Tonari no Totoro (1988)
Child-like wonder
As a fellow Ghibli enthusiast, this movie strikes almost all the right cords. The characters are irresistibly lovable, and the beautiful bond between the sisters is truly heartwarming, serving as the emotional core of the movie. The plot is simplistic in nature and yet just as enjoyable, Although I still felt like it lacked a bit of depth, with not enough emphasis on the underlying message of deforestation.
The world building isn't as expansive as other Miyazaki titles, but just enough to keep you captivated through the entire length. In classic Ghibli fashion, the movie makes you want to experience the amazing world yourself and spend time with the majestic creatures. The quality of the animation nothing short of divine, especially for a movie made more than 30 years ago.
All in all, an amazing movie and will definitely go down as a Miyazaki classic. 8/10.
