The Age of Adaline (2015)
I didn't intend to watch this, but I'm so glad I did
*minor spoiler regarding the introduction of the movie*
I wouldn't consider myself to be the target audience for this "epic love drama", and had heard about it but never had any intentions of viewing it. My sister watched it, and loved it. Of course she would, she loves these kinds of films and books. She told mum about it and then me and dad, I thought it wouldn't hurt to step away from Game of Thrones for one night to sit in with the family and watch this romance movie.
From the start, it had a good intro. The narrator had the perfect voice. The cinematography and score was excellent, but I wasn't quite gripped yet. Her apparent death at the start and rebirth into life with plausible scientific explanation (which is quite rare in movies nowadays) allowed me to believe this story and delve into it.
It takes a while to get kick-started from then on, but once it gets good, it gets real good. The story, the characters, the direction, the dialogue and the connection between Blake Lively and Michiel Huisman (who I instantly recognised from Game of Thrones) is amazing, and feels real. The scene with her dog's euthanasia I can relate and feel sorry for her.
As the love evolves and the story unfolds, even more complicated than before, I felt more and more absorbed and willing to see the end of the movie. Ultimately, I'm happy I watched this even though it wasn't on my movie bucket list. A surprising entry into my liked movie list. I would recommend this film to my friends and other family members, even if romance isn't their thing. Because it sure ain't mine, and here I am giving this movie a 9/10.
Insidious: Chapter 2 (2013)
Better than the first - developed story, developed scares!
I just came back from the late night launch and my throat is killing me from screaming. I went into the film 50/50 because I loved the 1st one and read that this one had a better story but lacked the scares. Well, I agree that the story is more developed and a lot better, along with explaining some events from the 1st film. The scares were jacked up too IMO. Tucker and Specs returned as the comic relief of the film and did a good job in doing so, albeit there were 1-2 moments that didn't involve them that were unintentionally funny, but that didn't spoil the film.
I am really pleased with the acting and creepiness of the storyline, which developed the story and characters and just made it better than the first, along with leaving an opening for a 3rd film.
Creepier, jumpier, scarier, better. 4/5
The Inbetweeners Movie (2011)
Should not of been made
I am being extremely generous in giving this movie one star out of ten. It was like an overly-extended terrible episode. Don't get me wrong, I love the series, and watched it religiously, but after seeing this movie and then watching re-runs to better my faith in the franchise itself, my love of it went out the window.
I can't even describe how horrible this 'movie' is. 1 hour and 37 minutes of pure boredom; dry humor with a lack of laughs, no real storyline, and basically its just Jay saying d*ck, tw*t, p*ssy, w****r, m*ff and other related sex slang.
Highlight of the movie: Pussy Patrol shirts. And that gag wasn't even THAT funny. Low point: The entire movie
Final Destination 5 (2011)
Brilliant! A must see!
Absolutely loved every single minute of it. So many unexpected and gory moments involved, like the boat impalement and Peter and Sam's death in the premonition was pretty gory too. The acupuncture death scene was really gory too, and the gym scene was pretty squeamish. The best was the laser eye surgery death! Well, kinda because it was realistic in the fact that could actually happen but the fact that she moved towards the window rather than towards the door for safety annoyed me a bit. The two twists were really good and I loved how dark the movie got when Peter snapped and tried to kill Molly, thinking she wasn't worthy enough of her life. I was shocked when Peter shot the inspector dude, having his life and still trying to kill Molly, added a darker tone to it. Fantastic character development! Amazing ending! The fact that it was a prequel and happened before FD1 really blew my mind! It was the best in the series in my opinion. This is what 3D was made for! Just a tiny heads up, (not really a spoiler but;) make sure you remember the first film. All I'm saying. Great movie, 5 stars :)
