- The film sends us to the 17th century when Bulgaria was a part of the Ottoman Empire. Four hoodlums break into the house of the shepherd Karaivan, raping and killing his wife in full view of their little girl, Maria. Karaivan decides to take the law into his own hands and becomes enslaved by his violent wish for revenge. He burns their house with his wife's body inside and abandons the gentle life they had shared, choosing instead to take his daughter to live in a rough hut high in the hills. He raises Maria as a boy, training her to fight so that she can kill in cold blood and help her father avenge her mother's murder. Nine years pass before the two locate and kill three of the four perpetrators. At each body they leave a goat horn as the symbol of their revenge. While on a mission to kill the last one at his rich oriental house, Maria becomes the unwitting witness of a love scene and change comes over her. Now, from time to time she secretly dons a beautiful women dress and exults in her newly found femininity. She falls in love with young shepherd and the hate begins to melt from her heart. When Karaivan discovers the change that is taking place in her it is already late. He tries to bring Maria back to him and their life of revenge, with disastrous results.
- Prof. Denev is a talented scientist, but he cannot divide his time between the social and the scientific life. Suddenly he gets the idea to bring his cousin Ivan from the village. They look exactly alike. Ivan makes appearances at social events while the professor is working on his research. Initially not very confident, but with enthusiasm Ivan carries out his duties and his desire for material gains becomes huge. When the double threatens Denev's personal life, he throws him out.
- Victor Jara is one of the most popular singers in Chile. In 1973 he is arrested by the military and his body is found dead.
- Young literature teacher starts at the evening school. Her students are people with various professions who wish to complete their education. They are grown-up with different characters, with problems in both their personal and professional lives. In order to get to know them better, she assigns a paper with topic 'The Kindest Person I Know'. What her students write is candid and comes from their hearts. The teacher probes deeply into their pain and concerns; she tries to understand and help her students. The things she learns about life give a new meaning to her moral criteria.
- The day that the financial clerk Metodi Rashkov is getting retired comes. He is a shy and quiet man and he accepts all tasks given to him by his son and daughter in law without argument. With time, he becomes a housekeeper; he shops, cooks and looks after his grandson. In order to save his face in front of his friends he lies to them and falls in a number of uncomfortable situations. The "Expolsion" becomes imminent. The reason is insignificant but with great consequences. Rashkov leaves his home. Soon the freedom which he wanted becomes boring for him. The abandoned family begins to miss the grandfather. At the end everyone sees their mistakes and is ready to fix them. The birth of a second grandson is the event which brings everyone under the same roof again.
- Todor Primov is an officer of the royal army who changes sides and goes over to the partisans. After the war, he graduates in engineering and is appointed manager of several construction projects. His car crashes on the eve of March 13. After his recovery, Primov resumes his work. Yet, secret information starts leaking from the projects and some serious accidents occur. Andrey, who befriended Todor Primov back in the partisan unit, goes to investigate the causes. He knows that Todor was colored-blind while this engineer distinguished colors. Andrey manages to get at the truth: Parvan Primov, Todor's twin brother, has made the car crash. On that night he killed his brother and took his place...
- In September 1944, the red army crosses the Danube. Private Ales together with his agricultural horses follows the victory march. A broken wheel of his cart forces Ales to fall behind and look for help in the nearby village. The "odyssey" of the common cavalry soldier begins. He becomes a friend with the Bulgarian peasants. They need to part ways with a hidden sadness and true love.
- The young pianist Thomas Harvey finds the brig "Hurrying through the Waves". After a brawl, Harvey is abandoned alone in a lifeboat, cut adrift from its moorings. By a miracle, a fair maiden appears in the boat. She reassures him. Anglers salvage Harvey. There is a charming girl among them: Daisy. They tell him the legend of the nocturnal rescuer, Frasie Grand, who rushes through the waves. All sailors in distress have regarded her as a symbol. People have raised a monument to her. By the end of the carnival, Harvey sees yet another crime in progress: the demolition of the Monument to the Hurrying through the Waves. He is the only one to confront the rampaging mob. Harvey once again meets the little sweet Daisy who shares his dream.
- In a provincial town comes Elena -young actress. Soon she meets Ivan, who is the same age as her and who works at the construction site. In order to be a part of her world he agrees to pay as stand-in for a movie in which she has a small role. During the premiere, the actor gets all the fame and the stand-in stay unnoticed.

- Dressed up like a 'Swedish king', a thick wad of bank notes in his pocket, the worker Spas has decided to have a holiday of his life at a fashionable seaside resort. It turns out, however, that he feels lonely and unhappy at the resort of his dreams and, before his holiday is over, he goes back to the construction site, to his friends and fellow-workers without having found what he has dreamed of. The worker fails to find his feet at the seaside resort among the white Mercedes cars and elegant women, though he is prepared to throw about a lot of money. The only thing he knows how to do well is work.
- In September 1923 a "red" uprising in Bulgaria is crushed and drowned in blood. A year and a half later a bomb planted by left-wing terrorists explodes in the St Nedelya Church in Sofia where the cream of society has gathered. One hundred and fifty people are killed and three hundred sustain serious injuries. The Tsar and some government ministries escape because their arrival in church is delayed. In an atmosphere of unbridled "white" terror a large number of left thinking people get blacklisted by the police. The failure of the attempt on the life of Tsar provides a pretext for further atrocities. The passing of the iniquitous State Defense Act is a prelude to latter-day St Bartholomew's Day Massacre, unprecedented in twentieth-century Europe. The extremely complex political situation caused certain ultra-left forces to resort to individual terrorism. While examining the reasons for this erroneous decision, the filmmakers denounce the social system and policies, which led to terror. The facts forming the basis of the story afford a number of parallels with certain contemporary events in the world.
- The young doctor Evgeni offers the student girl Magda a spare ticket for the concert. A week later, the young couple goes to the skiing vacation. Three month later, they fall out, as Magda believes that Evgeni is hopelessly indecisive. He leaves for a small miner village. At first, he refers even the easiest cases to the town hospital. Gradually, Evgeni has to share in the responsibility. Coping successfully with two serious boosts his confidence in his own strength and skills. People trust him. Three years later, Evgeni comes back to Sofia and ring to Magda. He is sure of what he wants from the life and of what he can give to it.
- Abundant supplies of imported vaccine prove ineffective against an outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease epidemic in several population centers. Warehouse manager Rashkov has been found dead. Major Zahov has to investigate the case. Rashkov has been poisoned. The "unidentified person" has poured poison into his water glass, has taken a document identifying the real saboteur and has vanished. The "unidentified person" turns out to be Irina, a young and beautiful assistant employed in the office. She has been blackmailed into becoming a reluctant murderer. Torn between his professional duty and his emotional involvement with the girl, Zahov experiences a personal drama, but he unravels the whole truth about the crime. At midnight, when he arrests the arch saboteur, Zahov loses Irina who commits suicide.
- Stoyan is among the organizers of the cooperative farm in his village. A man of principle, he gets to grips with a difficult problems, but also commits some serious errors. Stoyan rescue a boy from a snowdrift, but has an accident and is seriously injured. Friends and relations come to see him. Stoyan takes his leave of them and memories rush upon him: the triumphs and the setbacks, the grief and the joy.
- Mityo Ganev is a leader of the armed bandits. The authorities accuse the Communists of his robberies. The detachment commander, Chalaka, and Mityo Ganev have a meeting but fail to reach an agreement. The police burn out Mityo's house and send his mother into internal exile. Chalaka cuts him off from his logistical support base. Mityo agrees to join the partisan detachment. Mityo and Velyo hold up the paymaster of the army garrison. When they take the money, Mityo wants to give it to the family of the exiles. Enraged, Velyo hands the detachment over to the Colonel. Mityo kills the traitor. The police and he army launch a major operation against the partisans. In a fierce battle, Chalaka leads the detachment out of encirclement while Mityo covers their retreat. A bullet hits him.
- The German Schneider has long been looking for a coin known to have been struck in Bulgaria. He decides to spend his summer holiday there. On the road, a rock group going on a tour to Bulgaria overtakes him. The musicians' car breaks out and Schneider tows it to the nearest garage. At the border, the Bulgarian musicians welcome their German colleagues. Schneider meets the singer Yana and offers to give her lift to the seaside. The collector discovers that she wears the ancient coin on a chain round her neck. Yana and Schneider fall in love and thus put behind them all their differences over the ancient coin. The Yana's concert is a smashing success. Schneider and Yana leave Bulgaria together.
