Rise remarks and observes pretty faithfully the path of the illegal rave scene and Carlton Leach.
this film isnt some over shot, brooding piece of film noir -this charts the literal rise of the "top boy" in the ICF,and how he progresssed into doing security for entrepreneurial rave organisers for the hugely popular scene at the time and acknowledges that the top boy became a real gangster. There is much violence in this film, throughout, but having read some of the lower scores for this film, i cant help but notice that the low reviewers definitely didn't grow up in a block of flats on a council estate on the jam roll.
Ther film is a rollercoaster showing the ups and downs, highlighting Carltons first experience of ecstasy (hilarious but oh so hust correct).
The chgaracter development is thick and brooding, Ricci Harnett nails Leach.
This is the first half and is pretty true to what really happened - door security muscling in on the rave scene and keeping hold of it when it went mainstream into the clubs.
The second part of the film introduces the Essex boys -Tucker,Tate and Rolfe and to be honest - the characters absolutely steal the last part of the movie -no spoiler alert, watch fairbrass nail what we assumed pat tate really should be played like -fairbrass is pate tate in this.
Some incredibly supportive roles through out.
A curious set of endings, you'll understand when you see - no spoilers.
If you arehnt working class -you probably wont get any of this film, but according to many, it really was like this -ok there is some fairy dust sprinkled for effect, but the end is sublime and aches like a dull thud to the back of your head.
The Austin Howard track "heaven knows" is a tour de force also and shows excellent musical editing.
A masterpiece that everyone should see.
Pizza anyone?
