Baptiste (2019)
What a waste of talent
My score is 7 for the first series and 1 for the second.
Poor Tchéky Karyo. A superb actor, charming, charismatic and oh so watchable. But even his talent could not save the pigs ear of a second series. Unlike the first series the story line of the second was just awful. The screen son's acting appalling. The writers should never work again after churning out this drivel of a script.
I wanted to stop watching halfway through episode 5/6 but had come so far I may as well finish.
It's not up to me to tell you not to bother. It's up to you to find that out for yourself. You have been warned.
Britannia (2017)
Bonkers! (Review after one season)
The writing is a little bit bonkers.
The story is a little bit bonkers.
The language is a little bit bonkers.
The liberties taken with history is a little bit bonkers.
The soundtrack is a little bit bonkers.
The sets are a little bit bonkers.
Which makes Britannia total bonkers! Which is a good thing.
The acting from the stella cast by the way, from the young to the old is out of this world.
I'm not sure how this went under my radar but I'm more than glad I finally found it. And I intend to watch three seasons as fast as I can.
Ps. Don't get attached to any one character, you may regret it 🤐 and don't get wound up about history/language/nuances etc. It's only a setting for a great show.
28 Days Later... (2002)
I liked this, one upon a time
My younger self, twenty years younger really liked this film. Well I thought I did. In all these years I kept promising myself to revisit. I wish I hadn't, m not sure what my younger self was thinking. The film quality is awful (though not the cinematography), the script is bad and Danny had an off day. It hasn't aged well, either that or I haven't aged well. Which is actually quite plausible.
Margin Call (2011)
Glengarry it ain't
I'm English, fairly intelligent and my favourite film (sometimes) is Glengarry Glen Ross. I love films that make me think and I stumbled across this promised little gem. The cast assembled, all it needed was a good script. As I was taught in geology 101, 'just because you can polish a piece of coal doesn't mean you can call it a diamond.'
I don't understand the amount of reviews thinking this is a diamond. It's not. It's talent wasted. It's coal.
The Tomorrow War (2021)
Brilliant - for a half hour
Poor Chris did his best. It's like a cheaper z movie version of Starship Troopers. With, if possible, worse wooden dialogue and acting. I can't even waste time explaining the movie. Plot holes ugh. There's no bonding between father and older daughter. We. Just. Don't. Care. About. Them.
Getting ripped apart by one of the aliens is preferable to being subject to this rubbish.
Clarkson's Farm (2021)
Could of been tedious....
But wasn't.
I was afraid that it would just be Jeremy being Jeremy and we'd watch him blundering around for the entire series. After an episode I was afraid I was right.
But his learning curb was steep and it turned into a witty but REAL experience. Great supporting on camera crew. Especially Kaleb Cooper. A 20 year old who had never left chippy forging a believable friendship with a 60 year old. Well done everyone involved.
Made in Italy (2020)
Awful, or The Art of Plagiarism
Great cast..... wasted.
Neither dramatic nor a very good sideline romantic tale. Teaches us nothing about grief or as men, dealing with grief.
Filmed in Tuscany for the scenes but is way over saturated.
A 'Good Year' does it much better. Which I suspect the director/writer based it on. If I was Ridley Scott i'd sue due to plagiarism.
The Mandalorian (2019)
Jon Favreau brings Iron Man to the Galactic Empire
Half decent (5/10) space opera that isn't Star Wars. Jon Favreau steals the suit from one of his earlier franchise and (re)invents the Dark Troopers. Did no one tell him that droids have already been done. And if they're so good why aren't the Dark Troopers in the final trilogy.
Saying that good FX, acting and writing but just looks like someone has stolen the Star Wars back story to fit in with a TV series.
Unoriginal.
Ps what's the difference between bread and stormtroopers? Bread makes better soldiers.
Bridgerton (2020)
None achingly boring.
The British Georgian/Regency Queen with an afro. Oh and the writing, directing and acting is of the very worst. Shame.
Tiger (2021)
Time filler
Interesting recap that most of the audience watching will already know. Opening with Tiger handcuffed in jail will tell you all you need to know the underlying note of this papumentary. It could of started with him winning The Masters in 2001. One for the not so deep millennials.
The Great Escapists (2021)
Eye gougingly bad.....but
At the end of the first episode I wanted to pour acid into my eyes so I didn't have to watch any more, even by accident. By the end of the second episode I'm sold. The bond between the two presenters is becoming clearer and there's some science as well.
It's all pretty silly of course. Only a moron would think it's not scripted and there isn't a nice comfy hotel or some such off camera and they really were ship wrecked.
The biggest problem is two presenters from extremely successful TV shows doing something else.
Forget Top Gear, The Grand Tour and Mythbusters and you'll enjoy this, I promise.
Bulletproof (2018)
Oh dear bruv
Let's face it, we don't watch the show for BAFTA winning performances. Which is just as well. We watch it for the fun and action and the bond between the two male leads that make it so.
We can hope the action starts soon (pleeeese!) As the supporting cast's acting abilities make me want to crush my TV to pieces and force feed them to myself just to take the pain away.
