Padmaavat, a historical fiction with a controversial plotline faced constant backlash at the time of its release, but sadly it's not what it was accused of, rather a beautiful Bhansali film about the story of Padmaavati, Queen of Mewar, and her strength of character in the battle of Chitoor. Ranveer Singh plays Alaudin Khilji, a Delhi sultanate obsessed with Padmaavati, in an authentic manner that the character impacts the audience greatly. Musical numbers played by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the director himself, exhibit grandeur, and captures our heart. The departments of costumes, set-works, and make-up deserve special appreciations, but not the department of CGI, which was straight out of an Indian cartoon.
The final battle between Alaudin Khilji and the King of Mewar (whose name is not worth remembering) is surprisingly hilarious, looks like a battle between two old people. The 'pride' standpoint of the Rajput king becomes repetitive and foolish after a point, and the climax is controversial. Padmaavat is a classic that will be remembered for a long time on account of Sanjay Leela Bhansali, but an average watcher might doze off once or twice during watching the film.
