Lost Girls and Love Hotels (2020)
General plot had potential - didn't deliver
Unfortunately, the current rating on IMDB is pretty spot on. When I read about the movie and watched the trailer, I was hoping it would delve more into the darker side of things with the Yakuza influence, more plot based around the 'Lost girl' etc - but ultimately what we got is just a girl sleeping with a few guys in love hotels because of some 'issues' which never really get explored. It honestly felt like whatever 'plot' there was, was just an afterthought and the movie was more of an excuse to show off love hotels and an attractive actress.
Overall I was fairly disappointed - very shallow, next to no plot, and could have been a lot better with the concept it was based around.
Blade Runner 2049 (2017)
Conflicted - phenomenal cinematography, poor pacing
This movie has the best cinematography I have ever seen, I can't stress enough just how good that aspect of it is. The acting is pretty good for the most part too, however the pacing and large periods of slow moving (or not moving at all and serving no real purpose) plot really let it down here. I found the original to be the better movie overall, but this is still worth a watch.
Fainaru fantajî sebun adobento chirudoren (2005)
Amazing movie - hard to fault
I have always been a massive fan of the final fantasy series, and VII was one of my favourites - so this was a must see. It did not disappoint. Amazing CGI animation, surprisingly good voice acting, unreal fight scenes, and a lot of clever references to the game which anyone who has played it will adore. That being said, I think even people who haven't played the game could enjoy this - there may be a couple of small details that go over their heads without the prior knowledge, but generally speaking most things are explained quite well and in an entertaining fashion. The fight scenes and intricate storytelling alone make this film a must watch.
Flashforward (2009)
Excellent TV show, heavily underrated
I personally, was disappointed that there was not a second (or even third) season to this excellent series. I have always loved texts, be it books, movies, TV series with intriguing and mind bending concepts.. this certainly fits the bill. The entire world blacking out for two minutes and seventeen seconds, seeing their respective futures, and taking actions to ensure / change their future is an intriguing topic, and one that I thought was executed quite well.
The acting was done quite well, but this was all about the concept and the execution. Such a clever idea deserved a sequel, as i felt there were many unanswered questions which didn't do it justice. It made you question aspects of your own life, and delve into decisions / indecisions you have made in the past. I feel any text that can make me examine myself in that light deserves to be commended. If you are someone that is after something light-hearted, something you can sit back and enjoy without paying a great deal of attention, then this isn't for you. If, like me, you enjoy something a little more mentally stimulating, something that makes you think, and something that intrigues you overall, then this is an excellent place to start.
