- DirectorChristopher NolanStarsChristian BaleMichael CaineKen WatanabeAfter witnessing his parents' death, Bruce learns the art of fighting to confront injustice. When he returns to Gotham as Batman, he must stop a secret society that intends to destroy the city."The Dark Knight" was perfect in every aspect, and so is "Batman Begins," but the beginning is always the hardest, and I think that "Batman Begins" was a perfect beginning. Weren't for "Batman Begins," there wouldn't be "The Dark Knight."
- DirectorChristopher NolanStarsChristian BaleHeath LedgerAaron EckhartWhen the menace known as the Joker wreaks havoc and chaos on the people of Gotham, Batman must accept one of the greatest psychological and physical tests of his ability to fight injustice. We all know that it's one of the best superhero films out there. I would say that this is the genius Christopher Nolan's masterpiece, but that'll always be "Inception." "The Dark Knight" captivated audiences with its sprawling performances from all of its actors, incredible special effects, magnificent direction, pitch-perfect score. It should have been nominated for Best Picture.
- DirectorSam RaimiStarsTobey MaguireKirsten DunstAlfred MolinaPeter Parker is beset with troubles in his failing personal life as he battles a former brilliant scientist named Otto Octavius. The first Spider-Man was a bit quirky and not as good as it could have been, although still very entertaining, but with "Spider-Man 2," director Sam Raimi and screenwriter Alvin Sargent have created a superhero movie for the ages. From Danny Elfman's beautiful, catchy score, to the pitch-perfect performances of its talented cast, "Spider-Man 2" succeeds in every level that a comic-book movie should.
- DirectorZack SnyderStarsJackie Earle HaleyPatrick WilsonCarla GuginoIn a version of 1985 where superheroes exist, the murder of a colleague sends active vigilante Rorschach on the trail of a conspiracy that will change the course of history. It's perhaps a bit too confusing, a tad not too narrative, but Zack Snyder's visual masterpiece succeeds in entertaining the viewer throughout the movie with its fitting performances and the sheer awesomeness of the premise. "Watchmen" entertains, especially considering its long running time of 3½ hours.
- DirectorMatthew VaughnStarsJames McAvoyMichael FassbenderJennifer LawrenceIn the 1960s, superpowered humans Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr work together to find others like them, but Erik's vengeful pursuit of an ambitious mutant who ruined his life causes a schism to divide them.Bryan Singer's "X-Men" and "X-Men 2: X-Men United," weren't normal superhero movies. They were perhaps a bit too serious apart from Wolverine's character, but still largely entertaining due to its great atmosphere. Matthew Vaughn's "X-Men: First Class," however, is the best in the series. James McAvoy's charismatic portrayal of Charles Xavier, Michael Fassbender's equally charismatic portrayal of Eric Lehnsherr, the great performances from the rest of the cast, the awesome score, the great visuals, and most important, its not-too-serious tone make "X-Men: First Class" a great superhero movie.
- DirectorKenneth BranaghStarsChris HemsworthAnthony HopkinsNatalie PortmanThe powerful but arrogant god Thor is cast out of Asgard to live amongst humans in Midgard (Earth), where he soon becomes one of their finest defenders. They're building up the Marvel Cinematic universe for the Avengers movie, and "Thor" is so far the best of the preludes for it. Unlike "Iron Man," "Thor" doesn't rely on the charm of its lead, which is still here, but instead on the Shakespearean atmosphere that director Kenneth Branagh creates. The most important thing in a movie, I think, is its atmosphere, and the hot New Mexican desert and the epic Asgard are very atmospherical here. Also, Chris Hemsworth is way better as Thor than Robert Downey Jr. is as Iron Man.
- DirectorBryan SingerStarsPatrick StewartHugh JackmanHalle BerryWhen anti-mutant Colonel William Stryker kidnaps Professor X and attacks his school, the X-Men must ally with their archenemy Magneto to stop him.The first X-Men was smaller in scale than "X-Men 2: X-Men United," actually, smaller in every aspect possible. There are more mutants here, more atmosphere here, more running time here, and I just can't resist Brian Cox's brilliant portrayal of William Stryker. "X-Men 2: X-Men United" is epic.
- DirectorSam RaimiStarsTobey MaguireKirsten DunstWillem DafoeAfter being bitten by a genetically-modified spider, a shy teenager gains spider-like abilities that he uses to fight injustice as a masked superhero and face a vengeful enemy.Perhaps a bit too quirky and the visuals aren't exactly what you'd call 'good,' but "Spider-Man" won me over with Tobey Maguire's performance as the title character, and the sheer power of Willem Dafoe's portrayal of the Green Goblin, who I think should have a movie of his own.
- DirectorStephen NorringtonStarsSean ConneryStuart TownsendPeta WilsonIn an alternate Victorian Age world, a group of famous contemporary fantasy, science fiction, and adventure characters team up on a secret mission.I have a weakness for B-movie characters. In the WildStorm/DC Comics-based "League of Extraordinary Gentlemen," they're pretty much all put to display. It's also very atmospherical.
Atmosphere... Me like. - DirectorJon FavreauStarsRobert Downey Jr.Mickey RourkeGwyneth PaltrowWith the world now aware of his identity as Iron Man, Tony Stark must contend with both his declining health and a vengeful mad man with ties to his father's legacy.Way better than "Iron Man," Jon Favreau and Robert Downey Jr.'s team work created a brilliant superhero movie. It isn't perfect as a superhero movie, but for a prelude to "The Avengers," it is. Not as good as "Thor" though.
- DirectorChristopher NolanStarsChristian BaleTom HardyAnne HathawayEight years after the Joker's reign of chaos, Batman is coerced out of exile with the assistance of the mysterious Selina Kyle in order to defend Gotham City from the vicious guerrilla terrorist Bane.C'mon, you know it's gonna be number one/two/three when its released. Why not give it a head start already?
