Amarcord (1973)

Good but light.

While this film certainly has some poignant points about life, it is mostly the work of a great artist who has reached an age where he can view his childhood memories from a detached, nostalgic point of view. Visual splendour and humor abound, and it is a thoroughly delightful watch but I still like Fellini more, when he is more personally invested in the problems of his characters, as in Dolce Vita or 8 1/2.

Intruder (1989)
Nothing to see here

Not good enough to attract any sort of praise, and not bad enough to be funny, this movie has very little going for it. The first half hour nothing really happens, and when it finally does, its neither involving scary or gory. Others have applauded the 'interesting' camerawork, but it has no artistic justification what so ever and therefore just seems silly. See The Evil Dead again instead.

Macabre antics in Copenhagen

Tarantinoesque black comedy has strong relations to "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels" but doesn't share this movie's elegance and wittiness. Instead it gets carried away in a grotesque blood frenzy which at a certain point stops being funny and starts to be pretty disturbing. It has its moments but is basically rather unoriginal and has a certain wannabe-feel to it.
