300 (2006)
300 brilliant
what can i say 300 was amazing the Battle scenes although not historically accurate were amazing. the slow mo may have been used a little to much but only a little, the fight's were graceful almost like a dance. The slow mo really lets you appreciate the full level of carnage that the spartans inflict. the acting was solid throughout and butler is very convincing as leonadis. overall the film looks beautiful with a great musical score and has enough slow-mo limb chopping carnage to satisfy even the gore hounds. don't think it detracts from the film as with out it the action would be to fast and you wouldn't be able to appreciate the full carnage as you'd miss half of it. this film is inventive funny and definitely worth watching. if your a fan of Miller's work then you'll be in heaven as this the most faithful adaptation yet ,however even if your not familiar with miller you should still see this movie.
The Matrix Reloaded (2003)
matrix,reloaded /cool or crap
first of all i wish people would just leave this film alone, there is nothing wrong with it. yes it has a complex story but if it didn't it wouldn't fit with the matrix which is a complex concept. there is a lot of story in this film but it is all necessary as with out it it would just be another soulless action flick, and those people that claim that the action is just more of the same are just being argumentative i mean some of the set peaces in this movie are just jaw dropping in there execution and flawless in there sense of style. take for example the fight with the Myrvyn's Hench men they fully explore the use of 3 dimensional space in the fight scene shrugging of gravity and really having some fun, then there are the twins which are fresh and new. as well as the one hundred smith fight to be honest i love reloaded and don't mid about the amount of screen time devoted to the plot as i think it is necessary to set up the climax of revolution.
Black (2006)
black summary**contains spoiler**
criteron games i thank you for giving us one of the most enjoyable shooters since halo. The physics work perfectly, explosions rock the screen sending bits of dust and debris flying of, buildings collapse ,pillers fall, the world around you exp loads in a hail of gunfire and rockets this is how fps games should feel. unlike halo the protagonists of this game are set in a real world (sort of} hunting down terrorists called seventh wave. The cut scene's before each level are shot using actors, and are very well directed with the scenes taking the form of an interrogation. The tension in this game reminds me of the first time i played halo, with enemy's everywhere,do not be fool'd this game is not easy but it is rewarding try to unlock black ops mode by completing the game on hard and earning the silver weapons and you'll see what i mean. some of the later levels such as crossing an enemy infested bridge with road blocks and lots of rpg's are challenging but so much fun. i only have to gripes one why isn't there a jump button two why no multi player.
Ong-Bak (2003)
ong bak is amazing
ong bak is with out a doubt the best martial arts film that i have ever seen. the action is awe inspiring it just made me go wow. the slogan no stunt doubles no cgi no wire work was a big draw and it makes you see jaas martial arts expertise in a whole new light. jaa reputation as the next martial arts superstar is well deserved after watching ong bak i walked away with a feeling that no other fight film had left me with it was inspirational ong bak is such a beautifully crafted film which really gives muthie the platform it deserves. tony jaa has proved that hes more than capable of taking over from my martial arts hero jet Li as his carer is ending, jaas is just beginning and what a carer its gonna be. what with audiences eagerly awaiting the release of jaas follow up the warrior king which looks amazing i cant wait for more tony jaa.
Unleashed (2005)
jet li-mind body kick ass moves
what can i say, this is without a doubt one of the finest movies that jet-li has made since he started working in . indeed the only other Hollywood film he's made that can , compare is 2001's kiss of the dragon, which was a delicately crafted balance of story and mind blowing action. in that respect unleashed is very similar sporting a strong cast including Morgan freeman and bob Hoskins. bob hoskins is particularly good as the greedy sadistic gangster Bart who has raised Danny(jet li) from a little boy keeping him caged up in a ware house treating him like a dog then using him to fight. the action kicks in very quickly with li still proving that he is the master of all things kick ass. but its li's acting that really shows through here, the character are strong and you really fell a deep connection. moreover Morgan freeman as Sam the blind piano tuner really adds a layer of class to the performances. the action is spot on with several brilliant set peaces like an exclusive underground boxing club where you fight to the death or the films brutal climax where wave after wave of thugs storm the building ready to be dispathced but in the end it all comes down to a fight with a mysterious machete wielding bald man robed in white. as far as I'm concern there is only one verdict ten out of ten
