Night Hunters (2019)
Oh boy.
I think like others who have watched this, I watched in MST3K S13. That is the only way that I could have possibly gotten through this. I wouldn't suggest anyone raw dog this.
The overacting felt insulting. The shaky camera was dizzying. The sets were extremely low budget making it look like a student film. Lighting in many scenes was practically forgotten. Movies this bad usually have a certain charm about them, but honestly this one didn't have anything. It struck me that the production didn't enjoy making it.
It is described as film noir. I wouldn't, unless you count one or two lazy archetypes trying to achieve that.
The prosthetic makeup was I guess the only positive. A good showcase for the films make up artist.
Hijack (2023)
The sheer incompetence of everyone is astounding
Consider a scenario: Two of your country's most dangerous criminals have been released as a demand by from terrorists who have hijacked an airplane. They climb into a car. And the full might of the UK government with support at the highest level is unable to track the car or the people in it. And yet somehow are able to successfully prevent any leaks about the hijacking until the
The same hijackers who plan every detail of the hijacking, but don't know that someone needs to be on the radio with air traffic controllers fairly consistently.
Or what about a hijacked airliner that only has a brief NATO escort? Did NATO and multiple countries decide it's ok for a hijacked airliner to fly from Romania to the Channel without an escort?
And uh sorry but why are UK ATC the ones charged with calling the passengers? And how can a controller distinguish between an airliner flying straight towards London from one flying towards Heathrow at a distance of 150-200 miles? Early on a 3 degree deviation "must be bad weather" but in later episodes it's a definite threat towards the capital?
And once it does get out, all the media can do is report about the Airline's share price.
And how is it that the airplane takes so long to fly over London? In the real world it will take 4-5 minutes. In the finale episode, its 40-50 minutes with no obvious signs of turning. And again where are the escort fight planes? Another pilot following has a far better chance of guiding an airliner down safely than an ATC who only has radar.
The over use of suspense makes it all boring, and the degree to which you need to suspend any belief is ridiculous.
I don't really know why I watched more than the second episode, except to enjoy Idris Elba - the only saving grace for this.
Collide (2022)
Really not good
Wife and I were convinced to watch it when it had an 8.2 rating on IMDB, and the plot sounded a decent. We could not make it more than 20 minutes through it. The characters, acting, pacing and bizarre use of a shakey cam all contributed to our confusion. It felt like a first draft that was accidentally released.
