Nil by Mouth (1997)
Like a fresh breeze from England's gutters
I liked this films' authentic look.
I have middle class friends who describe this film as "depressing".
To me it was uplifting. It was great to see all these working class characters, even the horrible one, portrayed with a feeling of dignity and sincereness.
Not your average plastic movie. Real life, real emotions. I liked it, because it at last portrayed the life of the modern underclass with realism. The characters take over the story in this film, so if you like that, take a look. Thank you, Gary Oldman.
Dom za vesanje (1988)
Life of Gypsies in Early 90's Yugoslavia. With a Feeling.
This film rewards it's viewer. The more you see the more you enjoy the film. Everything is revealed in little delicate bits to the viewer and you start to know the characters and feel for them in little bits...
This is a movie that makes you feel and forces you to think.
If you don't like real-to-life characters, seeing poverty, life on Earth, emotions, then this movie is not for you.
The Decline of Western Civilization (1981)
punk rock roots
The One and the Only!
The only really good description of the punk movement in the LA in the early 80's. Also, the definitive documentary about legendary bands like the Black Flag and the X. Mainstream Americans' repugnant views about this film are absolutely hilarious! How can music be SO diversive in a country of supposed liberty...even 20 years after...find out!
Office Space (1999)
We all weep alone
If you live in a country where you can be employed in an office cube...and you hear the feeble sobs of your fellow beings from the other side of the office space...you know what this film is about. This film is about emancipation against the stupid fax machine...all White Collars Unite!

Arvottomat (1982)
A very Finnish story of crime, romance and life
"Shall we go?" "Where to?" "Where ever." "What ever."
That's the best translation I can make for the Finnish dialog of the one of the great moments of the film. The whole movie is full of pastishes from young and enthusiastic Finnish film-makers (Aki & Mika Kaurismaki) for the likes of Alphaville etc...and the characters are also lovable...all in all, a film full of lovable characters and unforgettable dialogue...
