Just Buried (2007)
10/10
True Alfred Hitchcockian dark comedy thriller.
26 July 2008
Jay Baruchel plays a nerd and he plays it well. He has nosebleeds if he's stressed out so of course when he inherits a funeral home, he gets many nose bleeds. The movie was filmed in Windsor and Halifax, Nova Scotia. The camera shots are wonderful. But wait: the plot (or plots?) is convincing and I must warn those who are easily grossed out not to watch this movie. I hooted and cringed all in a matter of minutes. You'll see what I mean when you see certain scenes. I haven't seen a movie that is as original as when I'd last seen of one Alfred Hitchcock movies. So its true: this is a "very" dark comedy. If it was released by Paramount, talk show hosts would be talking about it. But once again, I warn you that certain scenes are beyond gross. I rate "Just Buried" highly. Spend the ten bucks and go see it for yourself, while it's still in Canadian theaters.

Bleak House (2005)
10/10
Best film I've ever seen
17 January 2007
This mini series is so exquisitely produced and filmed, that it would be impossible to name just one of the actors or actresses that makes Bleak House nothing less than brilliant. I watched the whole series in two days and it is indeed the best film I've ever watched in my life.

The film scenes, the clothes, the acting: all flawless. Sometimes when I was watching it, I would rewind the DVD to play a scene over several times. And the music: it's eerie and catchy and exact. I also liked the cliff hanger after each segment.

Some times I cried, some times I felt chills crawling up my back, and sometimes I laughed. No movie has ever touched my heart such as this one. I also like how it only took about ten minutes to get into it.

So if you have about seven or eight hours, I urge you to rent, borrow, or buy this exceptional movie. I think Charles Dickens himself would have been pleased with this film. Bravo to all concerned in making this classic come alive in my living room.

The Wild Dogs (2002)
10/10
Absolutely unforgettable. Thom Fitzgerald is exceptional.
16 August 2005
This movie is filmed in Romania. The brilliant director/writer, Thom Fitzgerald, takes you on a journey that is shocking, raw, and honest. Emotions are beautiful and raw. I was thinking throughout the movie how little control we really do have over our own lives.

The characters sort of creates themselves. Sometimes I was so angry that I felt like throwing up but then suddenly I would see something that was extremely tender and funny. Fitzgerald controls the viewer as though he has a whip: he knows how to use it, but he also knows when to lie it down.

The camera shoots are exceptional as well. Watch the movie the second time and take in all the background, the shading, the movements, the actors.

I've never seen a movie like The Wild Dogs. I really can't remember seeing a movie that has made me so angry at some characters but then so happy with other characters. I don't know how Fitzgerald did it, but he has created a masterpiece. Watch the movie for what it is: not what you think it should be because I think most people would find the subject matter totally haunting. This movie is not for the faint of heart.

I rate this movie a 10 out of 10.
