War of the Worlds (2019)
The best "war of the worlds" so far
Although very loosely resembling the original story it is still the same premise of humanity suddenly facing extermination by an alien race. As far as I can tell, the survivors, a random collection of lucky individuals are portrayed well, facing the world that has changed in a moment and forever. There are no soap subnotes, and slimy sidestories, just sheer, brutal reality. It how it would have been for real. I would assume a second season was planned since the ending was a bit of a cliffhanger. At the same time, the revelations from the last two episodes allow for (individually) drawn conclusions.
I would and I did reccommend it to others, and have received positive feedback.
The Humanity Bureau (2017)
Pretty good. And... somewhat prophetic
I will never understand people who complain about unrealistic plot in a sci fi movie, Rant about "cheap" scenes. Trash actors or directors for not fulfilling their ideas of perfect,...There have been many sci fi movies that have been quite prophetic or rightfully critical to the society we are becoming. Such a vile social management as depicted in this film, has occurred in the past and there is absolutely no guarantee, it cannot happen again. Anywhere in the world. But especially in the most powerful states or alliances. It is just a matter of contributing factors, circumstances and interest of the powerful.
The Humanity bureau (or every movie) could always be better, but sometimes, (for me always) the point is not the shine of the execution, but the message. It doesn't take a big book to tell something important. Neither a blockbuster movie.
The Untold History of the United States (2012)
if you have ever wondered, how the world today became as bad as it is.
Not all in the series is new to me, the basic premise is completely logical and self explanatory for any free thinking and open minded person on the planet. It falls in line both with objective historical narrative that we had studied and the one which we are facing, witnessing at present. We shouldnt be afraid or hate to hear a different truth from what we were taught to believe. Or what we chose to believe because it has made us feel good about ourselves.
We should always strive to better ourselves with learning and admitting our faults, leaving them behind, changing and progressing. US greatest moments appeared and passed in the course of WW 2. The country that became great because of its common people and then became its antipode because of the powerful and greedy. Think every empire of the past.
America is not great. It is large and strong. But stupid. It is a big piece of trouble on steroids, causing havoc all around the globe under pretext od democracy and freedom. In truth, because of profits and power. The Untold history nicely and accurately connects dots of historical events into a picture of today.
Ever wondered why has the USA, for decades, been one of the most detested countries in the world? Envy? Hell no. Watch this documentary and learn.
9 rota (2005)
Well worth a look and consideration...
...about how the perspectives shape our view of reality. ...about how absolutely archaic human nature is, despite all proclaimed progress....about how universal is the courage and valor of an individiual... about realizing being a pawn and playing the role to its best... about the reasons for the identical fate of the current western involvment in afghanistan...
I have always seen war movies as propaganda dumps, which, with few notable exceptions, they were.
Well, this is one of the exceptions.
It may force you to change some of your beliefs. It may change your opinion. It may bring you to learn more about history. It may help you accept some new chapters of reality. It may touch you for a second - If only that, it is enough.
Twin Peaks: The Return (2017)
Up to expectations. And more.
First of all. I completely understand the souls here, who have given the show lowest ratings. Watching The Twin Peaks 3 makes no sense if:
- you haven't seen the original series two or three times, over a span of several years. - You didn't like the original series. - You only saw the original series as a plain and simple criminal story with soapy countryside background plots. - You expect that in 2017, TV series should be downright dumb, plain, straightforward and super fast, leaving you no room to think, interpret, learn, understand and feel BY YOURSELF and for yourself.
It is not surprising though... we live in such times.
I thoroughly enjoyed the intro to the new Twin Peaks, slowly introducing the old cast, and slowly opening the lid over a 25 year long gap between 1992 and today. The first 4 episodes have made a very good impression and left me eagerly waiting for the next.
The original series has culminated in the revelations beyond a plain detective story. It has touched the occult, mysticism, parallel worlds, spiritual beings, secret military programs, the universal struggle between the good and the bad. It stopped there. hanging in the air for 25 years.
Everyone of us who have been curious about the fate of Cooper, his doppelganger and of course, the Twin Peaks society at large, expect the show to go deeper and farther into unimaginable, mysterious, fantastic, grotesque, weird, supernatural... whatever you want to call it. And there's been no doubt about how Lynch was going to do it: His way.
Now, you can either watch it open minded, with your eyes on details, clues, answered and new questions, feelings, new and old characters, superb camera and light, and ready for surprises.
Or, you try to stuff it down your throat with your eyes closed, forcefully digest it, hoping you will like it. But you cannot expect anything but hating it and s***t all over it in the end. Sady, several reviews suggest this kind of approach. It is usually better to leave the stuff you cannot handle, alone.
A plain 10 out of 10, for the big work, Mr. Lynch has done here. Totally polarized opinions confirm one thing: He nailed it again.
Edit: After 11 episodes, my initial impression has only been confirmed. The series has developed into an awesome plot of inter wined events, characters, clues; gradually building, answering, revealing, and always puzzling, mesmerizing, shocking, opening new questions. It is the only series in years, if not decades, that I actually wait to watch every week when it is aired. That does not confirm I am crazy or stupid or fake or paid like some of the big minds of this site would like to suggest, rather it shows, that there is a TV show, very much worth watching. For some.
Childhood's End (2015)
Watchable. With a book at hand.
At first I refused to watch it. After years of hoping someone will produce a decent theatre version of Clark's masterpiece, we were give this. Take it or leave it. Judging by reviews and comments, I got repelled, but then decided to give it a shot. I can always forget the TV version and read the book one more time, right? Still, despite all the anti-propaganda, I was positively surprised. Of course I didn't like the unnecessary details, Americanization and invented plots and characters. I didn't like the simplified last part with the end that went by just like that... Nothing dramatic, nothing profound... unless you watch carefully. Prior reading of the book is recommended.
My score is rather high because of two things: The fact that the story was finally put to screen, despite the weak result. Second, that it is possible to understand and see the whole story positively, as it should be seen. But you have to pay attention to the details. And not be limited by either your Ego or some imposed system ob beliefs.
Judging by reviewers responding to either the book or the series, it is apparent, that the majority on this planet is perfectly happy with the current state of affairs and the course the Mankind is embarked on. I find it difficult to believe, that they reject the act of Ultimate evolution and transcendence and rather see it as a tragic event, act of terror, destruction of Humanity, while at the same time, quite probably pray to God every day in hope it will grant them basically the very same thing. In the book, as well as in the series, merging with god was a gift to our children. As a parent, I'd be a selfish ignorant, If I didn't feel happy for them.
