Olympus Has Fallen (2013)
One man show saves America!
A mindless gun blazing kickaholic mambo Jambo. The director or the script writers should have some respect to the president and the American security apparatus. It is just utterly ridiculous how easily the trigger happy Korean Bozos can attack and take over the white house. This movie is an utter disgrace to the Secret Service and the military of the United states of America. It doesn't have an ounce of any realism. Yeah, if this movie was released in the 80's with the likes of Rambo, perhaps people would have enjoyed it. Its just too typical American Hero bullshit for today's world. Even Morgan Freeman couldn't make this movie any less stupid. Don't waste your money on it, wait till it shows on HBO on a very very boring night.
Europa Report (2013)
A unique, realistic and a gripping Sci Fi movie
As a science/space enthusiast, I found this movie to be really interesting and enjoyed it. I think all the viewers who like these types of plots would enjoy it, but the directorial approach may be annoying to some viewers. The shaky statics videos and limited angels of camera view might not be too popular. There wasn't any character development or focus on the characters, it was pretty straight forward. The documentary style used was reasonable. The best thing about this movie was it was a low budget indie movie which did a wonderful job. A lot could have been better. Humans traveling to space and land on Europa, a moon in Jupiter, that itself is a reason to watch it, Do not expect a typical Hollywood style movie. However this movie takes a very realistic approach to present the complex space mission depicting the psychological and the physical strains on the astronauts.
Searching for Sugar Man (2012)
One of those rare amazing stories which just sticks to your heart
Searching for Sugar Man is an amazing story, it is so intriguing and beautifully told. Everybody shown in the documentary where just full of life. Sixto Rodriguez turns out to be such a mysterious and a cool dude. The viewer immediately gets to like him.One of my favorite guy was Rick Emmerson, even though he was on just for a minute or so, that guy was fun and he stood out. The fairy tale quality of the story and the clever artistic way the director has presented the documentary has made it such a delightful and wonderful piece of work. There were so many instances that I felt I had a grin on me while watching the it.
It is so refreshing to know that truly beautiful things can happen in this world. Music has so much power to reach out and bond people together. Hats off to the fans who worked so hard and finally made all this possible. And best of luck to Rodriguez, my sincerest well wishes to you and your family.
Skyfall (2012)
Great Action but less Classic Bond
Skyfall is definitely an action packed movie. The stunts were amazing and the action shots were fast and thrilling. All actors did a wonderful job. But unfortunately I did not really sense the classic "BOND" element which one would really expect in a Bond movie. It's more of a character focused movie, venturing into some childhood details of Bond and the relationship with M. It didn't really show any cool Gadgets, and disappointingly, scenarios with the Bond girls were't sexy enough. The Music and technical details were superb. Great Direction. But in a Bond movie, we are used to see some fantasy dreamy silly stuff....i missed that.
Overall the movie is a fantastic action movie, I enjoyed it. But it was very easy for me to forget that this was actually a James Bond 007 Movie I was watching.
Life of Pi (2012)
Enchanting Story with Beautiful Visuals
Ang Lee is a Master story teller. He has succeeded yet again to deliver us with an astounding piece of work. Beautiful story and incredible visual effects and scenery. The cast was wonderful. Life of Pi takes the viewer to a journey of magic and wonder. It also depicts the vivid and colorful world of India especially during the colonial period. I would have wished the script had been a bit better, and honestly speaking there were few moments it felt a bit too dragging...perhaps overly emphasized on emotional acting. This movie could have been totally perfect with a few improvements. However it still is a sensational movie and Ang Lee deserves all the credit and salute!!!
