Madeo (2009)
You have to watch the whole thing to understand....
At first, I was a little confused and thought that the character that plays, the son of the mother was just an idiot And I thought this is ridiculous and who would act like that and all these things were going through my head but as the movie presses on you realize that he is really a mentally and maturely stunted young man. They don't really explain that clearly but obviously he is a mental capacity that is much younger than his grown man self but he still participates in adult. I'll be at obnoxious, behavior. She's absolutely obsessed with saving her son and goes to extreme lengths to do so all the while you're thinking this kid is guilty as sin, but it doesn't become clear until towards the end of the movie where you're like oh he's really just intellectually challenged. However, once you realize that, you may start to feel empathy for the mother until you see how she sacrifices another innocent person to save her son and I was inclined to be disgusted but as a mother, would I have made the same choice? I don't know
I also don't know if some of the things we see in Korean films are a true depiction like their mentalities, ways of life, justice systems and culture- things that you think as an American are utterly ridiculous and "would never happen this way" - but I'm always reminding myself that these films are not American made. It's a good movie, a little slower than I'd have liked but still good.
Baby Reindeer (2024)
Great, sad, frustrating, disturbing, and even comedic at times
1st episode opens with "This is a true story," and the series starts off with what you think will be a run of the mill stalking story, but it goes so much deeper than that. In the first few episodes, you find yourself extremely frustrated with the main character, and some of the decisions he makes, but as the series moves on, it really sheds incredible insight, and truly explains his decisions and thoughts that earlier had you screaming at the TV at him, maybe like me you screamed at him and calling him, "an idiot!"
I watched the whole series in one day, and it definitely did not ever drag on, it deals with some Very disturbing content so if you are really sensitive to things that causes people major trauma, viewer beware. They don't Show anything graphic in nature like violence or anything of that sort, but the implications are and Richard Gadd's performance truly captured the raw emotion of the trauma that is a result of everything that he goes through. It really is a great story and now I'm going to do a little research to see how much of this "true story," is accurate.
Mea Culpa (2024)
Could have been a good movie but for awful acting and script!
***Please note: I usually only leave reviews if a movie is great or if it's complete garbage- this is definitely the latter!!*** This movie's
plot had really good potential, but the acting was god-awful and that's putting it mildly; the "seduction conversation" scenes and the sex scenes were just so stupid, I mean, she is drawn by the guy who comes on super fast and super strong, and then literally jumps on top of him and has sex with him 30 seconds after another woman gets off of him. It was so ridiculous and disgusting. She supposed to be this intelligent, strong attorney, but she never says anything to the husband and his family that treat her like she's an indentured slave??. If the writing of this would've been different and the acting would've been even slightly better, I might've enjoyed it. The story itself had a good concept, but it was the execution of the whole thing that just made it one of the worst movies I've ever seen. Tyler Perry seems to be really talented, I love his acting, and some of his movies are really good, but I don't even know what these people were thinking when they watched the finish version? Did the filmmakers movie watch the Final Cut and think, "wow we have a hit here!?"
Ang-ma-reul bo-at-da (2010)
GREAT KOREAN REVENGE THRILLER!
This movie was Great but very difficult to watch in a lot of the scenes because of the brutality and graphic violence. It is definitely raw and gritty, but suspenseful and entertaining! The acting is superb and the story is emotional and heartbreaking. Lee Byung-hun and Choi Min-sik give great performances! If you like, Korean thrillers, you don't wanna miss this one. It's in Korean with English subtitles, and the subtitles are pretty spot on. Like most Korean films, you have the small description and maybe even a trailer but the movie plays out in a way that you're not saying to yourself in every scene, "oh I saw that coming, " or "I knew it that was
gonna happen" I love the unpredictability of Korean films. They're not predictable like many thrillers so you never really know what's gonna happen but it's always great!

IGNORE THE BAD REVIEWS!
Reading some of the bad reviews of this movie makes me wonder if they watched the same film I did? This movie was extremely entertaining, very well acted, nothing overly dramatic or anything. The story itself kept me engaged, and I like the style of how they told the story, similar to the life of pi where there was a narrator, kind of bringing you along Through the timeline and the events and what not. Someone else said it was boring, and I don't understand that because I was front and center for every minute of this movie. It's definitely worth the 2+ hours. The only thing I didn't like was the fact that they speak half English and half Hindi and I couldn't get any subtitles or close captions for the English parts so it was a little difficult to hear or understand because of the accent but it doesn't make it difficult to follow along. Do yourself a favor and watch this before it leaves Netflix!
Hodejegerne (2011)
GREAT NORWEGIAN TWISTY THRILLER !!
This movie was cool from start to finish. Twists and turns throughout with almost no "expected" moments! This is the first film I've seen with Asker Hennie and he does not disappoint and well, have you ever seen Nikolaj Coster-Waldau in anything that you didn't enjoy? Great plot, great writing, great characters! Aside from all of that, This movie kept me on the edge of my seat for most of it's running time. Very few movies do that these days but this one really kept you biting your nails!
This is a great date night movie or want to sit at home on the weekend with popcorn, and just enjoy the action and the mystery!

Don't Believe the Bad Ratings - This is a good movie!
First of all, Adam Driver - need, I say more? It doesn't really matter what he's in, he's a phenomenal actor, highly underrated in my opinion. I love anything sci-fi, and this one is pretty well done. It's a good story, and has everything one would want in an entertaining film. Crazy events, things you would expect to see in the science-fiction film, great special effects, characters you care about, and, of course, once again, Adam driver! It's an entertaining sci-fi film, very well told story, and yeah it's not exactly "Jurassic Park," but with years of that franchise, this Dino film won't be unique but its still really good!
Silo (2023)
AWESOME SERIES!!! BINGE IF YOU CAN!
This series keeps you on the edge of your seat, it keeps you guessing, and the cast is phenomenal. Rebecca Ferguson plays just a bad ass, but nothing over the top. The rest of the cast play their characters very well, and I for one cannot wait to see what happens when season two comes out! This is a phenomenal series, and it's worth paying five bucks a month for Apple TV to see it! Sci-fi fans will absolutely love this. I know this is based on books, but I haven't read them, and there so many film and tv adaptations of great books that don't do the stories any justice, and while I haven't read the books, this adaptation of this story was done very very well! Highly recommended, definitely will grab your attention and hold it the entire time!
A Lonely Place to Die (2011)
Decent Film with some Suspense
This movie was just OK, not great. If you're looking for a movie with a lot of Heart pounding scenes with them, climbing and hanging off a cliff, and about to fall, there is actually very little of that in comparison to the rest of it.
I really liked watching Melissa George in this movie, she kind of carried the whole thing. The violence was visceral, and while you care about what happens and you can't wait to see how it turns out, there's no real revelations. They don't really explain a lot. Everything is kind of assumed. The deepest emotion I felt during this movie was hating the bad guys and really waiting for them to suffer.
Irréversible (2002)
Nothing Special - Arthouse Film - Stuff Happens, The End...
If you decide not to watch the movie, you are really not missing anything. The only good thing about this movie is that it is told in reverse, so it's kind of cool, I guess, but basically, this story is about this event with no twists or real edge of your seat drama, while some of the scenes are disturbing with the violence, it's like this happens, and that's it. I midway through the movie. I really just wanted to get to the end of it and find myself fast forwarding small sections through the dialogue because I just didn't care but wanted to see it thru, still hoping for some revelation but no.... Definitely not my kind of movie. This is a movie for those type of people that you know we're all into the cinematography, or the way the film is produced or made, the story itself is nothing special at all.
Talk to Me (2022)
Scripted reactions and behavior was not believable!
This move was just good, not great. Obviously for a movie like this you have to have suspension of disbelief and I did EXCEPT for the reactions and behavior of some of the characters. You mind yourself screaming at the screen for them to do things that ANY OTHER PERSON would do, regardless of the situation, believable or not.
Additionally, for some reason, the main character, Mia, really grated my nerves. She came off as really annoying and I just couldn't get past it.
Not really any jump scares which is fine with me but I was hoping for some better suspense. It's not very often that I think a movie is overrated (usually on the IMDB's reviews, I feel many movies are underrated) but this is one I feel like is overrated.
Dangerous Game: The Legacy Murders (2022)
Had potential but just ended up being sooo STUPID!
Acting was bad - especially the reactions when their kids died, they just shed a few tears and went on to trying to figure out the game. JRM "gives up" and what's himself die even though he has the key to his survival. So stupid. And then the girl at the end just all of a sudden she's the psychopath. The whole time with no emotion? Give me a break. Furthermore her mother reacting to her daughter, like she was just some psycho woman that she all of a sudden had disdain, for, instead of being realistically, heartbroken, and scared that this was a person that she gave birth to.
I find it hard to believe that these actors read the script and thought this is a great idea. They must've been desperate for roles.
El embarcadero (2019)
GREAT SERIES BUT WHERE IS SEASON 2 in USA??
I absolutely love with Alvaro Morte during Money Heist where he played la Professor, so I was excited to watch this one. The writers do a great job of building on the relationship between the two women which is an unconventional one. Many people might think that would never happen in real life but as you watch the series it's very believable. I am just really frustrated that there is a season two that I can't access here in the United States.
Absolutely fantastic story of unexpected love and pain, and there's a murder mystery to boot. The series ends in a complete cliffhanger, so not being able to access. The second seasoning is extremely frustrating! Hopefully somebody who is part of the production of this show sees this review and figures out a way for us Americans to be able to access season two. I actually subscribed to FlixLatino just to watch this, so come on guys...give us access here!
Diario de un Gigoló (2022)
GREAT SERIES! Don't Believe the Bad Reviews!!!
This series kept me engaged throughout every episode. They do a really good job of character build up, and the chemistry between Emmanuel and Julia was obvious throughout. All of the episodes move at a really good pace, nothing drags out too much and questions are answered in a timely fashion unlike other series, where it takes forever to get to answers and by the time you get there, you just don't even care about everything in the middle. This was not like that at all!
I love the fact that Victoria White's character had a natural beauty to her, she wasn't some eye candy like you see in female leads in many Latin American and Spanish productions. I'm an American, who watches a lot of Latin American in Spanish series and movies, mainly because American filmmakers and production companies just aren't putting out high quality content lately. This series was very very good IMO!
It's official they have canceled the series so we won't see a season two but they did for the most part wrap at the end so you might be left with 1 question - What is the outcome of the main characters following the last scene? BUT, it absolutely does not end in a cliffhanger.
The Lost Daughter (2021)
ALL BARK, NO BITE!
Tension throughout, leading the viewer to some revelation that never comes. The biggest let down for me was how selfish she was throughout and at the end, her daughters were so happy to hear from her - I expected them to have a strained relationship. I guess i feel it's unfair for to have no consequences for selfishness, like having to earn her way back into her girls' lives. Her character was weird and pathetic. I'm a mom of 4, and yes, we ALL struggle but her refusal to even kiss her daughters injury while she's crying and begging made me really feel disgust for the character. Bottom line, movie was slow and misleading because it strings you along in this build up to absolutely nothing. How this movie was nominated for 3 academy awards (or so I read), is beyond me!
