Escaping Twin Flames (2023)
Embarrassingly relatable
This group exploits people when they are at their worst. I am an atheist and I still bought into this when I was dumped by the man I love 5 years ago. The pain was excruciating. I have paid over 500 pounds in courses to help get your ex back/ find your soulmate and the worst one, the MTE Narp freedom from narcissistic abuse program. It is total snake oil. The procedures talked about on the show where trauma is revisited and 'healed' are the same as the Narp program. It cost me over £300. There is an initial cooling off period where you are encouraged and loved on by the moderators in the forum. I was struggling and the 'shifts' weren't working. I filled many A4 notebooks going back over trauma, doing the exercise and trying to release my trauma because it was ME who was attracting heartbreak. As above so below. Just like the mirror work in this cult of a group.
I was told to keep doing the technique. The reason I was in pain was me. The reason my life was a mess was because I hadn't removed my blocks. I did not feel a single bit better after doing hours of 'shifts' daily for over a year.
As soon as I was no longer eligible for a refund after 30 days I was chastised in the forums. Told I was breaking rules. My comments warning others were deleted.
Please don't fall for this. Please do your research. Please see Trust pilot reviews on Narp and other abusive online groups. As someone who has been through a lot of trauma and has had many forms of counselling the best advice I can give for healing is be kind to yourself. And only allow people in your life who are kind to you.
The Romantics (2010)
Y so negative?
Don't understand the negative reviews. Hate leaving reviews that have a minimum word count but want to make effort to leave my own to offset what I feel is unfair treatment on the imdeebs.
I was put off watching this film because of the low rating and obvious theme of infidelity. But was feeling disillusioned with love and needed something to watch since I'm fortunate enough to work from home so stuck it on.
The characters weren't particularly likeable but I did find myself rooting for Laura and Tom. I've made so many mistakes in life myself that the worries of the characters rang true. I have kept my mouth shut when I loved someone only to watch them marry someone else. Now I wouldn't touch that person with a barge pole but it hurt at the time while wearing my rose coloured glasses.
I enjoyed the poetic references and thought the soundtrack was beautiful, had shazam out a few times. Some poignant moments, set in a wistful shoreline location with aesthetically pleasing mise en scene. Definitely deserves more than a 5/10 and I felt good at the end. Even though Laura's words about how time only makes hurt more painful when you're apart from the one you love were hard to listen to as someone prone to pining for an unworthy man.
Table 19 (2017)
Far too low rating
Don't be influenced by this stupidly low overall rating. Really loved this movie, it was warm and had a great ending. It exposed lots about our silly perceptions of what makes someone successful, expectations of others in relationships and life, how you can judge someone without knowing the full story and it turns out their heart was in the right place. Maybe I'm biased because I'm sat at the table 19 of life. But it gave me hope that things can change for the better for the lonely, ostracised, people who've made mistakes. I really enjoy Lisa Kudrow in a movie too, not a hint of the character Phoebe who is hard to get away from. Anna Kendrick brill as always. Her storyline was touching.
Dimensions (2011)
Good watch with Aaron from Killing Eve as a likeable character
Another example of me being happy I ignored a rather low overall IMDB score and trusted in the more generous reviews. Beautifully shot movie with beautiful music. Natural performances all round. I am interested in movies to do with time/ universe travel - Back to the Future, Time Traveller's Wife (book not movie though) Somewhere in Time with Jane Seymour and Christopher Reeve, Groundhog Day, Everything Everywhere All at Once. I try not to live in the past anymore but my heart breaks for past times and lost love. But things happened as they did and they couldn't have happened any other way. Maybe there are many universes. Maybe we can come into alignment with the one we most desire. Maybe there's some truth in Neville Goddard's imaginal and law of assumption theories. Affirming that it is already done. I have the life and the love of the life I want etc. Maybe it's for the best that such a machine doesn't exist.
Colors of Love (2021)
Cute, literary, historical
If you like this type of hallmarkesque movie you won't be disappointed. Wholesome, family orientated with touching moments of good home truths that it's good to be reminded of. Makes me want to visit the beautiful Montana countryside and take in the easy going people centred way of life. Enjoyed the historic and literary references. A decent way to spend a little time and doesn't try to be anything it's not. The acting is totally fine in my humble opinion, other reviews seem too harsh. I love many different types of movies and wasn't expecting high octane adventure scenes or radical original plot. It was enjoyable to those of us who like romances.
Anna (2019)
Spy fans will be happy
Pleasantly surprised, stylish film and Sasha is lovely to watch. Helen Mirren great too. If you enjoy spy films and twisty plot lines you'll like this. I would like to see Sasha Luss in more movies. She is talented and her fight scenes were gracefully executed with dancelike qualities. Sadly models seem to have a tough time proving themselves as actresses sometimes. Happened with Andie MacDowell who managed to turn it around, and Paulina Porizkova who was criminally underused as an actress. Her performance in the movie 'Thursday' is one of my favs and it made me wish she had starred in more feature films.
I'm off to google Anna's wardrobe, some of the outfits were exquisite xox.
Survivor (2015)
Negative reviews far too harsh, watch if you like underdog pics
Don't understand the reviews on here. I put off watching this one for ages because of them. I'm a huge fan of the wrongly accused/ spy/ revenge/ vigilante genre so I was happy to watch. Milla is a dream of an actress and the rest of the cast are good too. What's not to like? It was stylish, well acted with some good action scenes. A bit of romance would have made it even better for me but it was kind of hinted at with her coworker. Pierce Brosnan made a good villain. An enjoyable movie to sit and watch. Not every movie of this ilk is going to break the mould like the Bourne franchise or The Fugitive (two of my favs). But this is a wrongly accused exemplary government agent narrative, that works for a reason. It was enjoyable IMHO.
Page Eight (2011)
Why..
Did he carry around 60 grand in a translucent plastic bag? Wtf. He has a regular hold all in one hand and a plastic bag in the other at the end. Just stick the money in the bag so you don't get MUGGED? Star deducted on the basis of this point.
Love, Guaranteed (2020)
Love finding movies like this
The low rating is totally undeserved! If you like romantic movies then this one is funny, well written and full of heart. The actors are great, great delivery of funny little quips that could be lost if not done with professionalism. No characters annoyed me or seemed unnecessary, Rachel, Damon, Heather and Kandyse are all gorgeous and the film moved me. Made me hope I find love. Feel good message.
