A better cinematic experience than Dune part 2
14 April 2024
I felt more emotionally connected, more excited, I saw better action, it had better editing and more memorable soundtrack than soooo many bloated blockbusters...

See it in Cinemas, it will be a fantastic experience.

Even a simple purse stealing act in this film was more memorable than the entire Dune part 2.

I wanted this film to be 4 hours long so that i eventually pass out on my chair of overexcitement and awe.

Absolutely amazing job as first time director and also fabulous acting for a leading role in an action movie for Dave Pattel.

There are a few montages that you can watch over and over again, definetly on my multiple rewatch short list.

Don't expect The Raid and John Wick, it borrows from them but it's his own thing.

A unique film, see it ASAP.

All over the place...
21 July 2023
The bar was already set too high by the previous installment, but I really wasn't expecting so many MAJOR flaws...

Excessive use of deus-ex machina (even for a franchise like MI), very weird decision of character replacement (I guess because of some unknown behind the scenes issues, otherwise it doesn't make any sense to me) , weak/lazy hand to hand combat (worst than tv show combat at times), no new cool/memorable gadgets/tech, WAY too much importance and screen time for a new/underserving character.

I had a great time seeing this film in theater because of the sound effects, soundtrack and a couple of memorable action set pieces.

Hopefully the team making the next one / final one will learn from these mistakes (or maybe they just held their punches on this one to save something really amazing for later) and conclude the saga with the biggest bang yet.

Not worthy of the "Knives Out" tag
3 January 2023
The bar was set very high by 2019's Knives Out, so I lowered/tempered my expectations accordingly, before seeing this one. Nevertheless, I was still very disappointed by the time the credits rolled for the new Knives Out "Mystery".

The first hour of the film is entertaining and quite engaging, I admit, it hooked me.

In the second half of the movie, all the mystery's pieces, instead of falling into place, they fall apart and the end is a bad joke. All topped by the abysmal performance of this Monele girl, which gets WAY too much screen time, even more than the charismatic Blanc itself.

All in all, a waste of time, 1 out of 10 stars because it was advertised as a Knives Out type of Mystery and the mystery that still remains is: WHY?

Failed experiment
25 December 2022
I love when big budget movies take some risks and try to be different, but the minds behind this failed experiment, mostly took bad decisions, that completely ruined my viewing experience.

No.1: terrible casting choices on the two main characters: Bat and Riddler. Actually, Pattison could have been better as the Riddler... Dano's overacting is very annoying, especially towards the end (he tries to replicate his character from "There will be Blood", but fails miserably) .

No.2: Soundtrack: "the composer" literally reworks the Imperial March (Darth Vader's theme) as Batman's theme and Ave Maria as Riddler's theme. I was extremely distracted and infuriated, by this rippoff, this lack of creative inspiration, as both themes are overused throughout the movie.

No.3: Fight scenes: I get it, it is more a detective movie, but, it is still a Batman movie, come one guys, really, I've seen way better fights and action in tv series...

The length of the film, the big name actors and the budget are poorly managed.

5 out of 10 starts, because of the hard work of the other people involved, but I hope this experiment is done and the project will be passed to more competent directors, composers, editors, fight choreographers.

IMAX 3D compulsory watch
19 December 2022
Had to travel 3 hrs from my City to the Capital to see this in IMAX 3D.

Totally worth the efort, it was the most spectacular movie I've seen in Cinema since Dune, and Dune actually looks like a low budget film made for TV, compared to this beast.

Cameron is indeed the master of seaquels!

Avatar 2 is better than the first installement in almost every aspect.

This movie didn't hold back on anything, it didn't shy away even from a bit of on screen violence, which was not a gratuitous one.

A must see in Cinema, not only for the fantastic imagery, but also for the sound editting and The Soundtrack.

I had a blast seeing it and the competion for edditing, sound design, special effects for the next Oscars will be unfair for the others.

I would preorder tikets for the next Avatar movie!

Intended to be a Drama,/history/horror series...
22 November 2022
Don't let the trailer or those category tags fool You... They couldn't say it's a S. F. show because maybe they were afraid of spoiling some of the plot...? It's beyond my comprehension...

PROS: Let's say... production value (pretty pictures and costumes), and soundtrack (most of it, with some annoying sections though).

CONS: Monstrous plot holes and overall convoluted screenwriting that annoys the audience instead of drawing it in... Too many characters, too little development for me to care about them. Most of the characters have unoriginal back stories, some lack it completely.

Very poor choices in story telling, resulting in gradual elimination of any kind of tension, suspense, thrills.

VERDICT: I was cheated. I wasted my time.

Just.. Wow..
20 May 2022
I wanted to put a more creative title to my little review, but no... I might spoil something... so i'll just say this to the people that still haven't watch this film yet: free up your evening, mute your mobile phone and hop on board of this exceptional ride.

"Hat's off" to the entire team behind this film, the director, actors, composer, cameraman...

10 out of 10 stars, pure cinema.

If Sopranos show would have been a video game...
22 February 2022
If Sopranos show would have been a video game... then "The many..." would be a Free downloadable content that you play for 2 hours and you instantly forget about it afterwards.

Nothing special, just...content.

Also, I have to say it, why oh why is it so hard to use real fire/flames and we need to put up with bad CGI fire??? Is that so much to wask nowadays??

It's NOT the Raid 3 !
19 February 2022
''The Night Comes for Us" replicates very well the Poster design of "Berandal" (The Raid 2) and has Berandal's two main actors, thus advertising itself like it's The Raid 3 fans were waiting for... Unfortunately for Us, the viewers, it's nothing but a bloated, poorly choreographed and meaningless carnage, which doesn't even manages to shock, but only to exhaust the audience.

Krasinski is evolving as a director
12 January 2022
First of all, I have to say Part 1 was OK, it had it's moments, but it was overrated. Krasinski had a great idea, but could not make the best out of it.

Before it's release, I thought Part 2 was just going to be a cashgrab attempt, so I decided not watch it in theaters... I saw it on HBO today and I deeply regret skipping it on the Big Screen.

Even though the monsters were already revealed and The Guy himself was not going to have much screen time, Part 2 had the advantage the characters were already built up in the first part, meaning more film reel for tight, suspenseful situations.

And let me tell you, this time Mr. Krasinski seemed more inspired and more confident in it's direction. The characters were put in very tight spots literally and figurately and the suspense reached extreme levels, surpassing with flying colors all my expectations. Action was crafted very well and was impactful. The emotional scenes were subtle and not made to squeeze tear-jerking reactions from viewers, they were sprinkled here and there throughout and all had meaning and purpose.

The new protagonist was excellent, his actions were spot on! The soundtrack hit all the right notes and made me aware of it's presence.

10 out of 10 stars, I could not ask for a better thriller, one of the best films of 2021 in my book! Seeing Mr. Krasinski evolving as a director, I'm eager to watch his next project, which I hope will be in the action/thriller genre.

Unconventional horror
7 January 2022
I risked a lot seeing this film without reading reviews or watching trailers and I was handsomely rewarded!

If I would have seen the ratings, I certainly would not give it a chance... I had the feeling it is going to be mostly a family drama, thus I did not expect jump scares and gratuitous violence. And my gut was right.

After seeing the film, I checked info about the director and I was shocked it was his first actual film. He did a very competent job!

It is a low budget, direct to TV drama, but you can't tell.

The Cinematography is gorgeous. The director even makes effective use of HDR in some scenes, which look amazing on an OLED Tv.

The actors did a great job, heck, even the kid is far from being obnoxious as one could expect, given the atrocious performances of many children in so many movies, even in the big summer blockbusters.

The movie is well structured and follows the basic rule of having you care for the characters. The director seemed in control of what he wanted the film to be. Unfortunately, the film is advertised as a horror genre and viewers might get into it expecting thrills and shocks or an edge of your sea experience.

If you want to see a good family drama, competently directed, with elements of horror/paranoia/dread atmosphere, give this film a chance and you won't be disappointed.

I rate it a very solid 8 out of 10 stars, good job Netflix, please do it more often!

Another failed game to movie adaptation...
5 December 2021
They had so much to work with, lore, moves, costumes, characters, fatalities, locations and this is the best that these people could come up with ???

I was interested in just a couple of things: obviously the fight choreography, which is very uneven, some fights are very well executed and some are plain awful. Then, the characters introductions/presentation/costumes, which is decent, but could have been much better, again, taking in consideration how much stuff they had to take inspiration off... The special effects were OK, I guess since it's 2021, this should not be a merit or anything, if your special effects look OK. But when it came to a full CG character, the result was as I expected, poor...

Anyway, I am forced to repeat this, they've got probably the most spectacular fighting game franchise to pick and choose all the best ingredients, but the choices were mostly underwhelming.

I don't even know how to rate this mess... I guess, you should deserve 1 point out of 10 at your exam if the teacher is letting you open all the necessary books and you still don't know what the hell you're suppose to copy to pass your exam...

I was entertained!
22 November 2021
I've seen far worst movies in cinema, this one was a very pleasant surprise! For a direct to TV film, hat's off to all involved, bravo!

Very solid thriller, action packed, it used every available minute of it's runtime very efficiently in reaching it's purpose: to entertain the viewer.

Too bad it wasn't released in cinemas, would have been an even better viewing experience!

8 out of 10 stars! I got the director and the lead actress on my watchradar, hope to see more good work from them soon!

Hidden gem
10 November 2021
First of all, I can't believe I am the first reviewer on Imdb for this outstanding film... I feel compelled to advertise it, as I am a romanian and I have to admit, this film made me proud.

Nevertheless, I will be as objective as I can.

"Unidentified" is a slow burn drama, very well acted, sharply written, with excellent camera work and great use of classical music, basically it has all the necessary ingredients of a solid film (yes, it deserves to be adressed as film, not as movie).

It is one of 2021's hidden gems and you don't have to be a romanian to recognize this fact.

9 out of 10 stars. I gave it such a high score also because It feels so amazing to have such a pleasant cinematic surprise every once in a while and I am honoured to write it's first review here.

When talented directors are allowed to do their job...
4 November 2021
When talented directors are allowed to do their job, memorable, epic, beautiful cinema happens!

Also, budget is very well spent, if people with great vision are working unimpeded and outside of Studio's bad influence!

Did You know following "films" had much higher budgets then Villeneuve's Dune: Green Lantern, Wonder Woman 1984, Battleship, John Carter and shockingly many more absolutely terrible movies.

This is really a film worth supporting and which is worth the admission price tenfold.

I hope to see many more future Villeneuve - Zimmer collaborations!

9 out of 10 stars :took out one star due to PG-13 rating, thus the toned down on-screen violence/disturbing scenes, just personal preference, I would have liked the film to be R-rated. That's probably the only compromise that the Director made in favor of the Studio.

Mediocre
4 November 2021
I guess it all comes down to the level of expectations, but still....

I'm shocked E. Wright made such an unoriginal film! You can see the twists from miles away and it's not even creepy or scary.

5 out of 10 stars for great soundtrack and decent performances, otherwise, not worth the admission price. I am deeply disappointed.

The Last Duel (2021)

Boring
22 October 2021
I went and saw it without watching trailers or even reading any review or synopsis. I just hoped for a solid film set in medieval times, I knew it won't be the 2021 Gladiator (which BTW part 2 is somehow considered , what ??? No, please Hollywood, don't).

So even without high expectations, I was deeply disappointed: -the movie is long and it feels long, -the acting is mediocre, -the soundtrack is bland, -except for the duel itself, the action scenes are just fillers, nothing groundbreaking or remotely thrilling; -it looks pretty, but not 100 million $ pretty -for a medieval blockbuster level project, I'm absolutely sure they could have chosen a different story/subject matter.

4 out of 10 stars for the costumes and duel

My advice, wait for it on streaming services and save your money.

Mad Max (1979)
10/10
Underrated action classic
21 October 2021
I just re-watched '"Mad Max", as it came out on Netflix and let me tell You, it aged really well!

It managed to thrill and entertain me throughout! I'm saying this about a 1979 low budget Australian action film, my friends, that's special!

Surely the stunts and crashes are still some of the best ever filmed, but "Mad Max" mesmerized me also with it's weird/original/memorable elements: the "colorful" characters, the cool camera work, the catchy phrases and names, the perfectly adequate soundtrack).

What more can you ask from an action film ?

For me, "Mad Max" is a 10 out of 10 star film because it was ahead of it's time and managed to impress me again on my 3rd viewing in a span of 20 years.

Do this film justice and see it on your biggest available screen and also use headphones or any kind of loud speakers, you will not be disappointed even if it's not Your first viewing.

Along with films like Alien 1,2, Predator (the original one), Terminator 1 and 2 etc etc etc, I'd pay to watch it in theater.

And if somehow You've never seen "Mad Max" before, then by the end, You would have enriched your Cinematic experience!

This should be in the Hall of Fame of Action Films
28 February 2021
I am reviewing this film by adressing the following message to it's Writer and Director:

Thank You, Mr. Ilya Naishuller and your entire team, for giving us this unforgetable cinematic experience! I will be patient. I know that You will make Us happy again in the next years.. Either with a part Two or by expanding the Henry's Universe. When i say "Us" , I am reffering to all of Us who CAN actually recognize a good ACTION film...

I really hope a "Raid 2" type of miracle will happen in the near future, where You will get a bigger budget and blow our minds AGAIN!

I don't want to see other copycats doing this kind of action films because they will most certainlly fail and fail big time, and the Studios will back off even more... So, I will be patient.

3 stars for decent acting and for an intriguing first 30 minutes or so, but otherwise a total waste of time, couldn't care less about any of the characters, even the ending was predictable.

I need to stay away from Cronenberg Jr. 's stuff.

Another slap on costumers' faces
17 January 2021
Rewatch Universal Soldier, you'll be more entertained. Don't waste your time with this crap, just because it's new. The CGI in this movie looks like they made it with some free google play app. These amateurs who made this abomination even put some lame shaky cam effect on the scenes when shots are fired. Are you kidding me??

Being watchable doesn't mean it's close to a 7 out of 10 rating....
11 January 2021
First of all, don't expect a "hidden gem" type of movie, like i did, when i saw 6.8 score for a slasher movie. The bar for this kind of productions is set very low, so I thought this one is going to be special. Well, it's just watchable, nothing truly original or memorable or even shocking.

Recreating a masterpiece is impossible and pointless to even try
17 December 2020
The director of Deadpool, the writer (story) of The Dark Knight and the man himself, Mr.James Cameron as producer and THIS was the result... Of course, a huge dissapointment...If even these people failed so miserably, then, Hollywood, please understand and stop this mess, let them create their own projects... Remake some movies with failed potential, let the perfect ones alone...
