Movistar Plus+, Spain’s most-viewed pay TV operator, is partnering on “Los domingos,” a new film from “Lullaby” director Alauda Ruiz de Azúa and the producers of that critically acclaimed film.
A Movistar Plus+ Original, “Los Domingos” is set in and will shoot in Ruiz de Azúa’s native Basque country, said Nahikari Ipiña at Sayaka Producciones (“Colossal”).
Now in development, “Los Domingos” is produced by Movistar Plus+ and Sayaka and Marisa Fernández Armenteros’ Buenapinta Media (“The Mole Agent”), Sandra Hermida at Think Studio and Colosé Producciones (“Society of the Snow”) and Manu Calvo (“Wounded”).
“‘Los domingos’ is a co-production between Movistar Plus+ and four producers and as independent producers for us that’s important,” Fernández Armenteros said at Cannes.
“Domingos,” which shoots in the first half of 2025, is a drama, although plot details are under wraps.
“It is such luck to accompany Alauda in ‘Los domingos’ after ‘Lullaby’ success with audiences and critics.

Anne Hathaway is one of the most recognized actors in the world and has been a part of many blockbusters and iconic films. She had her breakthrough with The Princess Diaries and then went on to star in acclaimed comedies such as The Devil Wears Prada and Ella Enchanted. She also moved to the dramatic category with films such as Les Misérables.
The actress recently starred and produced in the romantic drama The Idea of You, which saw her paired up with Nicholas Galitzine. Hathaway revealed that as a producer, she could bring in a lot of changes in the process of auditioning the actors. She recounted a practice in the early 2000s where she had to kiss multiple guys to find the right fit during a screen test.

Anyone who has seen "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire" — and going by the film's impressive box-office numbers, that oughta be most of you out there — knows that Dan Stevens is an absolute delight in it. To be fair, this isn't a huge surprise, as anyone who's been following Stevens' on-screen career knows that the actor is routinely a highlight of everything he appears in, whether he's the lead in something like FX's "Legion" and "GxK" director Adam Wingard's "The Guest" or (and sometimes especially) when he's appearing as a supporting character in films like "Colossal" or this month's "Abigail."
His role of Trapper in "GxK" seems particularly special, however, given that Stevens isn't merely playing a comic relief character. Instead, he's some unique combination of a wonder-filled adventurer, an animal-loving veterinarian, and a laid-back hippie dude. That's just one way of describing Trapper, however — Stevens himself has...

It’s been less than 12 years since Dan Stevens raised a middle finger to the British aristocracy, quitting “Downton Abbey” as the show neared its Emmy-amassing zenith and setting sail for America with his family. As he admits, he had “absolutely no idea” what was going to happen to him.
“There was no roadmap,” the 41-year-old actor explains with frank honestly about a decision that, at the time, was considered by many to be sheer lunacy. “I left ‘Downton’ with a blank slate. It was just, ‘I think I want to do other things.’ But I didn’t know what that looked like.”
To have an idea of what that currently looks like, anyone need just head to their nearest cinema, where Stevens is going head-to-head against himself in two of the biggest studio releases of the season. In what has become something of a calling card for the Brit...

From a certain perspective, monster movies might not seem to be as relevant during monstrous times. But in an age when our fears seem larger than life and the world constantly seems as though it’s on the brink of collapse, the best examples of the genre can almost assume a documentary-like authenticity, reflecting our reality as vividly as vérité ever could.
“The Babadook” might be about a demon that pops out of a children’s book, but no recent film does a better job of capturing the acute reality of living with grief. “Cloverfield” follows a gaggle of pre-Instagram model millennials as they’re chased around Manhattan by a bug-eyed colossus, but few of the somber post-9/11 dramas do a better job of distilling the heartsick chaos of watching your hometown try to make sense of a senseless attack. “The Village” is...

David Robert Mitchell (It Follows) is directing a genre movie for J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot that’s so secretive we didn’t even have a title. Until now. And we also have a release date!
Deadline reports today that the mysterious event movie from Bad Robot and David Robert Mitchell is titled Flowervale Street, with an IMAX release date set for May 16, 2025.
Now that we have a title and a release date, what about a plot synopsis? Well, that part is still a secret. We have literally no idea what Flowervale Street is about at this time, but we’d like to at least recklessly speculate that it’s a Cloverfield Universe movie. It’s more than likely not, mind you – this is a Warner Bros. Pictures project versus a Paramount release, for starters – but there’s just something about that title that feels very… 10 Cloverfield Lane, isn’t there?...

David Robert Mitchell (It Follows) is at the helm of a mysterious new genre movie for Bad Robot and Warner Bros., starring Ewan McGregor and Anne Hathaway. Per Variety, Sundance breakout star Maisy Stella (My Old Ass) has nabbed the third lead role.
Maisy Stella joins previously announced cast members Ewan McGregor (Doctor Sleep) and Anne Hathaway (Colossal).
Plot details remain tightly guarded since the project was announced, but the movie is categorized as a thriller. Considering Bad Robot is behind the Cloverfield films, Overlord, Super 8, and more, it feels safe to presume the untitled project will be a genre thriller of some sort.
Originally reported by Jeff Sneider and John Rocha on their show “The Hot Mic” last year, the mysterious new project is reportedly set in the 1980s… and features dinosaurs?! If so, Hathaway’s turn in Colossal might make her well poised to take on the prehistoric beasts.

First announced in early January, CBS has given a series order for “NCIS: Origins,” which takes place in 1991, years before the events of “NCIS” and follows a young Leroy Jethro Gibbs (narrated by Mark Harmon) through his career as a newly minted special agent at the fledgling NCIS Camp Pendleton office, where he forges his place on a gritty, ragtag team led by NCIS legend Mike Franks. Playing a young Gibbs will be Austin Stowell, the network announced today.
Stowell’s television credits include “A Friend of the Family,” “The Hating Game” opposite Lucy Hale, and “Breathe.” He also starred opposite George Clooney, Chris Abbott and Hugh Laurie in the limited series “Catch 22,” the Steven Spielberg anthology series “Amazing Stories,” and “Public Morals,” which was also executive produced by Spielberg and Ed Burns.

If Ann Landers had it right, and hanging on to resentment amounts to letting someone you despise live rent-free in your head, then “Your Monster” is what happens when you kick open the door and let those feelings run amok. Drawing from personal experience, writer-director Caroline Lindy delivers a clumsy metaphor of a movie, in which a promising young actor named Laura Franco (“In the Heights” star Melissa Barrera) has her Broadway dreams derailed by a cancer diagnosis, only to discover a ferocious inner strength, courtesy of the beastly creature she finds hanging around her childhood home.
In what amounts to a heavy-handed empowerment tale, the monster in question is at first a surly roommate, later a potential love interest and ultimately a manifestation of Laura’s long-suppressed sense of rage. The symbolism isn’t exactly subtle as Laura learns to break free of her polite good-girl upbringing and embrace those roiling emotions.

Thomasin McKenzie has a doozy of a day, the kind she’ll never forget in the first trailer for “Eileen.” Set during a grim 1964 Massachusetts winter, the William Oldroyd-directed noir concerns a young and impressionable secretary who becomes understandably enraptured by a new counselor (Anne Hathaway) at the prison where she works. The trailer doesn’t spell out what diabolical doings will be done, but the implication is Hathaway goes full femme fatale.
Alongside its two top-billed stars, “Eileen” features Shea Whigham, Siobhan Fallon Hogan and Owen Teague (who will soon headline “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” alongside Freya Allen).
Based on Ottessa Moshfegh’s novel of the same name and produced by Fifth Season, “Eileen” debuted to positive reviews at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. Neon picked up the picture and plans to give it a year end awards season push. Audiences can expect a...

Exclusive: Ed Harris (Westworld), Sonequa Martin-Green (Star Trek: Discovery) and Natalie Morales (No Hard Feelings) have closed deals to lead My Dead Friend Zoe, a dark dramedy about two generations of veterans, family and friendship, which Kyle Hausmann-Stokes will direct in his feature debut.
The film written by Hausmann-Stokes and A.J. When the vet is summoned to the remote lake house of her estranged Vietnam vet grandfather (Harris), she is tasked with providing the one thing he refuses…help.

Based on a Japanese manga by Garon Tsuchiya Nobuaki Minegishi, Park Chan-wook's 2003 film "Oldboy" is a sensational, harrowing, violent, exhilarating opera of sin, retribution, and tragic twists worthy of Shakespeare. Tapping into a particularly Korean sense of social anxiety, it explores experiences of free-floating guilt and the sense that one might be punished at any moment for a slight you didn't know you committed. It's a panic attack of a film that swings for the walls -- literally, with a hammer -- and thwacks a few skulls in the process. Aggressive, enormous, bloody, and blunt, "Oldboy" may be one of the best films of its decade.
In 2003, Park's film -- the second part of what the filmmaker called a Vengeance Trilogy -- received a lot of attention. It won the Grand Prix at Cannes and dozens of other film awards besides. Quentin Tarantino talked it up immensely, and critics gushed.

Evidently, audiences want to see the William Shatner documentary “You Can Call Me Bill” so badly that a good chunk of them were willing to pay for it to be made in the first place.
“You Can Call Me Bill” premieres Thursday at SXSW, with Shatner himself set for a keynote conversation at the festival alongside the doc’s debut. But the film came about through an equity crowdfunding experiment by the film’s producers, Legion M. The production company’s principals Paul Scanlan and Jeff Annison tell IndieWire that “You Can Call Me Bill” managed to raise over $750,000 in a span of just four days. That number easily surpassed the film’s lean budget and has fueled its appearance and promotion at SXSW this week.

Jason Sudeikis is arguably most recognized now for his award-winning work in the acclaimed Apple TV+ series "Ted Lasso," but the actor had a strong start in the entertainment industry before that. A number of great movies are leaving HBO Max at the end of March, so it’s time to prioritize these titles in your queue. Filmmaker James Gunn’s sequel/soft reboot “The Suicide Squad” will depart the streaming service on March 22 after first hitting HBO Max the same day it was released in theaters back in 2021. Similarly, “Space Jam: A New Legacy” was whisked away on March 1 after also getting a day-and-date release in 2021 (sorry/not sorry if you missed it).
You also only have until March 7 to stream “Just a Boy From Tupelo: Bringing Elvis to the Big Screen,” a short documentary on the making of the Oscar-nominated biopic “Elvis.”
Other noteworthy films leaving HBO Max this month include “The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford,” “Contagion,” the extended version of “Dances with Wolves,” “Ghostbusters,” “Four Weddings and a Funeral,” “Love & Basketball” and “Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping.

Being a Kaiju fan wasn’t always this easy. Not only were dubbed and subtitled copies of Japanese monster movies hard to come by before the advent of online streaming and boutique Blu-rays, but it was also hard to find other cinephiles with the same taste for rubber-suits and cardboard destruction. Fortunately, times have changed, with the rise of internet culture allowing what were once niche interests to find their way into mainstream culture.
However, while general audiences are now mostly aware of Godzilla and his titanic rogues’ gallery, there’s still a whole world of untapped kaiju flicks out there, just waiting to be discovered by a new generation of fans. And with the internet making even the most obscure creature features more accessible, we’ve decided to come up with a list celebrating six Kaiju movies that aren’t Godzilla-related.

There’s nothing quite like when HBO is airing one of its trademark watercooler-worthy dramas weekly. Thankfully, we’ll get to it experience exactly that and more on HBO Max in March 2023.
The big ticket item on HBO Max this March is undoubtedly Succession Season 4 on March 26. Part prestige drama and part screwball comedy, Succession is about as fun a watch as they come. Season 4 of the series about egregious wealth will find the Roy siblings reeling after trying and failing to take down their father, Logan (Brian Cox).
HBO Max’s other major TV option this month is another weekly release from HBO. Matthew Rhys returns as the titular lawyer in Perry Mason Season 2 on March 6. Season 1 of this period piece reboot flexed the classic TV character’s detective skills. From the look of the trailer, it seems as though this is the year Perry makes his name in the court room.

It’s easy to take Anne Hathaway for granted. She’s that smart tall girl who always does her homework, raises her hand, and knows the answer. She’s been in demand in Hollywood since her 2001 breakout in “The Princess Diaries” and she’s been rewarded for her doing her best: She earned a Best Actress Oscar nomination for her recovering addict in Jonathan Demme’s 2009 drama “Rachel Getting Married, and she won the Supporting Actress Oscar in 2013 for her moist and skeletal singing of “I Dreamed a Dream” in “Les Misérables.”
And then, social media slagged Hathaway for her goody-two-shoes perfectionism. At last week’s Elle annual Women in Hollywood tribute, Hathaway admitted that her time in the virtual hate box left scars. “Ten years ago, I was given an opportunity to look at the language of hatred from a new perspective,” she said. “For context — this was a...

Legion M co-founders Paul Scanlan and Jeff Annison will be the first to tell you great art isn’t made by committee. The studio behind cult hits like “Mandy,” “Colossal” and “Jay and Silent Bob Reboot” believes that its “fan-owned” approach to movie making can disrupt the way Hollywood thinks about franchises, leaning on its own loyal network of like-minded fans and investors to take risks and make smart, data-driven decisions about emerging filmmakers and original stories that the average film executive wouldn’t. “We want to give our shareholders a direct voice in their company, for their benefit,” Annison told TheWrap for this week’s Office With a View. “But the other thing is our shareholders collectively are a lot smarter than Paul and I. It’s amazing how many decisions, particularly in Hollywood, come down to the gut feel of an executive or two. We just feel like...

A documentary about the life and career of Captain Kirk himself, William Shatner, is in the works from Legion M and Exhibit A Pictures, the companies announced Thursday.
Alexandre O. Philippe is directing the untitled documentary film that’s being billed as the definitive movie about the 91-year-old “Star Trek” and “Boston Legal” icon, and the producers plan to debut footage from the film at San Diego Comic-Con 2022. Shatner will speak on a panel held in Hall H as moderated by “Clerks” director Kevin Smith.
“For years I’ve had people approaching me to do a documentary about my life, but I turned them all down because it didn’t feel like the right fit. With its list of new releases for June 2022, HBO Max is joining in what should be a TV summer to remember.
Not content to let Netflix’s Stranger Things or Prime Video’s The Boys to dominate the summer TV landscape, HBO is coming through with a new season of one of its big hits. Westworld season 4 is set to premiere June 26 on both HBO and HBO Max. What will this season of the increasingly confusing sci-fi drama be about? Per HBO’s synopsis it will be “A dark odyssey about the fate of sentient life on earth.” So you know, only that.
Irma Vep is the only other Max Original of note this month. Based on a 1996 cult classic of the same name, this limited series stars Alicia Vikander as a disillusioned movie star looking to remake the early 20th century French silent film serial Les Vampires.

Here's the elevator pitch for "Colossal": Anne Hathaway is a party girl with a heart of gold and every time she gets drunk, a giant monster terrorizes Seoul. This combination of words makes next to no sense and yet, this movie really does exist and is even more thrilling than you can possibly imagine.
"Colossal" advertises as a city-stomping monster movie — or at very least, the head-scratching kaiju on the poster does that for it. In reality, Nacho Vigalondo's inventive hybrid is too complex to classify. A romantic comedy crossed with a monster movie, "Colossal" is comedic camp and a dejected...

Though the confusingly named initiative “FX on Hulu” is on its way out, FX is still bringing premium television to Hulu in the meantime.
Hulu’s list of new releases for April 2022 is highlighted by FX limited series Under the Banner of Heaven. This adaptation of the non-fiction book by John Krakauer stars Andrew Garfield as a Mormon police detective whose faith is shaken when investigating a murder involving the church.
It’s not all just FX on the TV side of things for Hulu this month, however. The streamer is debuting second seasons of its series The Hardy Boys (April 6) and Woke (April 8). There isn’t much to report from Hulu’s original movies arm aside from true crime documentary Captive Audience on April 21. But that doc about one family’s 50-year journey for justice sounds like a must-watch.

Zdf Enterprises (Zdfe) has acquired the international distribution rights to Spanish horror anthology “Stories to Stay Awake,” in Spanish “Historias para no dormir,” for all territories outside of Spain, Portugal, Italy and Latin America, which will be handled by series producer ViacomCBS International Studios.
50 years ago, Chicho Ibáñez Serrador became a household name in Spain thanks to his creation “Historias Para No Dormir,” a Spanish series which aired from 1966 to 1968 and again in 1982. In 2005, the IP was reformatted for the big screen as a group of shorts in “Peliculas Para No Dormir” (Movies to Stay Awake), with Ibáñez’s contribution “La Culpa” being the filmmaker’s final directorial work. He was joined then by several other Spanish genre masters on the project in Álex de la Iglesia (“30 Coins”), Jaume Balagueró (“[Rec]”), Mateo Gil (“Open Your Eyes”), Enrique Urbizu (“The Ninth Gate”) and, back for this new series reboot, Paco Plaza.

That’s how Film Scout was born, the app that lets a mix of public and industry users on the ground at events like Sundance rate titles they’ve screened. In turn, its fan-owned parent company Legion M uses the insights to invest in acquisition titles and partner with filmmakers on future projects.

He’s had great success in genre films such as “The Guest” and “Colossal” and even lent his musical talents to Disney‘s live-action “Beauty and the Beast” as The Beast.

That would be Dan Stevens, whose career up until now has been dominated by television work on “Downton Abbey” and “Legion.” Stevens’ “Eurovision” role as Russian pop star Alexander Lemtov has earned him viral social media praise and critical acclaim (Collider named him the hero of the summer movie season), but anyone finally realizing Stevens has what it takes to make the crossover from television favorite to major move star is about six years too late.

Monster movies have endured in part because they provide a template for tapping into the anxieties of the moment. “Godzilla: King of the Monsters” may not have mustered profound social commentary, but giant hideous beasts wreaking havoc on civilization tap into deep-seated existential dread on autopilot. “Kong: Skull Island” took the mounting ineptitude of American military to task. And the latest version of “The Invisible Man” would have been jarring if it didn’t work in some kind of #MeToo component.
