Bust out the marmalade. Director Dougal Wilson, taking over for Paul King, unveiled the trailer for “Paddington in Peru,” the third entry in the wildly popular live-action-animation hybrid at a special event in London on Wednesday.
This new one brings back Ben Whishaw as the voice of the ursine hero, with Hugh Bonneville returning as the bear’s London father figure Mr. Brown.
New to the cast is Antonio Banderas as a swashbuckling sea captain and Oscar-winner Olivia Colman as a nun. Anyway, the Brown family heads to his native land of Peru (as per the title) ostensibly to visit Paddington’s Aunt Lucy at the Home for Retired Bears. But when they get there they discover she’s gone on some kind of walkabout, and have to go into the jungle to find her. Hijinks ensue.
The “Paddington” series has a worldwide gross of $500 million and made a serious imprint on wider culture.

Who’s ready for a fresh blast of weapons-grade charm? Paddington is back, and since its release in 2017, his last outing Paddington 2 has been widely hailed as one of the greatest films ever made. No pressure, then, for follow-up Paddington In Peru – an all-new adventure that takes everyone’s favourite bear back to his place of birth, with the entire Brown family in tow. All your favourites are back – but there are a few changes here. Notably, first-time feature director Dougal Wilson is bravely stepping in behind the camera, in lieu of Paul King; plus, Sally Hawkins is no longer playing Mrs. Brown having evolved into Wonka’s mum instead (see: Wonka), with Emily Mortimer now in that role. Check out the trailer here:
Let’s be honest: the lack of Paul King directing was always a bit of a worry going into this third Paddington outing. But from this trailer,...

Olivia Coleman plays a guitar-wielding nun in our first look at the third Paddington film. Check out the Paddington In Peru trailer below:
If you didn’t have “Olivia Coleman does The Sound Of Music” on your Paddington In Peru bingo card, have you even been paying attention?
Paul King’s first two installments owed a lot to the London-based Mary Poppins, so it only makes sense that the franchise’s first extended trip outside an urban metropolis would owe a debt to another 60s musical classic.
The already stacked cast from the first two is swelled by newcomers Olivia Coleman and Antonio Banderas alongside Emily Mortimer, who’s taking over Sally Hawkins’ role of Mrs Brown. The plot sees Paddington and the Browns taking a trip to (hold onto your hats) Peru to visit Imelda Staunton’s Aunt Lucy – a journey which apparently takes an unexpected detour through a...

Award-winning Colombian director-producer Simon Brand and Miami-based media executive producer Daniel Eilemberg have joined forces with the founders of Emmy-winning Imaginer Films, Julio César and Laura Franco, to launch Clover Studios, a new production services company in Colombia.
The new enterprise is in response to Colombia’s phenomenal growth as a major production center, driven by its competitive production incentives and flourishing creative community.
Led by Netflix’s ambitious series adaptation of Nobel Laureate Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s literary masterpiece “100 Years of Solitude,” which has entailed a full-scale recreation of the mythical village of Macondo and 20,000 extras, a number of high-profile projects have been lured to the country.
Just last year, upcoming sequel “Paddington in Peru” was mostly shot in Colombia instead of the country in its title. Director Paul King is best known for delivering the first two installments of the charming and delightful "Paddington" franchise. Sadly, he won't be at the helm of "Paddington in Peru," the forthcoming third film in the series, but that's because he opted to step into the sweet world of Roald Dahl with "Wonka." The origin story of the famed chocolatier from "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" has become one of the biggest box office hits of 2023, and King is already working on potential ideas for a "Wonka" sequel. But 20 years ago, Paul King was just a scrappy young filmmaker cutting his teeth on a cult favorite comedy series across the pond.

Another spooky season has come and very nearly gone. The leaves are changing colors, the days are getting shorter (and colder), and it's time to start gearing up for the annual end-of-year rush of awards players. Not that that's any reason to stop the scary times from going. If you're like me, you'll probably spend the first part of November just catching up on all the spine-chilling entertainment you had intended to get to in October (there's just too darn much to cram into a single month -- I only barely got started on the new "Goosebumps" series). Of course, if you'd prefer to get a head-start on the winter holidays, you could instead tune in to Max, which will be adding plenty of beloved festive titles over the next few weeks, and much more.
Here are our top picks for November, along with everything else that's coming to the streamer that month.

Who doesn't love Paddington, the cuddly bear who emigrated from darkest Peru all the way to the bustling streets of London in search of a new home and an adoring family to take him in? Based on the immensely popular children's books by the late author Michael Bond, with the main character voiced to perfection by actor Ben Whishaw, "Paddington" becoming a live-action franchise was just about the biggest no-brainer of a decision any studio ever had to make. It paid off big time when the 2014 movie released to overwhelmingly positive reviews and led to a sequel three years later that inspired even more rapturous reactions -- one that inspired many a seasoned movie-watching veteran to throw around the M-word (masterpiece!) with complete and utter sincerity. Everyone, even the most stubborn and cold-hearted grump, comes around on Paddington eventually!

With all that is going on — and has been going on in the last few years, it's somewhat reassuring that Paddington will be back on our screens next year. Even if Paul King isn't directing (he's still involved as a producer), the return of the diminutive, kindhearted bear is something to look forward to. And now we know he'll be back on UK screens next year.

In a significant declaration of large intentions and strategy at Studiocanal, owned by Vivendi’s Canal Plus Group, Françoise Guyonnet has been appointed Studiocanal CEO Copyrights Group and EVP Kids’ Brands as the European production-distribution giant looks to drive powerfully into children’s IP.
Studiocanal described the appointment in a written statement on Thursday as “a confident move for the studio which wishes to accelerate growth in children’s IP.” Copyrights Group is an international intellectual property management agency, it added.
The new high-ranking role for Guyonnet at Studiocanal has been announced just two days after it unveiled plans at Brand Licensing Europe (Ble) to produce with Superprod Group and Mercis a CGI series of world famous character “Miffy,” created in 1955 by Dutch author-illustrator Dick Bruna. The new ‘Paddington’ movie is reportedly shooting despite the strike that has brought Hollywood to a standstill. ‘Paddington in Peru’ starring Ben Whishaw, 42, is said to be filming in the UK as part of a handful of productions which are going ahead amid the 171,500-strong actors’ and writers’ walk out. The Independent reported: “The Paris and London-based Studiocanal, which produces ‘Paddington’, is not a member of the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), the body with which the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) union is in dispute.” But it added a new Paddington cast member, Rachel Zegler, 22, left London after the strike was called and joined fellow actors on a New York SAG-AFTRA picket line, partly over fears AI will be used by studios instead of humans. The UK industry is highly vulnerable to the strike since it has become the favoured location...

The 2023 Cannes Market is behind us, and like clockwork, Neon managed to buy the winner of the Palme d’Or for the fourth straight year, Justine Triet’s “Anatomy of a Fall.”
But that wasn’t the only major sale. This year’s Marché du Film netted major domestic deals for some of the buzziest competition titles such as Todd Haynes’ “May December” and Aki Kaurismäki’s “Fallen Leaves,” as well as hot packages like “Paddington 3.” But uncertainty over the writers strike still loomed large, and distributors favored completed projects over packages.
Below are some of the deals we’ve tracked out of Cannes so far, and we’ll be updating this space with more sales as they come in.
Title: “Anselm”
Section: Special Screenings
Distributor: Sideshow and Janus Films
Wim Wenders had not one but two separate films play at this year’s Cannes, and now each have found a home.

Paddington in Peru will be the feature debut of Dougal Wilson, the award-winning commercial and music video director. Heyday and StudioCanal are producing the feature. Filming will be done on location in London and Peru.

In bumper Cannes dealing, Paris-based European film-tv powerhouse Studiocanal has nearly sold out worldwide on Andrew Garfield-Florence Pugh romantic drama “We Live in Time,” executive produced by Benedict Cumberbatch.
Owned by Vivendi’s Canal Plus Group, Studiocanal has also closed half the world on both James McAvoy’s “Control” and Thomas Cailley’s Un Certain Regard opening film “Animal Kingdom,” a critics’ favorite at this year’s festival.
The banner sales news, replicated across other titles on Studiocanal’s broad sales slate, follows quick on the heels of two signature deals at Cannes: A24’s U.S. pickup on “We Live In Time”; a pact with Sony Pictures for the U.S., Canada and much of the world for “Paddington in Peru.”
In further dealings, Studiocanal has seen first break-out sales on action comedy “Only 3 Days Left,” and smart genre slasher “Wake Up,” plus noteworthy additional sales on the Berlin-launched...

The unseasonably cold and rainy weather in Cannes this year didn’t put a damper on business, but the writers strike loomed like a storm cloud, threatening a deluge.
There were plenty of deals, big and small, in the Cannes Marché du Film, which drew more than 13,500 participants this year, an all-time record, exceeding pre-pandemic figures. As the market drew to a close, Netflix closed an eight-figure deal for North America for May December, the Todd Haynes-directed dramedy starring Julianne Moore and Natalie Portman. The pickup, reportedly worth $11 million, is a domestic-only, non-global agreement, a setup that used to be rare but could become increasingly common as streamers tighten their focus on individual territories and local audiences. CAA Media Finance and UTA Independent Film Group are handling domestic rights for May December, with Rocket Science brokering international deals.
