- TriviaIn the Ancient Egyptian pantheon, Neith is the Egyptian goddess of war and hunting.
- GoofsGarrett gives the biographic information of the initial murder victim Malik Said as attending ROTC in college and serving in the Army for two years until honorably discharged with an injury. At the same time, a service photo of Said in uniform shows him as a one-stripe private wearing a shoulder patch of the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment, a Regular Army unit; he should have been a second lieutenant, or if he had attended ROTC without actually completing college, at the very least a private first class (one stripe and one rocker).

Russ Montgomery: What special honor brings you to my office?
Penelope Garcia: Where's my octopus coffee mug?
Russ Montgomery: Excuse me?
Penelope Garcia: Uh-uh, don't! Beth, from carpool, told me she saw you take it from the kitchen
[start searching the office]
Russ Montgomery: Have you asked yourself why you're listening to someone whose glasses are thicker than old coke bottles?
Penelope Garcia: Beth's stigmatism has no bearing on her veracity
Russ Montgomery: I think Beth is just a little bitter that someone didn't give her a call back after the first date.
Penelope Garcia: What?
[stops searching]
Russ Montgomery: She had an indefensible position on Moore's Law
Penelope Garcia: Semiconductor density is a super sexy topic! With transistors approaching single atom width, Moore's law is only relevant for...
Russ Montgomery: She thought it was invented by Roger Moore and enforced by the 007
Penelope Garcia: Oh, but it doesn't preclude her having seen you taking my octopus cup fof drinking
Russ Montgomery: Except the fact that I don't drink coffee
Penelope Garcia: Oh, good point. Hug it out?
Russ Montgomery: Not necessary.
[Garcia hugs him anyway]
Russ Montgomery: Okay
Penelope Garcia: [while walking out of the room] LAN-party, Wednesday, my crib
Russ Montgomery: Of course, I'll bring the bean dip
Penelope Garcia: BYOC
Russ Montgomery: [Checks Garcia has left] I don't drink coffee
[walks to a drawer]
Russ Montgomery: and do enjoy
[opens it, and picks out the octopus mug]
Russ Montgomery: a nice cup of tea
- ConnectionsReferences Criminal Minds (2005)
The show's third episode "Denial" is not quite as bad as the first episode "The Harmful One", being not quite as offensive. Then again it would have done a lot more bad to be worse than the for me worst first episode of any show, am not joking here. It does have the same flaws as that episode though and after an ever so slight improvement in "Harvested" (not saying much) the quality is back to where 'Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders' started.
"Denial" is very close to being total doom and without redeeming qualities, but Alana De La Garza (the most consistently only halfway decent thing about 'Beyond Borders') does decently with the little she has. Unfortunately she deserved much more and much better to work with.
Gary Sinise is sleepwalking again, while Annie Funke and Tyler James Williams grate on the nerves. Did hope that Kirsten Vangsness would liven things up, but Garcia's dialogue is very poorly written here (really felt for her when having to sit through that very awkward exchange between her and Russ) and didn't really see much point here, if anything she felt even more shoehorned in than Rossi did in "The Harmful One". Really didn't care for any of the characters, people will find the stereotypes and culture portrayal objectionable and the chemistry between the team isn't there. Same with any little character moments and how they work in solving the case isn't delved into enough. The perpetrator has no menace or with anything that makes one feel sorry or anything for them, they are just bland.
Writing is condescending and awkward and the story is dull and never really plausible. Found it pretty muddled too, and tension and suspense (or even any kind of atmosphere) were nowhere in sight. The visuals again are choppy and obvious and the music is overbearing and could have done with being used less, it is also at odds with everything. One never really feels like they are in the setting, so much the lack of authenticity.
Summarising, worse than very bad. 1/10
