- PanchaTantra started out as a concept for an experimental/silent short film. The goal was to tell a compelling, human story without relying on traditional human tropes. The film explores the cyclical and, sometimes, mundane nature of life and universal concepts like love, loss, yearning, and nostalgia. Eventually, this concept evolved into a music video idea that had found the perfect companion in a great song by an up and coming Los Angeles band. Though the video only took two days to film, because it was practically a no budget production the editing process stretched into a nearly 6 month process - color keying, rotoscoping, and motion tracking can be a very time consuming endeavor. Unfortunately for us (and fortunately for the band), in the time it took to edit the video the song had gone viral on SoundCloud, and with record label interest, just as we were nearing completion of the video, the band was unable to move forward with any "official" video releases. After having invested so much time and effort into the project, we at Flying Pig Army decided there must be a way to save the video. Armed with our original concept, and some great footage, we went back to the drawing board and after several edits and re-edits emerged with a final video that has exceeded even our own expectations. After all the challenges this project encountered we are happy to say that we truly feel the finished product is not only the best incarnation of PanchaTantra, but the one it was always meant to be. Most people that watch the film enjoy it for the visuals, but look deeper and you will find there is a narrative, there is a message, there is meaning.
