it doesn't let spiderman's actual powers shine because the suit does everything, whatever happened to thos long nights when Peter had to knit his own suits as he IS a relatable poor teen who has to sell pictures of spiderman to the bugle to earn some bucks to help his aunt pay rent. Not to worry with millionaire stepdad Tony Stark
- Ned freaking Leeds... Seriously? This character is a mixed between two super relevant characters in two different spiderman universes. trying not to spoil to much, originally Ned Leeds is a reporter of the daily bugle who gets involved in a love triangle with Peter and Betty Brant (another ignored love interest) and in the end he makes some decisions very IMPORTANT for the plot of SPiderman which won't happen in this new portrayal or if it does it would weird and absolutely stupid; and the character he emulates here is that of Ganke in the Miles morales spiderman universe, a close friend, "man in the chair"-type character. Not only does this decision steals the movies from unraveling some amazing things of the original Ned but it prevents the newly found knowledge that miles morales does exist in the actualy MCU of a friend and very important moral support for him if his character was ever to evolve and was not just an easter egg.
- Worst one for the end: Michelle "a.k.a. MJ", no freaking way... Mess with the rest of the characters, change their aspect, personality and motivations in the story, but don't freaking touch MJ. Her and Gwen Stacy are two PIVOTAL girls in Peter's life and they have a certain character and motivations that must be kept and respected. MJ is not freaking called Michelle, her name is Mary Jane Watson, even a 3 yearold knows that and she is definitely not a "rebel" emo weirdo girl. She is the heart and soul of the party, she is so sexy that when the other kids in school see a nerd like Peter hanging out with her makes them change their opinion about him and he even makes friends. I know these plot devices are products of their own time (70s) and it might be old-fashioned or even superficial but it is what it is. It is important for the development of both Peter and MJ alike (Peter gets somewhat inserted in "society" in High School and University and MJ learns that not everything in life is a party(i won't spoil anything but her attitude becomes a problem and she changes and matures))
Understandable/cringingly-acceptable decisions:- An african-american portraying Liz Allen: i said it once and will say it again, i don't care if she is brown, green, blue, from another planet, but she has a role in Peter Parker's universe: she is the school's popular girl who bored of the dumb popular boys develops an interest in the bookworms and becomes Peter's firs "love interest". *cringing while stating*The movie stays loyal to a lot of those things... So I can actually accept that change but man she was never a "clever girl", she was supposed to be the popular superficial girl turned honest an caring...
- Flash, the non-bully bully: same thing i stated just now, don't mind physical aspect of the most famous Peter Parker bully, but then again, he doesn't suppose much of a threat does he?
- Ned Leeds: like i said up, this character is a mix i dont quite understand but can come to accept because i like the role it is based on. But that's about it. The decision destroys two potential important characters for the future of these movies but whatever
- Vulture: meh, loyal portrayal, he's liz allen's dad? wtf... anyways, i guess it adds that drama to the plot but either ways my main concern was revolving his villain persona, and that was done correctly so i guess it checks out. (i would have never portayed him like a strong, forward unscientific trash cleaner knowing originally he is a great scientist, bird-looking and mistreated by big corporations. very similar to Doc oc)
SO like I said, as you can see my main areas of concern are the character portrayals, the overall plot and feel of the movie is totally spiderman (loyal to the source). But there's no room for Peter's superhero development because the presence of Tony Stark, physically and mentally, is always there. I personally hate Ironman as a superhero so imagine if he's always nagging and is a father figure to my favorite superhero. I guess unless i become a comicbook, movie or animated series writer i cannot change the outcome of the new media products of this great character.
Final conclusion, don't get me wrong i like where these movies are going and am looking forward character developments but just wanted to let you all know (the non comicbook readers) that you are missing alot of things of the original story if you have only watched the shows and movies, there's so much more to spiderman that it looks and even character decisions and motivations that change throughout the comics and even teach the readers in moral aspects. It sadens me that his original story will never be told entirely loyal... - DirectorGeorge A. RomeroStarsDavid EmgeKen ForeeScott H.
