The Good Place (2016)
I must be in the bad place
This is torture. I just watched 3 seasons of a very bland show that has an 8.2 IMDB rating. It's somehow flooded with 10/10 user reviews, indicating that this is a PERFECT example of a comedy series.
It's okay at best. This show feels like it's meant for Disney XD. Very childish humor, maybe a sensible chuckle every few episodes.
The Good Place is the frozen yogurt of comedies.
Carnivàle (2003)
Best show I've never heard of
Carnivàle is incredibly well done. The acting is fantastic, minus a couple of the minor carnie characters. They really nailed the look and mood of the great depression. The major storyline is a bit of a slow burn but the show always finds a way to keep you interested.
I don't want to add any spoilers, but the biggest issue I have with show is that it gets corny at times when portraying the "evil" character, especially in the second season towards the end.
Battlestar Galactica (2004)
Not worthy of an 8.7 rating
Have the people here ever watched television before? The plot is full of holes. The story is all over the place. Relationships feel forced. Characters make non-sensical decisions. The overuse of "frack" is cringy.
If the mini-series doesn't do it for you, stop. I kept watching into season 3 because of the 8.7 rating, and no it does not get any better.
Something feels off on the show that I can't seem to articulate. Everything about it is irritating. When major events happen they somehow managed to present it in a way where I feel nothing.
Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi (2017)
This should not be Disney material, please just stop
Sure, it's a brain-dead Disneyfied movie with paint-by-the numbers plot, zero originality, over the top cutesie wildlife, "Dog with a Blog" quality humor, and clichés galore. It's mildly entertaining with pretty CGI though.
Here is how Disney can fix it:
1) Let HBO take over Star Wars franchise and just reboot the entire series
2) Stop making movies
Thanks
Ozark (2017)
Just not very interesting
This show has got it all - sex, drugs, violence, murder - and yet it's still quite boring. The story revolves around characters making highly nonsensical decisions. As much as I like Jason Bateman, his performance felt wooden much of the time. A number of scenes (such as the "spanking" scene) seemed forced and very unnatural, almost cringey. I kept watching because of all the glowing reviews but it ended up taking 1 1/2 months for me to get through it all.
