What Happens Later (2023)
Not enough comedy
This movie is advertised as a rom-com-it's not! Unfortunately, in What Happens Later, there was constant, tiresome dialogue, comprised of mostly sad revelations, sarcasm and arguing, and not much comedy.
Besides some comic relief, I think viewers were hoping for the answer to the question that the title suggests-What Happens Later? But that's not what we were given.
I felt like the writers weren't really sure where they were taking the characters or the plot. Too bad! The movie had a lot of potential, appealing characters, talented actors, and good acting. It was engaging at times, but overall, for me at least, it didn't deliver.
Western Stars (2019)
Previously not a fan, but now I get it!
Previously not a fan, but now I get it!
This was a very engaging documentary/concert. I had not realized Bruce was such a philosopher and poet. His narration was wonderful and really set up his songs to make them more meaningful. Be sure to stay through all the credits to the supplemental footage at the end.
Second Act (2018)
Enjoyable and humorous!
Mostly a chick flick, akin to a Hallmark movie, this was a fun diversion. When the majority of available films are horror, animation, or super hero genres, this was a change of pace.
The theme was female empowerment and overcoming class restrictions, but it had a lot of funny lines that had the audience laughing. Definitely worth the time and money.
Holmes & Watson (2018)
Good actors, subpar script
Really wanted to like this movie, but it was really not funny at all. We had about 60 people in the theater, and it was silent for 95% of the movie.
The acting, staging, costumes were all good. But the humor was non-existent. Several minutes of puking is not funny. The story was tedious, with no surprises. Very disappointing.
Food Matters (2008)
A Must-See!
If you care about your health, or if you are suffering from disease, this is a must-see movie.
This movie explains the premise that the modern diet is causing us to starve ourselves of the nutrition our bodies need to function and prevent disease. It emphasizes that modern medicine has nothing to do with preventative measures and everything to do with selling us treatments and medications.
I found the movie inspiring and hope to follow it's plan to eat a raw, organic, vegan diet and focus on getting the sleep and exercise I need to maintain health.
Hidden Figures (2016)
Best movie I've seen in a long time!
Based upon a true story about the people behind the scenes at NASA in the early 1960's, it has something for the whole family--fantastic writing, award-winning performances, historically accurate events, settings and fashion.
The movie is kid-friendly, and presents a restrained introduction to discrimination issues of the day. As a former teacher, I could see this movie being used in a math, science or social studies curriculum.
Coming out of the crowded theater, everyone was upbeat and raving about the movie.
This is a must-see--by far, the best movie I've seen in a long time!
Manchester by the Sea (2016)
Engaging, but not entertaining
I was very disappointed in this movie. While I found it sometimes engaging and well-acted, the story was depressing and simply a slice of real life and not entertainment. I didn't see any real growth in the characters or any hope for the future. It almost felt like a documentary or reality show.
The title made me expect that the movie had more to do with life in a quaint, sunny coastal town. While there were a couple of scenes in a boat, it didn't look like a place I would want to spend time.
I found the music to be annoying and distracting. There were a few instances where I couldn't hear the dialogue because the music was too loud.
I wouldn't recommend this movie to anyone.
