Perfectly fine popcorn movie
9 January 2021
Ignore the haters, this is entertaining enough to watch, maybe a solid 5.6 rating. You do get to see the creature, so it isn't some implied threat. She certainly handles everything thrown at her well, so I hope to see her in more "kick ass" style roles.

The music is a bit odd at times.

Be aware: Psychological SciFi
28 September 2019
Be aware that this is more of a psychological sci-fi movie, the usual case of humans entering space, everyone gone insane immediately. It is not the main point of the story, but features heavily, with lots of slow scenes, narration and flash-back to childhood memories. More similar to "Solaris", than "Life". The other side takes on its name "Ad Astra", as in the journey "to the stars" is full of hardships, the moon-pirates, space monkey, mars bureaucracy, space loneliness etc. All challenges in the way to his destination. Some of the science is iffy, but the vision of the future is neat. But there are a lot of daddy issues to get through.

You know, it's not THAT bad..
12 August 2010
All other reviews have been giving 1 out of 10, and proclaiming it as the worst movie ever. The movie is not as bad as that, and the kids enjoyed it and got a few laughs. As an adult it seemed aimed at the 6-8 crowd and worked as that. There have been children movies out recently that the kids did not manage to sit all the way through, for example, Chipmonks squeekle, Princess and the Frog, Planet 51, Aliens in the Attic and so on. Perhaps it had an advertising campaign that gave a different idea of what it is, which disappointed most viewers. The plot is simple enough and follows the classic 'protect nature' without being rammed down the viewers throats too much. Brendan Fraser appears to have put on quite a bit of weight for the role.

Fantastic!
4 January 2001
I had the fortune of seeing this film during the London Film Festival (which some queueing) and I thoroughly enjoyed it. There was a tiny amount of giggling from the audience when they first started to fly across the roof-tops, most likely from those not prepared, but that was quickly forgotten. Applauds followed the first intensive fight scene which is pretty rare in an English theatre. :) I thought this was an all around brilliant film for most kinds. My partner came out shocked as it is rather a sad/bitter-sweet story and she was just expecting fighting. :)
