- The legendary hero, Rustam, and his son Sukhrab, worthy of the glory of his father, fight with each other without knowing that they are father and son.
- The setting is Central Asia during the Russian civil war. In the post-revolutionary twenties, when the power in European Russia was (officially) "fully in the hands of the workers and peasants", but the fight against the Basmachi rebels was in full swing. They are forced to fight on the mountain ridges as well as negotiate the natural dangers and harsh elements.

The film reflects the time during ruled Emir Muzaffar (1860-1885), where Ahmad Donish was appointed as the delegation's consultant (1869-1870) in St. Petersburg to reestablish ties between Emir and Russia. To accomplish those historical events of traveling Ahmad Donish from Bukhara to St. Petersburg, Russia, the film was made by two USSR film studios working in collaboration with each other, Tajikfilm (based in Dushanbe, Tajikistan) and Lenfilm (based in St. Petersburg, Russia).
