- An actor becomes a stay-at-home father so his wife can pursue her career.
- When Simon Ferguson (Tim Curry) is fired from a soap opera, he decides to crash with ex-wife Hadley Martin (Annie Potts) at the Manhattan hotel that she runs.
- An American television sitcom starring Gregory Hines as a publishing agent and widower, who's dedicated to raising his 12-year old son Matty (Brandon Hammond) along with returning to the dating scene following a year and a half absence. The series premiered September 15, 1997 on CBS, and began airing regularly on Friday nights as part of the networks "Block Party". The series ended on February 27, 1998 after airing 15 of the 22 episodes produced.
- Abby has a complicated life. She dumps Will, her charming, but egocentric jock boyfriend only to agree to remain roommates in order to keep their inexpensive, rent controlled apartment in San Francisco.

- Paige's parents find out that she and Matty have kissed. Her parents don't like how Ben is raising Marty and forbid Paige to see Matty again.
- Ben think's his brother's girlfriend (Gina Torres) is coming on to him at a party. Later she wants to meet with Ben in his office to discuss a book she is writing.
- Ben and Carl are upset that their dad has been seeing a woman behind their backs, and she is Ben's neighbor. Matty gets a job in a restaurant folding napkins.
- Matty is bragging on how his dad, Ben, defended them from a mugger. Ben then gets sued by the mugger for injuries to his body. (unaired)
- Ben's friends try to fix him up with a date who turns out a bit wacky. Ben then asks a Elizabeth from upstairs to go out but worries that Matty may have trouble with him dating.
- Ben's sister-in-law Julia is back in town after skipping town on him while owing him money. She now has the money and says she is trying to change. (unaired)
- Ben shops for a bedroom lamp but ends up buying a new couch from a beautiful sales lady. Matty is unhappy that a new couch was bought when he wants a new mini-bike.
- Matty wants to go to Funk-Fest with his Uncle Carl but it is the same day he is supposed to go to Bugsco with his dad. Ben then finds out that Matty broke up with Paige and his Uncle already knew.
- Matty and his friend Weitzman both fall for the daughter of Ben's competitive high-school pal Michael (Clifton Davis). Meanwhile Ben and Michael try to out do each other in athletic events.
- Ben leads a fund-raising auction for Matty's Choir to go to Washington D.C. to sing at a national competition. Ben's brother Carl is working with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
- Ben likes a manuscript about Princess Wahunthra and wants to publish the story. Unfortunately after meeting the author Ben wants more than to publish her. (unaired)
- After Gwen is bitten by the acting bug, Hadley decides to re-establish her acting career while Simon re-evaluates his. Meanwhile Yorgo tries to convince his friends to murder his brother.
- When Hadley introduces "Sports Sunday" at the hotel, Yorgo gets upset and Simon gets into a fight with a group of bullies. Meanwhile Rose flips out when she learns her ex-fiancée, Erik Estrada, is rooming in the honeymoon suite; and Gwen gets tricked into a date with her dorky Spanish partner Jesse.
- A down on his luck Simon visits his ex-wife Hadley and it soon becomes clear to her why their marriage only lasted 12 days.
- Simon hires Hadley as his publicist, but when she fails to get him the publicity he desires, he fakes his death. Meanwhile, Robert attempts to get closer to Hadley by bonding with Daniel, and Yorgo goes on an American vacation.
- Simon is hired back on the soap opera, but soon realizes he'll have to sleep with the sister of the head of the network to keep his job.
- Simon and Hadley's old friend Justin arrives in New York with plans to steal a role away from Simon.
- Hadley's mother Dolly lures her to Chattanooga with a promise of bringing home a prized Armour, but the real plan is to reveal her impending nuptials. Meanwhile, Rose and Yorgo behave like a quarreling couple when they're left in charge of the kids.
- Matty gets a 'B' on a test, which is the lowest grade in his group, and he thinks he isn't smart. Ben then tries to come up with creative ways for Matty to prepare for an upcoming history test. (unaired)
- Ben and Kyra are having an awkward relationship but they attend a Volunteer of the Year Award ceremony that Carl is up for. (Unaired)
- A newspaper reviewer visits the hotel and has a wonderful time... until Simon knocks him unconscious and gives him amnesia. Meanwhile, Gwen tries to score tickets to a Beck concert.
- Simon directs and stars in Daniel's school play; Rose gives Gwen advice about boys.
- When Gwen throws a party, she butts heads with Daniel over fire safety issues, Yorgo over the food, and Simon winds up hijacking the shindig. Meanwhile Hadley goes on a date with Robert.
- After Daniel gets in a fight with a condescending peer, Simon tries to rig the spelling bee. Meanwhile, Yorgo tries to work up the nerve to ask out Linda, the mail carrier.
