This little New Zealand horror gem has touches of the mystery and the supernatural (maybe). There's isn't a lot of spelling it out here. The film respects the viewier. If you stick with it, you will be rewarded and not mention there's some honest chills as well. - DirectorGuy MaddinStarsKyle McCullochGosia DobrowolskaSarah NevilleThe wary residents of a 19th century mountain village must tread carefully and speak softly lest they cause an avalanche. Sexual frenzies teem in this world of repression, setting off incestuous love triangles with deadly consequences.Rating of 7.1 with 950 users voting
I guess the Canadian in me just had to put one of the most creative directors Guy Maddin to come out of Canada since Cronenberg. Best not to know anything about this one and expect something very original, unusual, hypnotic and beautiful. - DirectorDaniel PyneStarsMiguel FerrerJohn LivingstonYasiin BeyAfter making a 3-hour fiasco about New York City's water supply, a two-man film crew decides to take it up a notch by documenting life in the private investigator offices of "Boone and Murphy".Rating of 5.9 with 397 users voting.
Dry Dark humored with a simple yet interesting premise. A documentary crew follows around a detective a la reality tv style to capture the on goings of his day to day life. How are they able to get a look into such on goings you might ask simply his partner and him are hard up for money. It's well written has good timing and some very inventive plot twists. - DirectorMichael AptedStarsRobert RedfordNorman ZigrossiRobert SikmaThis film describes the events surrounding a 1975 shootout at the Pine Ridge reservation in S. Dakota where two FBI agents were killed.Rating of 7.2 with 469 users voting
Great documentary that rarely gets a flicker of interest. - DirectorJohn McNaughtonStarsRae Dawn ChongDon GordonTom TowlesAliens punish one of their own by sending him to earth. The alien is very violent, and when the body he occupies is damaged, he is forced to find another.Rating of 5.3 with 527 users voting
From the director who brought you Henry Portrait of a Serial Killer and Wild Things brings to you this wacky Sci-Fi Horror cross breed with a big dose of camp and over the top insanity. It reminded me of another great Sci-Fi horror of the time The Hidden (1987) - DirectorPatrick Sheane DuncanStarsJonathan EmersonNicholas CasconeJason TomlinsThe title refers to the U.S. Army's former "MOS" (job code) for a combat cameraman. The story follows a unit of American G.I.s in Vietnam, all with different backgrounds and motives for being there, through the lens of his camera.Rating of 6.9 with 834 users voting
High concept: take an army camera man stick him in the vietnam war and only show his prespective.
It's these one idea high concept films that are hard to pull off. I won't claim the film fully realizies or fully capitalizes on the idea. Nother the less its an intresting examination that is put to better use then say Lady in the Lake which followed a simular idea of capturing the main characters point of view throughtout the film. - DirectorEric RedStarsRoy ScheiderAdam BaldwinHarley CrossWhen a little boy witnesses a mob hit, he is kidnapped by two professional assassins who are not what they seem.Rating of 6.2 with 689 users voting
I think Eric Red is one of those untaped misunderstood talents this being his most criminally over looked. - DirectorWilliam FriedkinStarsMichael BiehnAlex McArthurNicholas CampbellAlex is an outwardly normal man who goes on killing and mutilating sprees. When he is finally captured and brought to trial, the district attorney is torn between his own liberal ideals on guilt and the crimes the accused is being tried.Rating of 6.4 with 644 users voting
Back when Friedkin was still making interesting and important films. It's a bit cobbled together but I forgive it for it was in production hell for sometime. - DirectorBill ForsythStarsBill PatersonEleanor DavidClare GroganAlan Bird witnesses how an ice cream van is attacked and destroyed by an angry competitor. This leads him into the struggle between two Italian families, the Bernardis and the Rossis, over whose ice cream vans can sell where in Glasgow.Rating of 6.8 with 651 users voting

I really should watch this again. The only problem is it's really hard to find. Director by James Bridges with one of my all time favorite actors Debra Winger. - DirectorPo-Chih LeongStarsDavid YipLucy SheenRobert LeeA Chinese lawyer tries to execute the will of Sam Wong.Rating of 5.6 with 37 users voting
Quirky comedic take on the film noir. Find and enjoy. - DirectorWayne WangStarsWood MoyMarc HayashiLaureen ChewTwo cab drivers search San Francisco's Chinatown for the mysterious Chan, who disappeared with their $4000.Rating of 6.8 with 486 users voting
What the heck happened to Wayne Wang?
So promising. First Chan is Missing; a retro black and white neo noir Then came Slam Dance a bit heavy handed yet stylistically brillant then came Eat a Bowl of Tea which could easy make this list as well, his masterpiece came next in the image of The Joy Luck Club powerful poetic with tons of heart what followed was two uneven playful cinematic experiments in Blue in the Face and Smoke. I will admit his latest stuff looks intriguing. Anyone seen any of them ? I would love to here your input on them. - DirectorPeter BogdanovichStarsAudrey HepburnBen GazzaraPatti HansenA madcap private-eye caper about a team of detectives who are following, and are being followed by, a group of beautiful women.Rating of 6.2 with 866 users voting
I wasn't expecting to put this film on the list when looking it up. I was honestly shocked. More people need to check this out. It's a modernized screwballish comedy from writer director Bogdanovich. - DirectorAlan J. PakulaStarsJane FondaKris KristoffersonHume CronynThe wife of a murdered petrochemical company chairman and a banker investigating the liquidity of his new bank stumble upon an international financial scheme that could lead to global economic collapse.Rating of 5.3 with 532 users voting
A strange mix match of Political drama and thriller. I've always though it had a strange atmosphere of Sci-fi to it by director Pakula. - DirectorRichard DonnerStarsJohn SavageDavid MorseDiana ScarwidHandicapped after an unsuccessful suicide attempt, a man finds common ground in the troubled souls at a local dive bar.Rating of 7.2 with 749 users voting
I wish Donner had kept on making these smaller projects in between his big films atlas we've only got this, Radio Flyer and dare I say Scrooged to have.
