Executions (1995)
Shocking Reality - Worth Watching!
This documentary really hits hard with the reality of what is going in our world today. Broken down into chapters: Hanging, Stoning, Beheading, Chemical Gas, Lethal injection, Electrocution, Shooting etc etc It shows graphic detail of how people are put to death, not just for punishment but just because they were part of the wrong religion, race or political regime.
Scenes include that of a women being stripped of her clothing before being stoned by street gangs, mass genocide of the holocaust in Africa, many Jewish POWs who were sadly exterminated just because of their place in society and men shot to death for murder, plus much much more.
Some scenes of be-headings are quite interesting as much they are gruesome - due to the fact a scientist proved that the human brain could still function up to 30 seconds after the head was decapitated and finally starved of oxygen.
Ending the story is a man in Beirut named Mohammedine Salar who is accused of a car bombing and finally caught by villagers. They decide to send him to death, again this is by his own people (and not by Jury or Court). He is tied up, blind-folded portrayed in front of the camera and then literally shot to bits - one bullet actually seen 'close up' blowing half his face apart as he continues to struggle for life and fight to take his last breath. Do we feel sorry for him, or the people he killed with a car bomb?
The fact about this documentary is to decide whether execution is humane - you make up your own mind? Worth watching for an educational look at the brutal way of punishment and racial political hatred.
We're Fighting Back (1981)
Excellent Guardian Angel style movie!
Drama / Crime thriller
I saw this movie several years ago on British TV which I believe is called "We're Fighting Back", and if so it's well worth watching!
The movie is about a group of a crime fighters who go out to protect the public. They particularly patrol the subways trains (like new york), no uniforms as such but they all wear t-shirt bearing a logo/motif on the front of a 'clenched fist against a flat hand, also wearing beret style caps (just like Guardian Angels).
It starts off with a neighbour-hood constantly being the brunt of hardened thugs terrorising the public, mugging, attacking and pretty much making the area an unsafe and no-go area.
One of the residents who has had enough of the crime escalating in his street decides to start a crime fighting alliance - several guys who will be willing to support his battle of the New York streets, and becoming part of his Guardian patrol group.
The 'Guardians' are soon to deal with the day to day battle of crime on the streets, and they turn to the Subway trains next which are constantly becoming a muggers paradise after dark.
As they operate on the subway trains, each member of the 'guardians' would patrol their section of the train carriage, and when the train got to a station they would step out to check each member of their 'angels' were present at designated carriage - but if they were not, this meant there was trouble, so all the other angels would go to assist.
Lots of drama, defence & crime fighting against hardened thugs. Well worth watching if you can ever get the chance - just wish the production companies would release this on DVD!
Creepshow 3 (2006)
Disappointing
Sorry to have to write this, but when I heard Creepshow had a third instalment, I couldn't wait to get to the shops to purchase a third sequel of classic name if horror. But when I watched it, my thoughts just sank with disappointment! The movie completely detaches itself from the original, with no connection at all to the original two Creepshow films.
No comic book style intro, no decent acting, and a story-line that has no meaning that is so confusing it spoils the film completely. I'm sure Stephen King & George A.Romero would be appalled to be connected with this rubbish.
The movie starts with low budget effect, and continues to do so throughout the movie. I just hope that whoever made this junk will never be involved in making horror sequel movies again - they have literally spoilt a classic name in horror! If you loved the original two, then let them remain true classics As for the third - Don't bother!
Blood of the Vampire (1958)
Good Gothic horror, but doesn't contain the punch of Hammer Horror!
Well, fans of Gothic style 50s horror will love this classic movie. For me, I was expecting a little more 'vampire' in the story, like a gorgeous vampiress dressed in a gown with fangs galore to bite the neck of those she seduces - but sadly no.
The movie starts with the Count being staked through the heart and buried, before his servant 'Karl' (who plays a good Igor like character) takes his masters body to a mental asylum to revive him.
After a Doctor is wrongly accused in court of killing a patient through blood transfusing, he is sent to the asylum for his life-long punishment, only to become a servant to the Count, who wants to use his expertise in surgical practise on other inmates, mainly their blood.
This movie has the imagery of Hammer Horror, given by it's writer Jimmy Sangster, but sadly lacks the punch of a good dramatic Vampire story.
As classic Gothic horrors go, it's worth a look.
