60s Argentinean Cinema
25 films that provide an overview of the decade. The 60s were a crucial decade, a decade of departures. It saw the emergence of the first "Nuevo Cine Argentino" movement, now known as the "Generación del 60," which included filmmakers such as David José Kohon, Rodolfo Kuhn, Manuel Antin, José A. Martínez Suárez, and Ricardo Alventosa. (Alventosa's dark comedy _La herencia_ did not make it into the list, but I highly recommend it.) It was also in the 60s that a major force in Argentinean cinema began to direct films: I'm referring, of course, to Leonardo Favio, the chronicler of the small town if Kohon is the chronicler of the big city. Also worthy of mention is the directorial debut of another iconic actor, Lautaro Murúa. Leopoldo Torre Nilsson made what may be his best film, and Juan José Jusid made his first, which is brilliant. The list is in chronological order. My criteria: Argentinean productions or co-productions, made during the 60s, in Spanish. The idea is to give an overview of different genres and styles. Hence the inclusion of films that may not be cinematic masterpieces, but which nevertheless represent a particular approach.
