As far as iconic franchises go, George Miller’s Mad Max films are right up there among Hollywood’s favorite films. Miller created the dystopian action series back in 1979 with Mel Gibson, which was followed by 2 successful sequels in the 80s.

Since its inception in 1977 by creator George Lucas, the Star Wars universe has invited some of Hollywood’s biggest names to participate in telling stories from a galaxy far, far away. On that note, imagine having the chance to star in one of the most iconic film sagas of all time, only to walk away with an unpleasant memory that seemed like it’d never fade.
Can an experience alongside a cinematic legend like Lucas ever be, dare we say, “boring”? Well, for Terence Stamp, acclaimed for his chilling portrayal of the villainous General Zod in Richard Donner’s Superman, a discouraging stint on the set of Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace left an indelible mark.

Never knowingly upstaged, George Miller’s latest Mad Max film features the franchise’s biggest stunt yet. Here’s how the Furiosa team pulled off the War Rig chase.
“If we were gonna make an action film”, production designer Colin Gibson said of Fury Road, “This was gonna be the last great action film”.
Six Oscars, $400m and almost a decade later, Gibson found himself and the Mad Max team back in the desert. Their mission? Make the last great action film. Again.
True to the series’ unsubtle ideology, almost everything about Furiosa is bigger. It’s 28 minutes longer, for a start, more a decade-spanning odyssey than Fury Road’s comparatively low-key 3-day car chase.
Its biggest stunt sequence, too, dwarfs anything in the last film. Shot over roughly 78 days (accounts vary on the exact number) with 200 stunt performers trying very hard not to get run-over or blown up, Furiosa...

Up next from Sinister, The Black Phone and Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson is The Gorge for Skydance and Apple Original Films, and the MPA rating has been handed in.
Scott Derrickson’s The Gorge is rated PG-13 for: “Intense sequences of violence and action, brief strong language, some suggestive material and thematic elements.”
Sigourney Weaver (Aliens) stars alongside Anya Taylor-Joy (The Witch, The Northman, Last Night in Soho, The Menu) and Miles Teller (Top Gun: Maverick).
The Gorge is said to be an action love story with “genre-bending” elements.

Filmmaker George Miller has made no bones about classic cinema’s influence on the Mad Max saga over the years. Iconic physical comedians like Buster Keaton or Harold Lloyd are cited often as inspirations for the queasy death-defying stunts that Max Rockatansky or Imperator Furiosa get up to, including when we spoke with the writer-director. He even muses to us, “Buster Keaton would survive very well, actually” in the fabled Wasteland.
Perhaps so too then would the stars he selected to bring his most epic adventure yet on the Fury Road to life. Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth are actors that most moviegoers will be familiar with when Furiosa opens later this month—although never in roles like these. “Mad Max” mastermind George Miller considered using de-aging technology so that Charlize Theron could star in his “Fury Road” prequel “Furiosa,” but says “it would have been difficult” to pull off. Instead, he opted to cast someone new in the role of Imperator Furiosa: Anya Taylor-Joy.
In a Variety cover story on Taylor-Joy and “Furiosa,” which premieres on Wednesday night at Cannes Film Festival, Miller said he had observed de-aging used in movies like Martin Scorsese’s “The Irishman” and Ang Lee’s “Gemini Man” starring Will Smith.
“Both of them were masterful directors, but it was never persuasive,” Miller said of the technology. “I thought all people would be watching is Charlize looking young and knowing it’s an effect. And as time went on and we got into litigation with Warner Bros, we had to find someone younger.”

The making of "Mad Max: Fury Road" is the stuff of legend, as chronicled in Kyle Buchanan's wildly entertaining book, "Blood, Sweat & Chrome: The Wild and True Story of Mad Max: Fury Road." That being the case, it's only to be expected that the cast and crew of the new prequel film, "Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga," would have some tall tales of their own to regale about what went into the making of director George Miller's return to the Wasteland. Doubly so for star Anya Taylor-Joy, who follows in Charlize Theron's footsteps by bringing the titular battle-hardened, shaved-headed, metal-armed, stoic post-apocalyptic warrior to life as a young woman in the movie.
Contrary to the nature of the "Mad Max" universe, Miller himself is renowned for running safe sets and has never been accused of abusing his actors or otherwise mistreating the members of his crews. The...

When Sydney Sweeney brandishes a curiously phallic laser gun for her reimagining of Barbarella, she could be doing so under the watchful eye of Edgar Wright. According to Deadline, Wright is in talks to direct Barbarella, with Jane and Honey Goldman negotiating to co-write the script.
As Deadline notes, bringing Jane Goldman aboard shows how serious Sony is about assigning strong talent to Sweeney’s dream project. Jane Goldman’s writing credits include screenplays for Kick-Ass, Kingsman: The Secret Service, X-Men: First Class, Stardust, the upcoming Kingsman: The Blue Blood, and more.
During the backlash for Sony’s abysmal Marvel film Madame Web, Sweeney said she joined the film to position herself to pitch Anyone But You. The rom-com was an admirable success, with $219M+ worldwide. With Sweeney being a bankable star at the studio, Sony is ready to shoot her into space for an action-packed remake of Roger Vadim...

Edgar Wright is in talks to direct the film for Sony Pictures, with Jane Goldman and Honey Ross in talks to write the script, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. The project is still in early development and is planned as a new take on the character that originated in a French comic series from Jean-Claude Forest.
Barbarella, a mercenary who travels the universe, was portrayed by Jane Fonda in a 1968 movie version that has become a cult favorite. Sweeney’s involvement in the new film was announced in 2022.
This continues Sweeney’s relationship with Sony, with the actress having starred late last year alongside Glen Powell in the studio’s rom-com Anyone but You before appearing with Dakota Johnson in this year’s superhero flick Madame Web.

A fun game those of legal drinking age can play while watching Roger Vadim's surreal/sexy 1968 Eurotrash space romp "Barbarella": take a drink every time Barbarella (Jane Fonda) changes costumes. One will be blindingly intoxicated by the 20-minute mark. "Barbarella" takes place in the distant future wherein the President of Earth (Claude Dauphin) has tasked the title heroine, a freelance space captain, to locate and retrieve Durand-Durand (Milo O'Shea) a scientist who has invented the positronic ray, a weapon of massive destructive power. Barbarella must trek through a picaresque adventure, stopping to be savaged by killer dolls, locked into an orgasm machine (!), and to befriend a friendly angel (John Philip Law). The film was based on the bawdy 1966 French comic by Jean-Claude Forest.

The Sydney Sweeney-led “Barbarella” film is taking shape, with Edgar Wright in talks to direct the picture for Sony. Jane Goldman and Honey Ross are in talks to pen the script.

Edgar Wright loves to talk about his favorite movies. And lavish praise on recent films as well, such as his enthusiastic response to “Challengers.” On May 7, he took to Twitter to post a long response about his latest obsession: George Miller’s upcoming “Furiosa.”
The film will make its debut at Cannes before opening in theaters May 24. But how do you follow up “Mad Max: Fury Road,” one of the most acclaimed action movies of this century? From the overwhelmingly positive first reactions, Miller’s answer appears to be: Don’t try to repeat yourself.
Wright believes Miller nailed it. Where “Fury Road” was a chase epic, “Furiosa” is a revenge film, Wright said.

And afterward, I cannot speak. I found it very traumatising to watch."The 'Last Night in Soho' actress also revealed that Miller constantly wanted her to perform scenes with her mouth closed – although she could understand why in the context of the movie.Anya said: "We'd do takes where he'd be like, 'Do it again with your mouth closed.' He has a thing about my mouth. He thinks when my mouth is open, I look too young."This is the wasteland, and any outbreak of emotion is punished by death.

As far as iconic franchises go, George Miller’s Mad Max films are right up there among Hollywood’s favorite film series. Similar to his namesake George Lucas and his brainchild Star Wars, Miller created the dystopian action series back in 1979 with Mel Gibson, which was followed by three successful sequels in the 80s.

Originally reported way back in 2021, Edgar Wright is directing a new take on Stephen King’s The Running Man, and Paramount has announced out of CinemaCon today that Glen Powell will star.
Edward Wright will direct the brand new movie adaptation of Stephen King’s novel and he will also produce along with his producing partner Nira Park and Simon Kinberg.
King’s novel, published under the pseudonym Richard Bachman, was released in 1982, loosely adapted into the same-titled Arnold Schwarzenegger-starring film in 1987.
Deadline reminds, “King’s futuristic novel is a chase thriller set in a dystopian America in the year 2025. The story centers on Ben Richards, a desperate man who participates in violent reality show “The Running Man” in order to win enough money to revive his gravely ill daughter. The show follows Richards being chased by numerous hunters, sent to kill him.”

Glen Powell is lacing up his sneakers.
The “Top Gun: Maverick” star will lead the cast of Edgar Wright’s “The Running Man,” taking on a role played by Arnold Schwarzenegger in the 1987 cult favorite. The dystopian action film is based on a novel of the same name by horror maestro Stephen King, which he first published under a pseudonym, Richard Bachman.
Wright, best known for directing the satiric zombie film “Shaun of the Dead,” will also produce the picture along with Simon Kinberg and Nira Park. The filmmaker, whose work overflows with style and wit, most recently made the psychological horror film “Last Night in Soho.” His other credits include “Hot Fuzz,” “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World” and “Baby Driver.”
Powell is on a hot streak lately and has found himself in demand by many studios who believe he has the kind of charisma that could make him a major star.

Australian filmmaker George Miller, whose origins story Furiosa will world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival next month before Warner Bros begins its global rollout May 22, says he’s still making Mad Max movies “because they’re very addictive.”
Miller was speaking at CinemaCon on Monday in Las Vegas where he received the International Career Achievement in Filmmaking Award. During a discussion with Warner Bros President of International Theatrical Distribution Andrew Cripps, Miller looked back at his path from medical doctor to director and delved into some of the history of the 1979 classic Mad Max, as well as sharing some insights into the upcoming Furiosa.
Miller, who was “always interested in cinema,” originally trained as a doctor and kept practicing even after he made Mad Max “because even though it was successful, I didn’t think I had it in me to be a filmmaker.” Eventually however, “I kept going.

Has it really been nine years since "Mad Max: Fury Road" barreled into theaters, reestablished George Miller as (arguably) the greatest action filmmaker on the planet, and made a blessedly clean break with the franchise's highly problematic (to put it lightly) star? Almost a decade later, everything about the film feels not just present, but prescient. Thematically, aesthetically, and politically, it was the perfect film for an uncertain time -- and, in terms of judiciously utilizing CG to enhance practical, large-scale stunt work, no one has come close to matching it.
"Mad Max: Fury Road" loses none of its high-octane impact on rewatch, but when you begin analyzing it on a purely technical level you can't help but wonder how in the heck Miller pulled it together without going, well, mad. No less a filmmaker than Steven Soderbergh has expressed total bewilderment (in a good way) over Miller's achievement. So...

With great power comes great responsibility. It’s a lesson Lucy Boynton (“Bohemian Rhapsody”) grapples with in Searchlight Pictures’ “The Greatest Hits.” The studio released the film’s trailer on Thursday, March 14, 2024.
In “The Greatest Hits,” Harriet (Boynton) finds that listening to certain songs (literally) sweeps her away to another time — like, she becomes an actual time-traveler. She is able to relive special moments with her deceased boyfriend (David Corenswet of “Pearl”), and could potentially even stop the car crash that killed him from even happening. It sounds like there’s a pretty big tradeoff, however, if she takes it to that point.
And then there’s the new guy, played by Justin H. Min (“Beef”), that she meets along the way. “Throughout her journey, Harriet explores the mesmerizing link between music and memory, facing her with difficult decisions of whether altering the past is a choice worth making,” the synopsis reads.

The long awaited follow-up to Denis Villeneuve’s awe-inspiring adaptation of Frank Herbert’s 1965 novel, Dune is finally upon us and it is every bit as impressive as expected. Often dubbed as unfilmable – David Lynch’s ill-fated adaptation of the novel in 1984 being a prime example – Herbert’s tome has clearly benefited from Villeneuve’s decision to break the story into several parts – Part 3 is undoubtedly in the works.
The forthcoming sequel reunites audiences with Timothée Chalamet’s Paul Atreides and his Fremen allies in a gripping battle to reclaim their homeland against the encroaching threat. Regarding Pedro Pascal’s involvement with Marvel’s forthcoming Fantastic Four film, the stretchy cat could be out of the bag! According to SAG-AFTRA, Pascal plays the patriarch of Marvel’s first family, Reed Richard, in the superhero spectacle, with production soon to begin. The reveal comes from a career retrospective organized and presented by SAG-AFTRA, saying Pascal “recently wrapped production on Ridley Scott’s highly anticipated Gladiator 2 and will soon begin production on Marvel Studios’ Fantastic Four.” SAG-AFTRA redacted the bit about Pascal’s involvement with Marvel Studios’ Fantastic Four, but only after eagle-eyed fans spotted the post.
While we’re still waiting for an official confirmation from Marvel, the SAG-AFTRA gaff lends credence to the long-whispered rumors about Pascal suiting up as Mr. Fanstastic.
Rumors about who will star in Marvel’s latest attempt to reboot the Fantastic Four have circulated since the project’s confirmation.

When Mad Max: Fury Road was released by Warner Bros. back in 2015, Mad Max saga mastermind George Miller already had ideas for more Max Rockatansky stories and a prequel that would focus on the Furiosa character. Unfortunately, before he could move forward with any of them, his production company had to take WB to court over unpaid Fury Road earnings, an issue that slowed things down for years. The problem was finally resolved and now, nine years after Fury Road, the prequel Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga has made its way through production and is set to reach theatres on May 24th. In anticipation of the film’s release, we have compiled a list of everything we know about this one – and you can check it out right here:

Eileen is adapted from the novel of the same name written by Ottessa Moshfeg. Alongside Mackenzie, the film stars Ann Hathaway, Shea Wigham, Marin Ireland, and Siobhan Fallon Hogan.
The film is set during a bitter 1964 Massachusetts winter, young secretary Eileen becomes enchanted by the glamorous new counselor at the prison where she works. Their...

Hollywood is leaving milk and cookies out for Olivia Wilde this holiday season with news that she’s striking a deal with LuckyChap to direct Naughty, a comedy described as Bridesmaids in the North Pole. Cocaine Bear writer Jimmy Warden wrote the script with Margot Robbie, Tom Ackerley, and Josey McNamara, producing through LuckyChap.
According to Deadline‘s exclusive report, Naughty follows Mallory, whose only hope of securing custody of her son from her gaslighting trashbag ex is to find Santa Claus in the North Pole and convince him to testify in her divorce hearing.
In case you forgot, LuckyChap produced Barbie, which earned $1.4 billion at the worldwide box office. Combine Barbie‘s success level with Wilde’s in-demand status as a filmmaker, and you’ve got a recipe for making money fall in a blizzard-like fashion.
Wilde’s next film is the biographical sports drama Perfect, starring McKenna Grace and Thomasin McKenzie.

This article contains major spoilers for "Eileen."
A lot of people know what they want when they buy a ticket to see a movie, or buy it on physical media, or click on a title in the streaming service of their choice. If it looks like a romantic comedy, they expect a romantic comedy, and they're likely to be disappointed if they get something else instead. This is where the concept of genre comes from, the desire to categorize films based on tangible qualities, so the audiences in the mood for certain storytelling or artistic styles can find what they're looking for. It's comforting to have at least some idea of what you're going to get, even if you don't know how exactly you are going to get it.
But then there are films like William Oldroyd's "Eileen."

A year ago we couldn’t have said definitively whether Wonka would be a delightful musical extravaganza or a total disaster. Either outcome seemed plausible. After all, was anyone actually clamoring for yet another version of the mysterious, magical chocolatier from Roald Dahl’s beloved book series?...
