I may be a tad older than the 'average' reviewer here, and I found this film to be the kind of film that takes me back to a delightful bygone era. I was born the same year this film was produced.
Viewing this film was like removing all the crud that I have to listen to in today's so-called 'News' and takes me back to a time when things were far simpler; and when our own government, just beginning to stand up again after WWII, was able to provide us with this beautiful story. Who would not want to trade their mixed-up and overly complex lives, to live and work in a small Idaho town? Oh, sure, some may long for the bustle of City Life; but name a city, right now, that is not infested with crime and drugs that pull down the basic fabric of the Society that our Veterans fought and died for!
The beautiful simplicity of Life in Larksberg beckoned to me in this film. A chance to rid yourself of a scheming wife who wants to kill you; and replace that awfulness for another life, and another cutie, who truly cares for you and for your values and ability to work with your brain and your hands?
Then, killer himself meets a sad ending to his life; making room for others who CAN find their own positive way through life! The entirety of this film brought me close to tears -- with hope. Hope to, perhaps better my own life. Now, is that worth a measly two hours of YOUR time? It was for me.
The past isn't just old fuddy-duddy stuff! I just purchased the same make and model of slide-rule that I used to own, and I'm thrilled with it! It's fun, it's fast, it's outdated, I love it, and I can check my answers with a modern 'calculator'. The past is there for all of us to appreciate -- even if you don't/can't or never got the 'cutie' of your dreams who truly cares for you!
