In some cases, when actors deliver an iconic performance in a certain role, it’s hard to imagine anyone else playing the part. James Gandolfini’s performance as Tony Soprano is no different. Often considered one of the best TV shows of all time, The Sopranos still remains the best gangster drama to be put on the small screen, and a major reason behind it was the late actor’s performance.
Sylvester Stallone shared a similar viewpoint when reflecting on the show and had no hesitation taking shots at Gandolfini’s son, who played a young Tony Soprano in the 2021 prequel.

They’re going to need an even bigger dining room table.
Paul Giamatti, Joely Richardson, Alessandro Nivola, Simon Russell Beale and Arty Froushan are joining the third “Downton Abbey” feature film. Giamatti, who recently scored an Oscar nomination playing an ornery teacher in “The Holdovers,” is reprising his role as Harold Levinson, the bother of Elizabeth McGovern’s Cora Grantham, a part he played in the TV show that spawned the film franchise.
No word yet on who Richardson, Nivola, Beale and Froushan will portray. Nor are there any details about the plot, but this being “Downton Abbey” you can expect silverware to be polished to a high gloss, tables set with military precision and a mad dash to find an adequate number of ladies maids to service all the guests for this or that soiree.

For most directors, the art of filmmaking is an experience worth its weight in creative calories. For Alan Taylor, it was instead a harrowing one better left forgotten or chalked up as a bad dream. In hindsight, Thor: The Dark World wasn’t just a director’s worst nightmare but an agonizing ordeal for the audience who had to suffer through 112 minutes of a rotten piece of film that had no business existing within the realm of cinema.
Thor: The Dark World [Credit: Marvel Studios]In the later years, Taylor himself picked apart his Marvel project, proving there was no love lost between him and the Nordic God. But even Chris Hemsworth’s best efforts to preserve the sanctity of his leading role and Tom Hiddleston lending his Shakespearean expertise to the film’s drab plot couldn’t help make the final product any less painful for the Marvel fans.

For six seasons, they were stuck to their TV every week waiting for new episodes to air. Gandolfini’s influential career-defining performance as Tony Soprano won him multiple Emmys.

Michael Imperioli gained immense stardom after starring as Christopher Moltisanti in The Sopranos. A long-rumored video of James Gandolfini reprising his Emmy-winning role of Tony Soprano has been unearthed.
The footage (below) has Gandolfini and his co-star Edie Falco back in their roles as The Sopranos power couple Tony and Carmela.
The clip was privately produced in 2010 — three years after the HBO drama’s finale — in an effort to lure LeBron James to the New York Knicks.
The scene takes place “Two Years Later,” following the end of the show. “Yeah, life’s good here Carm, even if we are in the witness protection program,” Tony says to his wife. Then, they discussed the possibility of James moving to New York and finding him the perfect home: Madison Square Garden. The video was obtained by former ESPN host Pablo Torre and aired on his Pablo Torre Finds Out podcast. The scene starts at the 9:30-minute mark.

Premiering 25 years ago this January, David Chase’s crime saga The Sopranos has been a blessing and a curse for the creator. On the former side, he was behind what is still among the greatest television shows to grace the medium. On the latter, it’s been a difficult peak to live up to, the only projects he’s tackled since being his overlooked 2012 directorial debut Not Fade Away and revisiting the world in the disappointing The Many Saints of Newark, which he co-wrote and produced.
Now, Chase is finally getting back in the director’s chair for the first time in 13 years with a new feature: Deadline reports he’ll reteam with his Sopranos collaborator Terence Winter on a horror film at New Line Cinema. Chase has directing duties for the WB project, boasting a script he’ll write with Winter, marking the first time the duo have collaborated on a feature screenplay.

Long before the so-called "golden age of TV" arrived, "The Sopranos" seemed to hint at what was in store for the small screen. The groundbreaking show suggested what today seems axiomatic: that TV could be just as compelling, contain just as much tight storytelling, and feel just as premium as any movie. As far as television dramas go, "The Sopranos" set a standard that few series, even today, manage to meet.
Still, not everything the writers did was met with unanimous praise. The legacy of "The Sopranos" wasn't exactly sullied by what is surely one of the most divisive endings in TV history, but that infamous fade-to-black left some fans feeling let down by a series that never shied away from depicting the brutality of mob life. Put simply, you never really knew who was going to be offed from episode to episode, and while killing off characters on "The Sopranos...

Focus Features has bought international rights to Brady Corbet’s “The Brutalist,” starring Adrien Brody, Felicity Jones, Guy Pearce and Joe Alwyn, Variety has learned.
Corbet, who sits on the Berlinale jury, penned the film with Mona Fastvold (“The World to Come”), a Norwegian filmmaker who is also his wife. David Chase’s mobster drama paved the way for other gritty, boundary-pushing dramas, and is considered to have kicked off what’s often called the modern “Golden Age” of television. But now, that Golden Age is over, according to Chase himself.
In an interview with the Times U.K. (via The Guardian), Chase referred to the 25th anniversary of “The Sopranos” as a “funeral” for the type of sophisticated, ambitious television that his iconic show made popular and buzzy. He referred to the age of Prestige or Peak TV — which saw the rise of acclaimed shows like “Succession,” “Mad Men,” “Breaking Bad,” and “The Wire,” among many others — as a “25-year blip.”

Premiering last summer, “The Bear” has become the most-watched comedy series in FX history. Season 1 amassed a total of 13 Emmy nominations, making it the third most-nominated comedy this year behind “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” (14) and “Ted Lasso” (21). Included as part of their showcase is Jon Bernthal for Best Comedy Guest Actor for his performance as Michael “Mikey” Berzatto, his first Emmy bid after over 20 years working in the industry.
Like many actors, Bernthal’s first television appearance was in the “Law & Order” franchise on the spinoff “Law & Order: Criminal Intent” in 2002. After many appearances on a number of network dramas and sitcoms, he became known for his role as Shane Walsh in the first two seasons of “The Walking Dead,” and went on to work with such revered film directors as Martin Scorsese (“The Wolf of Wall Street”), Denis Villeneuve (“Sicario”) and Edgar Wright (“Baby Driver”). “The Twilight Zone” came on the air in 1959 — my freshman year in high school. And it made a mammoth impression. No one had ever seen anything like that. From the opening, where writer Rod Serling came out in his herringbone jacket with his cigarette and introduced the show: That, in itself, was entertaining. I just wanted to hear what Rod had to say about the mystery of the universe this time out.
Now, if you’re 13 years old, you could be easily scared by the stories “The Twilight Zone” told. But even now, as an adult, if you watch an episode, you would get the chills.

After a brief halt in production, AMC was able to secure “significant agreements” with the SAG-AFTRA actors union that allowed them to continue filming Interview with the Vampire season 2 during the SAG strike (which finally ended last month), keeping the show on track for its 2024 premiere. A specific premiere date hasn’t been announced yet, but TV Insider has gotten their hands on a pair of images that show Sam Reid back in the role of the vampire Lestat – and it looks like these images show Lestat in two different time periods. You can check them out at the bottom of this article.
Executive producer Mark Johnson has previously said that Interview with the Vampire season 2 takes place in the 1790s, 1940s, 1970s, and 2023. TV Insider is guessing that one image shows Lestat in the 1790s, while the other shows him in the 1940s.

Michael Imperioli (The White Lotus) is confirmed for a role in Academy Award nominee Paul Schrader’s new film Oh, Canada, Deadline has learned.
The actor joins an ensemble that includes Richard Gere, Jacob Elordi and Kristine Froseth.
An adaptation of the late Russell Banks’ 2021 novel Foregone, the film will tell the story of Leonard Fife (Gere), a famed documentary filmmaker who takes stock of his life, with not long to go after being stricken with cancer at 80 years old. The most unreliable of narrators — and of men — Fife offers the viewer a look at his home life, as a draft-dodging artist who abandoned one family for another, consistently evading any sense of responsibility for actions as he starts a new life in Canada.
Elordi plays a young Fife, seen from his late teens through his mid-20s, and Froseth shares 1968-set scenes with the Saltburn star as the character’s second wife,...

The folks at Studiocanal and Rialto Pictures have released a trailer, as well as the release date, for "Cat Person." The movie is based on Kristen Roupenians' 2017 short story of the same name that was published in The New Yorker, and features Emilia Jones from the Best Picture winner "Coda" having the hook-up from hell with Nicholas Braun, aka cousin Greg from "Succession." Bad hook-ups are common in the age of internet dating, sure, but in this case, things go from bad to downright scary.
Susanna Fogel directed the film, with Michelle Ashford ("Masters of Sex") penning the screenplay. The adaptation of the short story is due to hit theaters in October and figures to be a conversation starter as part of the fall moviegoing season. Let's roll the trailer.

The Sopranos saw a number of brutal and intense moments throughout its run, with some particularly graphic and shocking murders throughout its six-season run. Now, more than 16 years after Tony took his family out for onion rings and left the world wondering what happened when the screen went black, star Michael Imperioli – who played Christopher Moltisanti – is reflecting on The Sopranos scenes that gave him the toughest time.
While Michael Imperioli didn’t cite one specific scene from The Sopranos, he did point to his more intense moments – and there were a lot of them – with Drea de Matteo, who played Christopher’s girlfriend, Adriana. “The most brutal, difficult stuff for me is when Christopher had to be physically abusive with Adriana, for obvious reasons. On a technical level, you’re trying to be really careful so you don’t hurt the person. But having to get to that point of violence towards a woman,...

Michael Imperioli was recently asked by The Guardian to name the most brutal scene he’s ever had to film in his acting career, and his answer was any time his character on “The Sopranos,” Christopher Moltisanti, abused his fiancée, Adriana La Cerva (Drea de Matteo).
“The most brutal, difficult stuff for me is when Christopher had to be physically abusive with Adriana, for obvious reasons,” Imperioli said. “On a technical level, you’re trying to be really careful so you don’t hurt the person. But having to get to that point of violence toward a woman, you have to go to some nasty places to get there. Sometimes it’s very immediate. Sometimes it’s something present in your life that you can tap into. Sometimes you have to go someplace from the past. And sometimes you have to go to someplace imaginary.”

When we last talked, Ray Liotta was thinking a lot about mortality. “I’m at the age now there are some things you just forget,” he mused. “60 was a motherf*cker for me.” He was 64 at the time, soon to turn 65, but somehow his face, which once seemed older and wiser than its time, now seemed timeless. “Some people age better, and with some it’s like, ‘Whoa, what happened there!?’” he laughed.
“You’re like me,” he told me. “We look younger. You’ve got a babyface and you’re not lined. I have really oily skin. In high school it sucked because I had zits, so I have a whole complex about that to this day.”
He laughed with that twinkle in his eye that propelled his iconic turns in Something Wild, Goodfellas, Field of Dreams, not to mention Cop Land, Narc, Smokin’ Aces and Hannibal. He did plenty of forgettable films too,...

I've never been a fan of asking "what happens next" at the end of a movie or television show. If the director and the writers have done their job, the story worth telling is over. Everything I need to know about these characters and ponder about the narrative's themes has been relayed. All that's left to do is interpret what's been presented. That should be more than enough to chew on.
Alas, we live in an era of fan fiction where people would rather speculate than wrestle with what is hopefully a rich, challenging text. This is nothing new. For over 50 years, people have been wondering what happens to Benjamin and Elaine after they ride off in the bus at the end of "The Graduate." I've always liked screenwriter Buck Henry's answer. And when we do get sequels to great movies and series, the answers aren't always comforting or...

The second season of AMC’s Interview with the Vampire TV series has been filming primarily in Prague since April (with other locations including Paris and New Orleans) – but Deadline has been able to confirm that the production has now been halted due to the Screen Actors Guild strike. Some of the show’s stars are SAG, so filming won’t be able to resume until the strike has ended.

The Wrath of Becky, a sequel to the very cool “ultra violent Home Alone” thriller Becky, which was released in 2020, was given a theatrical release (courtesy of Quiver Distribution) last month. Now our friends at Bloody Disgusting have been able to confirm that the digital release of The Wrath of Becky is scheduled for this Friday, June 16th.
If you’re more interested in the physical media release, that is scheduled for August 8th, and copies of the DVD can already be pre-ordered on Amazon.

Filming for Marvel’s Daredevil: Born Again series is shutting down again because of complications brought on by the WGA writers’ strike. The highly-anticipated series needs to roll cameras at Silvercup East in New York. However, that’s where the primary picketing location for WGA members stands its ground. The latest pause for Disney+’s Daredevil series follows a previous shutdown when members of the Teamster Local 817 and IATSE Locals 829 and 52 would not cross the line.
Daredevil: Born Again is three months into an 8-month filming schedule. With the strike disrupting an already tight itinerary, Daredevil might not reach fans for quite some time.
Charlie Cox reprises his role as Matt Murdoch/Daredevil for the series. The actor officially rejoined the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Spider-Man: No Way Home and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. Vincent D’Onofrio will return as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin, with Jon Bernthal returning as The Punisher.
