The Deer Hunter (1978)
Dark and depressing
Nobody in this film had a good ending. Very dark and depressing with no hope. I can see that they had to show the bleak reality of Vietnam. But it's doubled with the depressing reality of a deadend rust belt 1970's steel mill town in Pennsylvania. Probably the best acting Christopher Walken has ever done. One of the best best by Robert Deniro. If I was Deniro's character I would go back to the mountains and never leave. In the end no future except go back to work at the steel mill and drink Pabst blue ribbon for the rest of your life. Interesting how Michael could get himself and the dead body of Nick out of Nam before the commies took over.
On a Wing and a Prayer (2023)
Good story, slightly technically inaccurate
As far as a story of faith, as with most Roma Downey creations it is good quality. The technical aspects and reactions of the ATC are not realistic or factual. But the movie's overall story is not about flying airplanes anyway. I think the overall low rating this movie has gotten stems from the usual predjudice and misunderstanding of the Christian faith. Really compared to alot of faith based movies this was a pretty good one. It is not like Kirk Cameron or other cheesy productions. If you don't like this type entertainment don't watch it. But for those with an open mind, some simple lessons about life can be learned.
Operation Seawolf (2022)
What a joke
Right from the start, the WW1 submarine scene is so inaccurate and stupid. Why would the sub gets so close to the ship it's going to torpedo. Then they don't even attempt evasive manuvers or damage control. Abandon ship? Whats that, in a WW1 sub thats sinking. V2 rockets on a sub was a idea, but it was too late by then and still 15 years away. Dolph Lundgren is a pathetic alcoholic that can't stop drinking and is killing himself. Everybody is ignoring this. I hate historically inaccurate movies. The least they can do is make this fictional movie plausible. A black Captain of a ship in WW2? Yes, today we have those, Thank God, but not in WW2.
